Recent Review: Ryan Sullivan and his team were amazing. We had them remodel our kitchen 2 years ago. When we needed our master bath remodeled this year we knew we wanted them to do the work for us. We are thrilled with the results on both jobs. Ryan is very knowledgable and was able to give us ideas that improved the plans we already had. I would highly recommend them and will not hesitate to use them for future projects.

Recent Review: I had been considering remodeling my kitchen for some time and a friend suggested that I contact Boss Design. I was unsure as to what I wanted, but Sean and Talha guided me through the whole process with a lot of ideas that I would have never thought of. The complete renovations included a total new design, tile floors, appliances, island, lighting, message center and more. The timeline was met almost to the day. The efficiency and courtesy of those transforming the space was exemplary. Since then Boss Design remodeled my three bathrooms with custom cabinets and granite countertops. I am extremely impressed with this company and would highly recommend them.

Recent Review: MJL did a great job remodeling our Kitchen with new cabinets, granite counter-tops, and sink/faucet. I bought the appliances separately and MJL installed them as well. Price was very reasonable and the quality was top notch. Mike delivered as promised, completing the job before an influx of relatives arrived for our daughter's wedding. We are very pleased with the workmanship and attention to detail. It is rare that you don't find something left incomplete or just not quite right with a remodeling job...but that's exactly what happen with MJL; we are very satisfied! Thanks Mike!

Recent Review: Bowa renovated two bathrooms in our house. They are fantastic! They were on time, and on budget. At the end of the day, they spent at least 45 minutes cleaning up. If there was a nick in the wall they painted it. The house looks better than before they started! I can't say enough good things about them, and I will absolutely use them again.

Recent Review: Could not have had anyone do a better job. Mr. West worked to make the 4 week job go as smooth as possible. He stayed in close communication with me at every step. Always kept me up to date as to who would be coming to my home each day. He paid a great amount of time and attention to every detail. I will absolutely recommend West and Son to anyone who needs to make home improvements. He will always be the first person that I will call for any future work.

DNew American Kitchen & Bath
Absolute nightmare experience with AKB.  Run...do not walk away from this company! The contracts, one for baths and one for kitchen) indicated work would take up to 2 weeks with some allowances for minor delays.  This project took 6 months to complete with no shows and broken promises time and time again even though the house was vacant and AKB was provided a key for access.  The GC Mike would repeatedly lie about when the work would be completed and about delays including stories about hospitalization and broken down vehicles for their subs and often just not show up or provide any reason.  I escalated to David the designer but the situation did not improve despite more promises.  Finally, I escalated to the owner who would not return my calls so I had to drive to the Stafford showroom when I knew he was there to discuss the job.  He basically told me that I have to escalate to David because that is his job and what he pays him for and only once the job is done if I am unsatisfied should I let him know.  I explained that I had already escalated to David and he kept reiterating his point until he called the GC Mike to the store to discuss my job.  Mike explained that he had addressed the issues with the subs that including drinking on the job, bringing their pitbull to the house while working and bathing him at our house, and leaving their beer in the fridge.  The site was a constant mess and tile work had to be redone in the bath because of the poor quality of the plumber/tile contractor.  They ripped out the encapsulation in the crawl space under the house during bathroom demo rather than drop a tarp and protect the less than 12 month old new encapsulation.  A new sub was brought into fix the tile work and it was mostly fixed with some issues that I just decided to let go as I cannot afford to keep the house empty longer losing $1100 a month while the house is empty. A few other highlights 1.  Significant damage done to drywall that GC Mike first disputed but did ultimately repair after I threatened to contact the police for property damage 2.  4 Failed Bathroom inspections that required me to travel to county office several times to pay before new inspection.  AKB did reimburse for the cost of the failed inspections but not my time or the delays to the project. 3.  When payment was due based on schedule, AKB would call immediately and incessantly and even "offer" to come to the house and pick up payment on day 1.  On one occassion I told them in advance I woud be in Texas for the week but they still called me every day.  Keep in mind, I had paid over 75% of the job even before they started the bathrooms and they wrote the contract in such a way they would be able to collect 100% of payment before even finishing half the project (so read closely the contract and use of "and" and "or"). 4.  AKB will not provide written estimates, will waive credit card fee when its convenient to them, and operates in a way that I have never seen any other company or contractor work.  5.  As note earlier, 6+months for a kitchen remodel and 2 baths.  These were very small rooms and the entire house is only one level and less than 1400 sq feet. 6.  Project delays due to no shows, poor tile installation, poor carpentry, and the juggling of a few subs between multiple jobs.  On a few occassions, my adult son heard GC Mike telling a sub what lie to tell to another customer about the reason for no show (yes, the broken truck excuse and flat tires were common). Now, I had read a few bad Angie List reviews about AKB and addressed this on my first visit with David.  He assured me those were old issues and the GC on those jobs was fired.  He showed me a stack of positive Angie List reviews on his desk and their price was competitive and David is a talented designer so against my gut instinct I moved forward with AKB.  Do your own research, AKB also has other DBA names American Marble.   I am sure if AKB responds to this post they will tell you that the GC Mike has been replaced as a result of my job and "other complaints." I did meet their new GC Tim and he did seem competent but too late to help with my nightmare project and experieince with AKB.  While doing your research, you will find that I have many positive reviews for other contractors on this site.  I have owned 14 homes and had 4 built (btw all were built in 6 months or less than the time for this remodel of a small kitchen and 2 baths) so I have extensive experience with contractors.  I always try to give companies the benefit of the doubt as a small business owner myself but in this case I could not avoid commenting on my experience to save someone else from making a mistake with AKB.  AKB will tell you if you were happy with the end result then you shouldn't complain, but I think most would agree that you don't pay a contractor $40k (price excludes all appliances, toilets, sinks, faucets, towel bars, lights, etc. as those you are responsible to provide) and expect to have to spend countless hours and trips fighting along the way, being disrespected and having your property disrespected, and being told that you are insignificant bascially because AKB US operations is small part of owner's efforts and therefore he doesn't have time to talk with you when you are not satisified with the work being done at your home.

DHeritage Contracting Services
nWe were persuaded to use Heritage by a last minute adjustment to their bid and the assurance that the work would be completed in 4 weeks because a job had been postponed and they wanted to keep their crew working. We were skeptical based on the scope of work, but as we had to be out of the house and living in a hotel we figured that even if it took that long to finish the portion of work in the downstairs so that we could move back into the house we were fine with that. We were in the hotel for 11 weeks. There was never an explanation or notification of progress. Emails were answered with one line responses and usually only addressed one of several questions. While some of the work, especially the tile work is very nice, some of it is sloppy. We lost count of the nail holes we had to fill in order to paint anything or the amount of caulk we bought to address gaps between windows, door frames, molding etc. No care was taken to avoid damage to personal possessions. Since we were told we could leave things in the basement if we pushed them to one side, we did that. We also mentioned that if it turned out that anything needed to be moved we would be happy to do so if notified. We were never notified, but came to the house to find possessions piled in one room, looking as if they had been tossed there to land as they fell, this included paintings and beds and light fixtures. Nothing was covered and there was drywall mud all over things. Several things were damaged beyond repair. Due to the length of time there was no AC in the house, nine weeks, there is mold damage we are still assessing. Had we been informed at any time that there was a change and we would have no air we could have made decisions based on that information. The floor was not protected and had plumbers seal, purple drips and runs everywhere. When we commented on the state of an area were  told was ready for us to move into, there was some clean up done, however the floor was scraped and is now damaged beyond repair and will have to be replaced. The painters seal was addressed in the bathroom by primer being applied, the stain has come back through. The kitchen cabinets were hung in such a way that the doors could not be opened with the recessed light covers on, so they took the covers off and left them off. When we mentioned the issue  and suggested it would be easier and less unsightly to move the cabinets down an inch rather than move the lighting and have to patch the ceiling we were told it would only be done for an extra charge. We attribute many of the issues to over-extension of their work force, an assessment corroborated by several of the more competent workers. But also the complete and total lack of communication. The overall experience has been nightmarish. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy.

It went great! Blake was very professional. He designed my dream kitchen and made it a reality in just two weeks. I am very pleased with the quality of work and my new kitchen looks like it should be on the cover of Southern Living!

I love this company. Chris is a valued resource in our circle of acquaintances and we are happy to see him be so successful. From start to finish, the work went exceptionally well, and was finished on time. We would work with no one else in the industry. For high-end work, we heartily recommend Chaney Constructuon (based in Elkridge).
