Recent Review: We own a beautiful home in Forest Lakes.  It's been loved and lived in and needed some care.  We found Tom on Angie's List and as soon as we spoke on the phone, knew we had found our man.  We found Tom to be responsive, professional, and honest. The type of handyman of days gone by - amazing.  We got lucky.   Tom's work is gorgeous!    The house looks great!  The stove has been given a facelift.   The paint job  is fabulous!! - and was a HUGE job!  We are thrilled.  Attention to detail, neat, never a mess, responsible and trustworthy.   We will be calling Tom whenever we need help.  It's such a relief to find an honest and talented person who does not overcharge and over promise.   Thank you, Tom!! And thank you, Angie's List!!!

Recent Review: Never installed back splash. Marred hardwood floors while bringing in new refrigerator. He said he would take care of it, but it has been close to a year and nothing has been done. He will look you right in the eye and tell he will call you tomorrow. Please don't hold your breath. The only time you will talk to him is if you do the calling. He will tell you anything to get rid of you at the time. All in all it has been a very stressful experience to say the least. You never know what is going on in another persons mind, but he seems that he finds great pleasure in seeing how far he can go before you break. If he treats every customer like he has us. I don't see how he stays in business.

Recent Review: Mr. Duke was friendly, professional, and responded to the priorities of my job quickly.  The people he had working with him were great, helpful, and jobs were neatly and correctly done.  He went out of his way to get my stove set up with minimum disruption to our family, and his people worked efficiently and with professionalism.  While my total job will exceed in time what I paid for, I do not mind paying extra to get work done by Mr. Duke and his professional team.  I have a couple of larger, future jobs that I will be interested in asking him about as well.  I do not take competence and integrity lightly, and appreciate it when I see it.

Recent Review: Will definitely use this contractor in the future.  Not once did they fail to return my call, or to show up when they said they would show up.  The workers were polite and respectful and got the job done in an extremely professional manner.  They were careful to clean up after they were finished and I could not have asked for a more professional crew.  Kudos to Jim (owner) and Laura who came out to the house to offer their expertise.  What we chose for our kitchen was a bold move, but it worked! I cannot thank them enough for a job well done.  Their pricing was reasonable and below what was anticipated.  Thanks again and can't wait to get them back in here for a bathroom remodel!

Recent Review: Jerry lives across the street from our house, so he readily worked with us the whole way through the project to minimize the time we wouldn't have a functioning kitchen. He also worked well with the subcontractors we used. LOTS of drywall work, and he did a good job of limiting the impact of dust on the rest of the house. The kitchen was completely gutted, the coat closet back and side wall was removed (a tricky part of the whole project), transforming the hall coat closet to the place where the refrigerator would be in the new configuration. The doorway from the kitchen to the office/computer room was drywalled over, as was the hall doorway to the now-defunct coat closet. Then the kitchen was re-built with new appliances, new countertops, new flooring, and lots of new electrical outlets. Jerry took down the 48" fluorescent lights and replaced them with recessed lighting. The stove and overhanging microwave oven were switched from one wall to another. The end result is a kitchen with a much more efficient arrangement of appliances and more cabinet space / countertop work area. Since we lost the coat closet to the kitchen re-design, Jerry took the computer/room office wall adjoining the kitchen and built us two side-by-side closets, the one closest to the front door/hallway is our new coat closet, and the one farther away is our new office area. With the new coat closet and office area that can be closed off with bi-fold doors, the former office/computer room is now our lovely library / reading room. Jerry replaced the vanity in the powder room nestled up under the stairs with a pedestal sink and new low-flo commode. He finished off the powder room by hanging a wallpaper that gives the look of painted-over wood paneling. Very elegant. Jerry finished up by putting down 2+ coats of paint on everything. Jerry and his helpers (when he needed them) were professional, polite, and very accommodating, cleaning up after themselves every evening. Their services were very reasonably priced. I would gladly use them again in the future... and very likely will, as we have more project in the wings waiting to get started..

Tom did a fantastic job.  He built and installed a bookcase/shelf in a cubby in our family room. He designed the unit and suggested trim and color. He built it on-site. His suggestions were great and the unit looks fantastic.  He is very detailed oriented. His assistant painted the two bedrooms. The bedrooms already had furniture. I was worried about getting paint on the furniture or rug but there is not a speck of paint anywhere but on the walls! It is a great job. Tom knows exactly what to do and he knows what he is doing. He is very competent. We are very, very pleased with his work.

I called for a quote, got Wayne on the phone, and was able to schedule the quote for the next day.  The work was scheduled according to our convenience.  My dad had already done the cabinet modification for the dishwasher so once the plumbing and electrical work was done Wayne hooked everything up and installed the dishwasher.  (I'm sure that Wayne would have done the cabinet modification, but we were trying to save money and he was fine with just doing exactly what we needed him to).  They were very prompt, courteous, and thorough.  We did have a slight problem with the water lines leaking after the work, but Wayne came back twice to work on it until it was fixed (it turned out that one of the pieces was cracked).  He was very concerned to make sure that we were happy and satisfied with the work.  Overall we were thrilled with their work and would recommend them to anyone.  I also plan to use them again in the future for other projects around the house, such as other electrical lines and when we encounter things in our VERY low-budget kitchen renovation that we cannot do ourselves.

Overall it went very well. Once I let Jim know that I wanted suggestions, he gave excellent guidance and opinions on everything from the counter vs island patterns to the perfect handles on the cabinets. I wouldn't have thought to use the pattern on the island that he suggested, but am eternally grateful that he assisted in choosing the complementary counter designs. Charlie is absolutely the best, most talented craftsman. A pleasure to work with, too. He finished off the opening for the microwave in a way I never would have imagined. It looks wonderful. We did have a problem with the island cutout for the range being too large. It was fixed to our satisfaction, but initially the communication wasn't stellar on how it would be resolved. Bottom line, however, is that when I pushed, they more than came through, and I would use them again. The kitchen looks incredible. Cannot tell it's not real wood. Charlie is a perfectionist, so we had to wait for new drawer fronts to be made because he wasn't happy with how the first set came out. And he was absolutely right. They show up on time - from Jim when he came for the estimate, to the workers when they executed the plan. They didn't leave until I was satisfied. They cleaned up really, really well, every day they were here. They were great with our dogs and cats. One tip that worked really well for us and them: After they left the first day, I went did a detailed inspection, and left little post it notes wherever I found a place that needed to be addressed. Seams that needed finishing, uneven edging, places with small chips. The next morning they thanked me for the multitude of post its! I was afraid I might get static. But no! One of the guys took photos of each one, sent it to the boss, then as they fixed each item, they took the post it down. At the end of that day, most of the post its were down, and the items they didn't get to were fixed over the next day or so. Post its stayed up til each was addressed. I would recommend them, I'd use them again. The price was reasonable for the amount of work done. I trust them all. The kitchen looks really great. What else can you ask for? A note on the photos: my husband did the backsplash and the flooring after Kitchen Doctors were done, and these pics don't have the finished backsplash, and most have the old messed up flooring. Focus on the counter, the island, the cabinets. Those are all the work of Kitchen Doctors.

I called them because i needed two appliances removed and two new ones installed, a dishwasher and microwave.  We had a $100 coupon and rather than use Sears who was charging $300, we thought we would use the $100 coupon and assumed the job would be about $200.  The plumber arrives in a starched white shirt and puts on hospital booties so not to dirty the floors, so good first impression.  He looks at the job, then writes for the next 10 minutes then explains that he is giving us 3 options.  1. remove both appliances and hook up the new ones (he said he would need both my husbands and my help with holding up the microwave) for $1,285.  I thought it was a joke, and asked if that included the new appliances.  It was not a joke. He was dead serious.  Wanted to charge over $400 just to remove the two old appliances.  I asked him if it was a 3 day job, and he said no, about 3 hours.  I said I never heard of a plumber charging $428 an hour, even in NY where I am from.  I didn't give him a top grade for punctuality or responsiveness either because I had booked the appt Friday for Monday afternoon, and they called Monday afternoon and said they couldn't make it, they were backed up, which wasn't a big deal for me but had I taken a day off work it would have also been upsetting.  I would NEVER recommend or go near these people, seriously it was a scary experience which we will be telling for many years to come!  PS We promptly called Sears and they are coming to do the same job for $300, and to think the Sears appliance salesperson thought we could get it done more cheaply by calling someone directly.

We found Tom be a honest and reliable contractor right through the project proposal to the project completion stage. He was very detailed with his proposal breaking the project into labor and material costs and sticking with them through the project unlike some other contractors who offer a low ball estimate and then charge a lot more along the way . We also found him to be knowledgeable, providing suggestions and willing to adapt as we made changes along the project. He also worked with the sub-contractors to make sure that the granite and sink work was perfect. He was also willing to come with to stores to pick for materials - hardware, paint, appliance etc. Another important aspect was that he really manages the project time very well and when we had a problem with the granite delivery schedule, he quickly used that time to get the bathroom work on the way. That way we never lost time and pace on the project. Overall we are really satisfied with the work as we were able to make major changes to our kitchen and master bathroom in 3 weeks. Both those areas looks great and we believe we have managed to raise the value of our home by about $20-25K for a resale 2-3 years down the line.
