Recent Review: Everything turned out to be fabulous and the work was really, really good. They did the heat pump installation and another company dug the trenches. It was a pretty huge project. They were professional, on-time and came when they said they would come. They got the stuff in when they said they would get it in and it has been working really very well. The support after the job has been good. I am really, really happy with them. They gave me top of the line unit.

The short story is that I would not recommend Marshall Mechanical to anyone. Period.  The long story:  The crew that installed our geothermal system was good and completed the bulk of the work on time.  However, they lacked attention to detail.   1)They left a drain line too short and it ended up pooling water under my house.   2)They also knocked over floor supports that were in place to keep the floor from sagging and failed to replace them.  As you can imagine, the floor then sagged. 3)They had to wait until we had our bathroom wainscot retiled to install a vent.  When they came back to install the vent they broke the new tile work.  They said they would pay for it and and reinstall it when the tile was repaired.  They did neither. 4)We were supposed to get new vents in the house with the new system.  We never did, they re-used the old ones. Worst of all, we paid Marshal Mechanical in full and on time, but their drilling contractor contacted us and claimed that he was never paid for his work so he put a lien on our house.  Initially Sean Cantrell the owner sent a note about this.  It took a while for him to respond to e-mail and calls from me, but he finally did.  We discussed the problem over the phone and he said he was having an attorney look into the issue and that it was only a dispute over work at another job.  Unfortunately Sean gave me misleading and inaccurate information about the liability for the payment.  He implied that the problem might be with a subcontractor, but I found out that the subcontractor used was a wholly owned subsidiary of Marshall Mechanical.   His attorney, in an email I was copied on  laid out how Sean could rectify the situation and ?Salvage the customer relationship? but Sean Cantrell failed to take the simple steps suggested and then never returned any more phone calls and e-mails, leaving us with the cost and frustration of rectifying the situation.  If you have ever had the frustration of having to deal with an erroneous lien on your property it is not fun. We like the geothermal system we got, but I would strongly recommend anyone to stay away from Marshal Mechanical

quality worMy 24yr, old geothermal heat pump stopped working morning of 2-8-13.  Compressor would kick the panel breaker when it tried to turn on to heat.  Could reset breaker & run the fan only to circulate my gas fireplace heat.  I began calling around 11:00am, contacted (2) other "A" rated on Angie's, one could not arrive before late evening & the other G*****n left me on hold for 10min. so I hung up & called Howell's.  Said they could have a Tech here around 4:00pm, scheduled the appointment & the Tech (Adam) arrived early around 3:30pm +++. The dispatcher (Angela) had warned me it could take a couple of days to get a new compressor if it was bad as there are too many models/options to keep everything in stock.  Adam quickly diagnosed it was a burnt compressor wire at it's connection.  Adam said the connection could have loosened over the years (piston compressor replace with scroll type in 1995), but he was not satisfied "that" was the only problem to prevent a near future service call.  He was VERY thorough in checking my other system components & readings.  Found my capacitor was 35amp. & should be 60-65amp. for the installed scroll compressor.  Also, the gauges installed on my heat pump system were reading not as preferred.  Re-calibrated gauges to match his. Fair prices & quality work!  Don't hesitate to give Howell's a call.

They were very open and very honest. They were easy to deal with and they pretty much did what they said they were going to do. There were not any hidden fees or any unexpected things. We think they are the best in the area. They are reliable, honest, hard-working and trustworthy. They were friendly and willing to work with us.

They're very pleasant , all nice folks . Tell ya just what you want to hear . I hired Green Air Inc. to install geothermal in my house , remove the existing a/c system and oil furnace (they had trouble lifting the old furnace into their van so I helped)  . The estimate didn't include the electrical update (but they had the electrician look at my house during the appraisal) . They subbed out the electrical , the drilling and insulation . Job done a month behind schedule at $40.000 . In the attic there were gaps in the duct work I could put my finger through ? they came back to fix them - I can only hope there aren't more that I'm unable to find . Initially the system cut off on a regular basis . Woke up very very cold a few mornings ! I figured out how to purge the system - that helped  . Upon telling them , they decided to tell me that the system will need purging when its new (wish I knew that before ). A personal item of my sons (a compound bow) was damaged (dry fired) by one of their workers during the install . Nobody would admit doing it , but they offered to repair it . Six months later they returned the item to me and it was obviously non-functional ? they said I should take it back to the place where they had the repairs done ? no thanks , if it took 6 months to NOT fix it , why would I go back ? I'll cover that repair on my own now . Our 6 month check up and the cooling system isn't cooling the house evenly . The downstairs won't cut off - even when the temp is below the thermostat setting . The  check up turns into a repair ? no a/c for 3 days ?and the temperature is 100 outside ! The repair man said it would be here in 2 days and that he'd install it even if he had to be here at midnight (that's real nice of him). We had to call to inquire on that second day - "Will we have a/c today?"? you think maybe they'd call us , out of concern , at least to show an effort . "The parts still not here but I'll be there first thing in the morning ." ?well that sounds like the part IS there and you just don't want to work a long day . The next morning we call and they tell us the part came in yesterday ! ? half an hour later they call back "Sorry for the confusion , that wasn't YOUR part that came in before , but oh , it's here now" . 3 days without a/c and this system costs $40,000 ! I asked why didn't they overnight the part ? ? "It was a warranty thing" . The part goes in an the system works now , but it's still constantly blasting cold air downstairs . I don't want to call them . I'll be contacting the system manufacturer to see who else maintains this unit . I've only ever talked to the sales guy and the workers .  I'd love to have a word with the owner , but I don't think I could maintain my cool . After spending $40,000 for this kind of treatment I'm baffled that these guys are still in business . I wish I could write a better review , they really do seem like nice folks . UPDATE: Over a year after the install and the owner calls me out of the blue after reading my review here . He says all the right things and gives me a one year premium maintenance package . The Geothermal system is running great now and I'm looking forward to a lifetime of low cost efficient heating and a/c . I'm bumping my review up to a "C"

The boiler repair job was done timely and well with several helpful features added in the course of the repair. The geothermal job was awarded after a total of six bids were evaluated. This contractor was neither the lowest nor the highest bidder, but the one that had the most expertise. Several suggestions were offered during the bid process which upon further evaluation (the internet has a wealth of information to use to double-check and inform) proved to be advantageous. In addition, this was the only firm that stated they would perform duct efficiency as well as structure infiltration tests as a part of the job. This step yields objective data to aid in sizing the system. A followup duct test is done at the end to assure that duct work meets or more preferably exceeds industry standards. In these regards and others, this firm closely follows procedures which are recommended in published "advice" articles. On the day scheduled for "tear-out" more men than we might have expected arrived on time and were introduced by name. They all turned out to be friendly people who otherwise would be welcome to come around. Where needed, protective coverings were put down--they were always very fussy about having things covered even when advised that in a particular location it wasn't necessary. The tear-out was promptly accomplished and the mess well cleared during which there was a friendly team work that was a pleasure to see. The installation began shortly after with only certain of the men we had met before since this work was more specific. It took about three days and the same work attitudes continued. The system was started at the end and worked quite well even without final tuning. This turned out to be important because before they could return to put the final touches in place, we had a hurricane which caused a large tree to fall on the house. There was significant damage but we were able to remain in the house while repairs were accomplished. However, some of the work on the new system had to be undone so other repair work could proceed. Goodman has been very cooperative and helpful during the whole process such that the system has never been a problem and we have been comfortable throughout. In addition, we have gotten to know some of the service personnel and most of the office staff better than might otherwise be the case. We have found them to be very customer oriented, friendly, and interested in doing a first rate job. We recommend this firm without reservation.

I did not use them last because I am not very happy with them. When I first started using them, they were very good, but they have gone down. We also bought a hot water heater from them and they did a fantastic job, it is just in the last year or two that their service has gone down. The cost was reasonable. They have not been as responsive as I would like them to be, because I have spent a lot of money with them.
