Recent Review: Kohmar Air Duct Cleaning is an excellent company form my first point of contact, Cheryl to the owner, Jason. Cheryl worked with me to find a mutual date and time to complete the work under an offer made thru Angie's List. Jason the owner and Jerell the technician were on time and very professional and thorough in cleaning and encapsulating my HVAC duct work.
Recent Review: Ryan Cubin arrived at the appointed time accompanied by another gentleman who was assisting with the work. Both men were professional, down to earth and very clear in explaining what they were going to do. They began by INSPECTING DUCTS AND VENTS IN ALL ROOMS. They then connected their equipment (First the upstairs and then the first floor of the home...this also included the FROG (family room above the garage) as well as the dryer vent in the laundry room.) While the hose was pulling out all debris and dirt from the ducts, the individual vents were cleaned out and the vent covers were cleaned by hand to ensure that nothing remained on them. Since we have a separate heating and cooling system on each level I was delighted at the thoroughness of their work. They also inspected the crawl space underneath the house since there are ducts underneath the home as well. However, they stated that they were only hired to do the house. They inspected the crawl space because they suspected that, based on what they found on the two house levels, the ducts underneath the house were in all probability in very poor shape. When I asked what they found they informed me that they were going to include that information in their report to the property manager. This would include a description of broken ducts, uninsulated ducts, etc. Almost three hours were spent working at this house. All windows were re -locked and they had even vacumed up after themselves. I have waited 4 days before writing this report because I wanted to see what effect this work has had on the air quality. I am happy to report that only today I found a light bit of dust on table tops....amazing since before I would find dust several hours after dusting. I also find that breathing does no longer seem stuffy in a closed room. These were perhaps the VERY BEST AIR DUCT and VENTILATION SPECIALISTS IN THE VIRGINIA BEACH AREA and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM!

Recent Review: We had detected a musty odor from our A/C, so time to get the ductwork cleaned! I called around, and these guys were the only guys that could come out within a few days. Everyone else was so busy that I would have waited weeks. We have a 5 month old, and I was concerned about mold so I really wanted this done ASAP. They showed up early, were very professional and took time to explain the process and what I should expect. We've only just moved into this house so we had boxes and mess everywhere and they were very courteous and worked around the mess - even apologizing to us! They were even friendly and understanding about our new baby and dog (which is a handful, juggling an excited dog and screaming baby!). They also did a fantastic job cleaning up their mess, and left no sign they'd ever been here (except of course, for some nice and clean air ducts!). Overall, I'm really happy with the quality of the work, the price, the speed and the cheerful manner in which they did the work. Highly recommend these guys and I would not hesitate to use them again.

Recent Review: My wife has terrible allergies, and even though we bought a whole house air cleaner system the ductwork was filthy. I called Airight and Dana was super helpful and professional explaining the process to me. He quoted me a price I thought was fair and scheduled. They arrived right on time and did a walkthrough explaining the process. All three workers introduced themselves by name and were very friendly and helpful. The whole experience was outstanding.
The small house I've owned over 22 years was already outdated when I bought it. The old heating system continued to work over the years but also continued to age. Upon my retirement the decision had to be made to bring the house into the 21st century. This wasn't easy or came without dread. I imagined a mountain of complicated invasive reconstruction to have a new HVAC system installed. Worse than that, the daunting search for a trustworthy professional. Mr. Ron Stillman was recommended to me by a friend. He listened to all my wants and concerns during the initial interview. He spent time making recommendations, took notes and outlined the entire work procedure. Shortly afterwards I received the work proposal with a fair price. Prep work for the HVAC unit included an electric upgrade, installing new ductwork working many hours in a hot stuffy attic, reconnect all electrical wiring. Mr. Ron Stillman went above and beyond to cap off some plumbing the old system left for installation of the new water-related utilities. From start to finish, the Stillman crew worked tirelessly, always polite and friendly and always took the time to answer questions or make changes suggested by me. Each worked at their professional specialty and together coordinated into a team, the result of having excellent work ethics, training and management. The work was done in a neat, clean orderly manner. Mr. Ron Stillman was either on site or available by phone. The entire job was completed in 4 days. The end result for my house and my continued life in it is having peace of mind, priceless. Unfortunately, a rating only goes as high as five stars. I rate STILLMAN ELECTRIC CORP the five plus five more, five hearts and a bushel of gratitude. Special THANK YOU to the crew, particularly Bryan and Adam. And Travis, who was dispatched to run lines in the scary crawlspace.

Very satisfied with the company and its technicians. The owner was very patient with me as I had many questions and took some time to make up my mind if I wanted to make this investment.

This project began when our 20 year old heat pump upstairs was not cooling, even after a tune up. It ran continually and it would stil be 80-82 degrees when we went to bed, and would rarely get below 76. We got 2 companies from Angies List (Hawkins, Air Cond. Spec.) and 2 recommendations from friends (Smith&Keene, Sun) to come out and bid the upstairs system. We do not plan on being in the house for more than 5-7 years more, so we went with a 13-14.5 SEER range for bids, whatever the sales rep said was the best fit. ACS recommended a Trane 2 ton 13 SEER pump with a Hyperion XL variable speed air handler, which they say ups the SEER to 14. I wanted to get the NEST thermostat, which they didn't offer, but they did offer the latest honeywell that comes with a WIFI connection. We love the system - it cools the upstairs completely, keeping it at 70 in the evening and 74 during the day. Its very quiet, both the outdoor unit and the air handler and air coming through the vents. The thermostat was the easiest I've ever programmed (literally took 1 minute) and can be controlloed from my iphone. Cost for this part - 5884 We had also been having issues with moisture coming off the old ductwork in the crawlspace because all of the insulation had come off over 30 years. It was a mess. ACS replaced the entire duct system for a 2100 SF area for $3397 in 2 days. Very clean, very quick, air flow seems to have improved. I will have definitely ACS back to replace my doenstairs unit next year. We are very satisfied. June 2014 - As an update, the heat pump stopped cooling recently. The tech came out at 10PM, and very quickly identified the problem and did a temporary fix. They came alst night and replaced the malfuntioning part, all at no cost. The repionse was very prompt and professional. I highly recommend them.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was good. It went well. There were no additional charges. The price was well worth it. They spent quite a bit of time on the job and it didn't cost that much so it seemed like a good deal.

I called this company to come out and give me a free estimate. Upon arrival the gentleman came in and started looking over my A/C ductwork then he started giving me verbal prices. I asked the gentleman to please write down the prices. Upon doing this he accused me of not really wanting the service done. I informed him that this was a bid type situation and all I wanted was the prices to have this work done. I do not have any work done on any of my properties unless I have a quote in hand. This way I know what I am to expect out of the contractor and what amount did contractor expect for me at the end of the service. So long story short the gentleman and the company wasted my time would not give me a written quote for the work to be done so I will not have this company do any work for me. Be advised stay away from any company that will not give you a written quote!

Installed replacement ductwork under the house. The team was professional and materials were high quality. Did only the work originally described and did not mention a couple of problems that were not corrected by the work. I would have appreciated them bringing it to my attention and offering a solution even at additional cost. I ended up fixing them myself with excess materials.

AHometown Heating and Cooling
We have worked with Hometown in the past, as they are responsive, honest, and punctual. We noticed a slow leak in our first floor ceiling, and initially called a plumber. After inspecting (and making a hole) in our ceiling, the plumber concluded that there were no pipes in the vicinity of the leak, and this was not a plumbing issue. I made a call to David with Hometown, and he was able to look at it within 2 hours. Apparently, the ductwork was and quot;sweatingand quot;, causing this gradual leak and subsequent ceiling damage. We agreed for him to return with supplies to fix the problem. He was punctual, cleaned up after himself, and gave some good tips on prevention and maintenance. We will not hesitate to call him again, we just hope we don't have to. :) Now on to ceiling repair...

AHawkins Heating & Air Conditioning
We are extremely happy that we chose Hawkins Heating and Air to install our Geothermal systems. We are also extremely happy that we chose Geothermal over air-to-air heat pumps. After living with the new systems for a winter, I can tell you that our house is far more comfortable and there is a huge difference in our electric bills. My wife used to be cold all winter, not this year. I chose Hawkins Heating and Air because of Eric Hawkins. He is fantastic. I got multiple estimates before this job and his price was competative. His estimate wasn't the cheapest, but that wasn't my greatest concern. I wanted to get the job done right the first time and he showed the most interest in addressing my needs and concerns. I was very focused on getting the new duct system designed and installed properly. Of the several estimates, he was the only one that showed a great deal of interest in sealing the ducts well and gladly accepted having an independent duct test to verify that the systems had been well sealed and met EnergyStar requirements. The independent test (I hired the tester) showed that Eric's team exceeded EnergyStar requirements. On the upstairs system, his team got the leakage down to 4%, the goal was 6% to meet EnergyStar. Very impressive. He also brought in a technician from his supplier to evaluate the system after the installation. This was essentially an independent verification that the systems were up an operating properly. He did this all on his own, I didn't request it. His attention to detail gave me great piece of mind. The pump and well team that he works with is fantastic. They matched a very competitive estimate from another company and they also showed great attention to detail when installing the pumps and equipment in my garage. Redesigning the duct system was challenging. There was not much room in the crawlspace. They had to add registers, two returns and increase the size of two other returns. Eric was on-site every day and was very focused on getting it right with each new challenge. I had two goals with this upgrade; 1. have a more comfortable house, 2. save energy. We met the first goal easily. We were comfortable all winter. The energy savings exceeded my expectations. Here is the comparison for this winter and the last. Old New Jan $279.38 $201.42 Feb $354.02 $199.40 Mar $326.37 $188.05 Apr $316.23 $208.98 May $254.57 $185.58 As a side note, I had considered installing a humidifier when we upgraded the systems. I decided to wait for one winter to see if we really needed it in this climate. The air was a little dry so I intend to have one installed soon. One final note on quality service - One of our old heat pumps failed beyond repair which caused me to have to start this upgrade earlier than planned. Eric had three portable a/c units delivered immediately so that we could be somewhat comfortable during the August heat while we waited for the new system to get up and running. We are very happy that we chose Hawking Heating and Air to install our geothermal systems.

ASmith And Keene Electric Heat/Cool & Plumbing
I manage my son's property in his absence, and hired Dan Baxter to work on his house because I had such a good experience with AACAD on mine. I wanted to see why there was a 10+ degree difference between the upstairs & downstairs rooms. He found several "repair jobs" that had been done on the ductwork in the attic by previous owners. Under several layers of various kinds of tape, the baffles had been shut off, & there were large holes in the ducts. There were several major air leaks in the furnace/AC unit itself & the emergency switch had been taped down in the "off" position. After having the repairs done & ducts cleaned, the occupants can feel a huge difference in the indoor climate, & energy bills are lower. The staff are very efficient & professional, & I was very pleased with all aspects of their work.
