Recent Review: Went well.  They came on time, did the work unobtrusively, and the workers were neat, friendly, and helpful.  Chris, the sales manager was able to answer questions, responded quickly to our calls, and was knowledgeable.  The quality of the work appears to be good.

Recent Review: The entire crew-from sales to installation and follow-up were extremely professional. The salesperson provided me with excellent, well-researched material about crawl space encapsulation and was always available to answer my questions. The installation crew were extremely neat and efficient. They provided everything that they promised. I personally checked the installation and the quality of their work exceeded my expectations. The follow-up team made sure that all "loose ends" were addressed after completion of the job. I could not be more pleased with the results. This is a very capable and efficient team of professionals. My crawl space is now clean and dry. I would highly recommend JES to anyone considering crawl space encapsulation.

Recent Review: Just completed a kitchen remodeling and wanted to insulate the crawl space under the kitchen. Mr. Basement sealed off the vented crawl space and encapsulated the ground up to the rim joints with their "white space" material. Plus, they sprayed foam insulation at the rim joints. Not only did I get in insulated crawl space, I now have additional temperature controlled storage space. They did a very professional job with quality materials.

Recent Review: The crew performed the work over three days. This included installing sump pumps, French drains, vapor barrier, and spray foam. They also installed a vent and routed a down spout into the yard. The crawl space under my house is no longer flooding and doesn't smell musty anymore. Whenever it rains I can hear the sump pumps doing their job making me feel better that the water is being managed properly. I would highly recommend value dry to anyone needing any kind of flooding issues.

Recent Review: The gentleman looked over my problem and gave me advice that I am unable to followup on, i.e., ripping out a newly installed floor and encapsulating the crawl space.  I will ventilate it instead.

Recent Review: Crawl space was 400 sq ft with almost 1000 sq ft of total surface to cover.  Overall, the process from inspection to completion was good.  JES is very responsive and willing to answer questions at any time.  We reviewed three other proposals and selected JES because their inspector brought out several points that we hadn't noticed.  The JES repair and encapsulation concept was more logical and one of the less costly solutions.  JES also provided a research paper on Crawl Space Science - What to have done and why".  We further researched the subject ourselves and found that JES had a better understanding of our situation than the others who tried to sell us a lot more than we needed.  We definitely liked their floor material that is 20 mil thick - more than most of the other companies.  They also put down a molded plastic underliner that helps keep the liner off the dirt, allows you to move storage boxes into the area a little easier and less fear of tearing the material.  You still have to be careful, but this underliner is just another example of JES understanding the reality of the homeowner wanting to use the crawlspace after encapsulation. The workers were on time and stayed until the job was completed.  The crawl space had an easy access from a full-size basement door and a two foot wide perimeter to walk on two sides of the crawl space.  The workers placed drop cloths across all the floors from the outside door to the crawl space.  They even taped drop cloths to the bathroom.  The workers were very nice.  When I would see how they were coming along, they would explain to me what the different processes were. They left some extra encapsulation material and tape in case we did tear the material.  But the warranty is one of the best, if not the best.  As we read the science paper, I did notice that the article recommended dropping the encapsulation material below the top of the crawl space so you could notice if termites were active.  Since Virginia is known for a dense termite population, we called JES and asked them about the gap that should have been done on the walls.  They sent out a technician to cut the wall material and expose the top of the block wall.  He also left some of the very strong tape (at my suggestion) so I could make a clean edge along the cut material.  As the technician finished, we noticed that the vent covers were cracked.  The technician was not far from the main office, went back, returned with two new vent covers, and installed them.

Excellent - crew was professional and interested in performing the best job possible, didn't take any shortcuts, cleaned up each day, so it didn't look like they were there. Job was estimated to take 3 days maybe out to 4 if they ran into any problems. Completed in 2 and 1/2. Arrived on time Monday the 4th, worked all day.   Came back again on Tuesday  the 5th and worked all day.  Returned to finish up half-a-day on Wednesday the 6th.  Randall stopped by on the second day to inspect and to clarify any questions.  We can notice a difference already in the interior of the house as far as moisture and odors.

BComfenergy, LLC
Our energy consultant, Matt Pascual, gave us a clear explanation of the work Comfenergy would do, but he was also accommodating to the few changes we requested. He followed up by giving us his cell phone number and the two times we called him, he answered immediately and attentively addressed our questions. His professionalism influenced our selection of Comfenergy over the other 3 companies that also came out to our house to explain and estimate the job. We were given a work start date and our work crew, headed by Ruben Samper, was there promptly on that date and promptly each of the following days. Ruben was trustworthy, easy to work with, and very responsive to any concerns that we had. He seemed to have an excellent working relationship with his crew and they all worked cleanly and efficiently. The whole job was completed in 4 days.

We hired SES to address moisture and mold issues in our two crawl spaces. Overall, I am happy with the service received and the final product, though I note that there were a few scheduling hiccups along the way. INITIAL APPOINTMENT/SCOPE OF WORK Scheduling the initial appointment was easy. The SES representative was on time, knowledgeable, spent a good amount of time examining our two crawl spaces, and explained the options to us in understandable terms. He recommended crawl space encapsulation, a dehumidifer, sealing the vents and rim joist with spray foam, insulating the walls with foam board, removing our old/moldy fiberglass insulation, and mold treatment. We chose SES -- despite being the 2nd most expensive quote we got of 4 quotes received -- because they offered the most comprehensive service for our needs (including mold removal/treatment). I did not feel that SES used aggressive sales tactics or tried to push anything that I did not need (which I heard was somewhat common in the basement waterproofing industry). SCHEDULING & INSTALLATION SES estimated 3 days for the job and was able to schedule a crew to perform the work within 1.5 months (despite significant rains in the NoVA area). The night before the appointment, I received an email saying there would be a one-day delay because the crew had to finish a prior job. This was understandable, but if the job had taken the full 3 estimated days, I would have had to change my work schedule to make it work (it all worked out but I note it since this could be a drawback for others who do not have flexibility on dates / work without much advanced notice). The installation itself was smooth. The 3-man crew was timely, courteous, very professional, and cleaned up after work on each day. They completed everything in 2 days (instead of the projected 3 days). SES then had to schedule an electrician to come out to do the electrical work necessary to complete the dehumidifer installation. There was a minor hiccup here in that SES scheduled the electrician without first communicating with me about the date. I found out about the appointment only when I called SES of my own accord to ask when they were planning to send the electrician (since I had not heard from them about a date). Fortunately, I was able to work from home to make the appointment work, but communication could have been a bit clearer. FOLLOW-UP I was impressed with SES's follow-up. An SES representative came back to my house a month after the installation -- as he promised -- to follow up and check on the humidity levels in my crawl spaces. At that point, we decided to do additional work and install a dehumidifer in our second crawl space as well. This required drilling a hole in the foundation wall and installation of an electrical outlet. Here, again, though, there was a minor hiccup on scheduling the work. SES scheduled an electrician to come out, but when he arrived, he realized he was not insured to drill the hole necessary for installing the electrical outlet. This meant SES then had to schedule another date/time for someone else to first come drill the hole, and then another date/time for the electrician to come back. Luckily, I had family in town staying with me and thus some flexibility as to scheduling. But again, communication could have been clearer and prevented the hiccup. That said, SES accommodated me when I had to switch the date of installation of the additional dehumidifer, and the installation itself went off without a hitch. I am also very happy with the professionalism of the installation crew that came out to install the second dehumidifer. As for whether all of this work solves my moisture & mold problems, I am cautiously optimistic. It all looks very good, and the dehumidifers are humming away. I'll have to wait for the next rainy season to see.

FJES Foundation Repair
It has been 4 years since we first contracted with JES to encapsulate our crawl spaces. At the time, I wrote a fair review based on the appearance of the crawl spaces. Since that time, we have had mice and broken humidifiers. At first, JES agreed to replace the humidifier and asked me to modify my review in 2014. After the second dehumifidier stopped working this year, we again noticed a large colony of mice and mold. We have now had three real encapsulation services look at the crawl spaces and give us their assessment. Bottom line, JES may be good at basement sealing, but they have no business holding themselves out as a crawl space encapsulation service. To name a few of the improper practices, they did not seal the crawlspace (including the vents), they improperly installed insulation on the crawl space subfloors rather than installing wallboard insulation, and the humidifier was improperly installed. I am also informed that they used Home Depot grade vapor barriers (meaning less than 8 mil) and did not provide a proper overlay between the sheets (e,g, on foot overlay). I could go on, but you should not contract with JES to do a crawl space encapsulation. We now have to contract with a real encapsulation company to remove everything and do it properly.

Randall Butterfield and his crew are TOP NOTCH!   Unlike other companies, Randall gave us an honest assessment of what was required to do the job right.  We needed our crawl space leveled and a new barrier in the basement (encapsulation) put in. This was not an easy task given the small amount of room his crew had to maneuver around in our basement.  Like clockwork, the workers arrived on time and completed the job in three days. Upon completion, the work area was left spotless.  I highly recommend you consider Basement Masters Waterproofing!

AMoldGone LLC
MoldGone showed up on time and were very professional.  They did a comprehensive mold inspection of the house.  Some mold was identified in our crawl space.  MoldGone gave a quote to lay down a vapor barrier, install new insulation, and clean our air ducts.  They seemed very knowledgeable and were not pushy at all and gave us time to evaluate what we wanted done.  In the end we decided to do a different direction and do a complete crawl space encapsulation with another company.

We had noticed some things that could indicate foundation issues.  Rob Gold came out and assured us that no foundation work was necessary.  He did note that we should have our crawl spaces encapsulated, and we are strongly considering it.  If we do, we are certainly using JES.  Rob is very knowledgeable and professional. Clearly, JES is a company with integrity.

Jay, the inspector/salesman did not listen, he just wanted to talk.  Was a complete know it all.  I wanted someone over to address a specific situation and all he did was try to sell an almost $19,000 encapsulation system.  The guy was so bad that other workers for the fireplace I had over were questioning who this guy was based on his demeanor, attitude, lack of professionalism and the fact that Jay told the fireplace people to stop working so he could talk.  Thought I was getting a knowledgable crawl space inspector, but instead got a blantantly terrible salesman.  He couldn't even measure the humidity because his battery was dead and then he proceeded without permission to remove and check all the smoke alarms for a 9 volt battery and then when he couldn't find them there, he started literally rummaging through our personal items which were in open boxes to find a battery.  After all that, he still said, well it feels like there is more than 50% humidity down there.  I needed someone to look at the existing vapor barrier in a particular location in the crawl space, however Jay spent all of 5 minutes down there and didn't even crawl to the area.  He just took a picture of it.  When he came out and I started asking questions about what he discovered, he acted like I had no right asking him anything and kept asking me to watch his stupid videos.  And then he wrote up a ridiculous quote for $18,000+.
