Business Description: Our core business is kitchen and bath remodeling and all the things that go along with that. We do much more than just cabinets. In addition to fabricating our own cabinets, we do floors, counters, tile, painting, plumbing, electrical etc. We take on the whole project and take the worry away from the customer. We work with customers on design and try to achieve their vision at a cost they can afford. We also do closets, shelving, media centers and any other project that relates to interior remodeling. Do you want to remove a load bearing wall to increase the size of your kitchen? No problem. Do you need a room addition? No problem. Do you just want your existing cabinets refaced or painted? No problem. If a permit is required for you project, we are licensed (VA Contractor's #2705114948). Since every project is unique, I will work up a quote after meeting with you and going over your requirements and the scope of work. On small jobs, I generally require a deposit and bill the balance on completion. On larger jobs, I will set up a payment schedule. I will accept checks, cash or PayPal (you pay fee).

It's going great!  Our room addition is all closed in and about ready for the inside work.  Jim listened to me from the "get go" about what my vision for the room was and made great suggestions.  He and Justin have kept us informed about each step of the process.  Everyone who has or is working here have been very professional and courteous.

AStafford & Son Builders
Tom Stafford Jr. was very attentive from the first meeting and listened to our ideas and goals. Tom's estimate was the most realistic and the most detailed of the three we got. Tom and his team were always on time, respectful and curtious. This was a major project that lasted several months and Tom always informed us of where we were in the time-line and what to expect. We both work and Tom made sure he was on site anytime there was inside work being done. We made some alterations during the project and Tom was able to work with us to make them all happen. Every individual project was completed on-time and within budget. Tom made follow-up visits and calls well after the project completion ensuring we were satisfied. Stafford and Son hires the best craftsment and uses top of the line materials. Hats off to Stafford and Son on an outstanding job.

AMSH Homes Inc
MSH company owner (STEVE) called, visited, quoted a competitive price, competitive timing, a minimal sub-contractor verbal guarantee and invited us to two of his spec homes to help us envision the quality of this work.  We signed with MSH soon after and work began on the date promised.  We are no nonsense people and were looking for a down to earth and practical builder that we could trust in our home and who could appreciate what we were looking for - quality, honesty and timing.  Demo happened in less than a day and the rest of the work was honestly a blur - it happened so well and so quickly.  The job was finished within the 3 weeks quoted (cumulatively only 13 days) - granted cabinets came in a week early.  But what impressed me most about MSH was their responsiveness, timeliness, diligence and friendly demeanor.  To boot, they received quality critique from me without objection, fixing anything (no matter how small) and ensuring my satisfaction.  I will absolutely hire them again for our Master Bathroom and Recreational Room Addition soon!

AThe Remodeling Company
We give REMODELCO generally high marks. Under different circumstances, we might well pursue the project and we would certainly invite a bid for other work they do (roofing, windows, etc). Pros: 1. Structure of design contract--insist on this. It protects you and is fair to both parties. 2. We made lots of detailed material choices rather than using allowances to nail the pricing down. We took our time doing this and REMODELCO was very patient with us. 3. Employees were professional and courteous throughout. Mixed Bag: 1. Subcontractors. Liked some, others not so much. One supplier was difficult to deal with, so we opted not to give them our business. 2. The design is done by a house designer vice architect. Nothing wrong with that, although REMODELCO could be more up front about the credentials of the designer. I repeatedly referred to him as the architect and was never corrected; learned of the alternative qualifications when I got the plans with the stamp. 3. Read the construction contract carefully. It certainly protects REMODELCO. Since we decided not to complete the project, we didn't pursue negotiating any aspects of it, so don't know if there is flexibility there. Cons: 1. We were not able to bring the project in at the original budget quoted during the free estimate. Growth was about 20%. We might be responsible for some of that due to choices, yet if that's the case the original estimate must have been based upon very inexpensive materials... 2. There is not good pricing transparency. You get a bottom line number. We rescoped twice and so had three bottom lines. It would have been MUCH more helpful to know the cost differences for each choice (e.g. wood windows vice aluminum clad windows cost $xxx, etc).

We had a complete gut job and remodel on our master bathroom. From the appt. for the estimate with Mark to the completion of the job Mark and his crew were awesome! This was the best experience we have ever had with a contractor. They were always on time and communication was exceptional. The crew we worked with were so easy to work with, they listened to what we wanted and helped us make good choices with their professional knowledge. They did great work and were so professional while doing it. Our completion date was off a few days to a mistake with our vanity order through a local big box store. So I would suggest making sure you have what you need on site so you don't slow the guys down. Though Mark and his crew were very understanding I felt bad in delaying them as they were right on task with the date Mark set for us. I truly wish we had found them years ago when we began our home remodel room by room. We had Val and Paul do most of our work and they were a pleasure to have in the house. They came and went in a respectful manner and kept me up on the work being done day to day. Mark called and came by to check on the progress and was not the typical invisible contractor, he really kept up on things and made sure we were happy. We cannot say enough good things about this business. We would definitely use them again for any job and have faith that it would be a great job. They will not leave until you are happy and satisfied with the finished product. Thanks guys!

We've worked with Gary in the past and have been happy, but the last couple of projects we have issues in timeliness, quality and transparency. We were very disappointed this time. Timeline went from 2 months to a finish time of almost 5 months, despite a significant decrease in the scope of the work due to city permitting (no fault of his). Coordination with subs was poor at best. Final straw as that the scope change should have had a significant impact on the final price. Initially, we were to add a 120 sq ft room addition. Included framing, brickwork, roofing, etc. His fuzzy and unclear math and unwillingness to be transparent on the final bill for SOME of the subs (others he was more than happy to share amounts) was very confusing. We should have demanded a new written contract when the scope of the work changed, and as required in his contract. We worked with him before and trusted him, but ultimately should have been more forceful and not let the work continue until a new price had been determined. He initially was going to start demolition on a brick wall while waiting for the permit. I asked them not, to, and that turned out to be a good decision, as I would have paid to demolish it, then rebuild it for nothing. Doing changes in writing is in his contract, but he failed to do that as well. Several small shortcuts he took, which I'm not happy with, and may have to go back and change. Very disappointed in the direction his quality, transparency, and communication has gone. All in all a very sad and disappointing experience. We won't be using him again. If you do, ALL changes in writing, NO WORK until all permits are pulled, and consider penalties be part of your contract for significant increases to the timeline.

FCase Handyman & Remodeling
It was one of the worst experiences I've ever had.  My wife and I were looking for "a turnkey" operation to build a downstairs bedroom/living space and to upgrade/remodel other portions of our home.  We wanted a firm that would work with us through design to completion.  We understood that we would pay more for this service but wanted someone to oversee the entire effort.  We selected Case Remodeling based on advertising and some references. Case convinced us that they had adequate "in house" resources and used few if/any subcontractors.  My wife communicated with the designer and described what we wanted.   We clearly articulated that we wanted good craftsmanship and quality products.  It started out well. Based on the initial work, I made what proved to be a bad decision.  I negotiated costs and decided to pre-pay a large portion of the work based on discounts.  It quickly went "downhill" from there.  Soon some of the better craftsmen were replaced by less qualified personnel; shoddy materials were selected for the work; there were delays toward completing scheduled work.  I met frequently with the owner and senior managers expressing our dissatisfaction with their work.  Promises were met but few kept.  There were a number of problems with subcontractors who told us privately that they were not been paid.  Several stopped work until payments were sorted out.  My complaints were not addressed; I appealed telephonically and in writing to Case Headquarters expressing my disgust; they essentially did nothing to rectify the situation.  We had lots of work that had to be redone.  I paid for an independent review of the work that I documented and provided to Case but they quibbled over the smallest items and only corrected a few things.  In the end, we just decided to "cut our losses" and cease working with them.  My wife had health issues and it was really troubling her.  I have had to redo much of what they did.  The bedroom addition was poorly engineered and I had to hire a new HVAC contractor to add ducts and other features to improved circulation.  My patio has been redone several times as the proper subflooring was not done.  I paid independently to have the hardwood floors redone.  I still have problems with the plumbing due to design features.  Just last week we learned that electrical outlets were improperly installed with resultant electrical issues.  Some cabinets that were supposed to be hardwood turned out to be press board.  It turned out that the owner of Case Remodeling also had a separate painting company.  That was not clear when we started the engagement but added confusion later. firmsFor a long time, I wrestled with how to deal with this horrible engagement.  Repeated calls to local management and the franchise owner proved fruitless.  I consulted with attorneys, contemplated legal action but just decided to move on to spare my wife the agony and delays associated with seeking redress.  We also wanted to enjoy our home.  I thought about publicizing my story to warn others about my experience.  I even purchased (and still own) the web URL:  www.nocase.com. as a place to tell my story.  In the end, I strongly feel that businesses like Case Remodeling should not be in business.  I am the founder and CEO of a company and pride myself on doing reputable work.  So should others.  Lessons learned: --- Do a more thorough job of vetting contractors:  check with agencies, customers, etc. --- Do not prepay for work. --- Hand select/review all materials. --- Demand to see drawings, schematics, etc. --- Evaluate each segment of work.
