Recent Review: A+ customer service and they did a fantastic job. Great communication and a fair price on the work needed to be done. I really appreciate the owner explaining to me what would work for my project. Everything looks perfect.

Recent Review: They were punctual, efficient, and apparently competent, but preparation of surfaces for painting, especially window trim, was not as thorough and careful as I would have expected. This probably accounts in part for the low price.
Recent Review: Only one glitch. Initial delivery had one unit of the wrong size. Company re-ordered, which took about 3 weeks, and the new unit arrived properly sized but wrong color. Another wait. No serious consequences, just one odd misfit for a while. (It was on the back of the house, so the neighbors didn't get ugly.) What made the whole experience noteworthy was the selling phase. In this area, window salesmen are notoriously aggressive, and my wife and I had had an experience several years ago which put us completely off the whole process. When I (now a widower) returned to the arena last spring, I did some pre-selection, with Angie's List and other sources. A world of difference: calm, matter-of-fact presentations, and firm, well-defined bids readily available. Further, WindowUniverse seems to have a real staff with a half-dozen people involved at various points, instead of one entrepreneur who sleeps in his car. The windows work, too; I've been toasty warm amid all the polar vortices. All in all, a nice if somewhat expensive adventure.
Recent Review: I contacted Lewis to have the metal trim repaired. I told him that it was probably a very small job. He said that he would call me back later that evening and he did. During that call, he stated that he would come by my house between late morning and early afternoon the next day and he did. I had a much different experience with another handyman who made an appointment but didn't keep it. He gave me two options: repair the trim (less costly) or replace it. I selected the repair option. I also pointed out a downspout that had detached and he had no problem with adding that to the list. He completed all work in a timely manner. Now the metal trim is well secured. So is the downspout. He's very courteous and professional. I definitely plan to use his services in the future.
I have used this business several times and have always been happy with their work. Once again I was very pleased with the quality of the work and with the friendly guy they sent to do the work. But I was annoyed that the work began 3 hours late, even though I had made the appointment nearly 2 weeks ahead of time. The service called me the day before the work was to be done to tell me they made a mistake and scheduled another job before mine, so the handyman would arrive at 10:00 instead of 8:30. On the day he was due to be there at 10:00, the office called at 10:20 to tell me he would be an additional 45 minutes late; however, he didn?t arrive until 11:30 because of an unexpected problem at the first job. I had other plans for the afternoon, but I wanted to have the work done as soon as possible, so I cancelled my plans and allowed the work to be done that day. Andrew is a multi-talented young man who worked quickly and efficiently on the 3 projects I wanted to have done. He was friendly and polite and was obviously committed to doing a great job and making me happy. He caulked the chimney where it met the siding on the outside of the house, installed baseboard and shoe moulding in a small bathroom, and installed a new shower door in a recently tiled shower. He completed these tasks in less than 4 hours, which made me very happy since Mr. Handyman charges by the hour. I used an Angie?s List coupon that reduced the price even more. Andrew did an outstanding job on all of the projects. He also told me that he had noticed deterioration on some of the trim on the outside of the house. He identified the location of the problems and described the process involved in completing the repairs. I appreciated the information and plan to have the work done in the future. I would definitely contact Mr. Handyman again when I have another project to complete; however, the next time they tell me they will be late, I may have to find someone else to do the work.

ATHE FINISHING COMPANY
Brian responded the same day to my call for an estimate and set up a day the following week to come by. He was straight forward about not being able to install crown moulding on the prow and A-framed loft ceiling of our upstairs master bedroom - something I hadn't thought about - since the angles were just too extreme for the angle of the moulding. He returned a week and a half later and installed the crown moulding in the rest of the home. He also replaced the cap moulding/shelf of a half wall in the loft area and dressed it up with new trim moulding. He and his helper did a great job with the moulding. They caulked and prepared all of it since we were having the entire home painted after they finished. It looks fantastic after the painting and we are very pleased with the result of Brian's work. I hope to have him back at a future date to create a fireplace mantel, once we renovate the fireplace. Very professional, clean, communicative and finished in one day.

ATHE FINISHING COMPANY
The overall job was superior. It turned out better than I was hoping for. Brian is a talented finish carpenter and has a designer's eye. He was professional, friendly, and very knowledgable. He cleaned up daily after working and left the garage cleaner when he left than before he started the work! I would recommend him to anyone. He made some suggestions that really made the look of the finished product special! I can't say enough good things about his work! At the initial meeting for the estimate, he gave me a couple of catalogs to peruse for the balusters, and directed me to a website where I could "plug in" the posts and balusters that I picked out to see how it would look. He was working during the time around Thanksgiving, and was punctual and worked consistently until the job was done. It took a little longer than he projected, but that couldn't be helped--the newel posts that I picked took a little longer to ship than usual. He worked around my schedule and was very accommodating when I made a couple of last minute changes. I love my new staircase, and it improves the look of my home's interior tremendously!!

It went wonderfully. The painter was absolutely excellent. He didn't need a drop cloth or tape. The work was flawless. He was very professional and personable all at the same time. I would highly recommend this company and plan to get them back for more work!

I think he stays busy and so do I but once we finally caught up with each other and scheduled a date he showed up on time and went right to work. I would recommend him!

FSimpson'S Home Improvements
Was called back 2 days after first call, was told that he "lost my voice mail" finally got in touch with him and set up a time and everything. He asked for my address I told him I lived in Hopewell which is one of the surrounding areas of Richmond and was told that it was too far away. It states on Angies list that he services Richmond and the surrounding area. I was a complete waste of time talking with this guy, I feel like I was led on.

AMIGUEL TORRES CONTRACTING CO.
Miguel Torres and his team did a great job on our basement renovation project. They were professional, on time, came when they said they would, cared about the quality of their work and cleaned up every day. They actually finished BEFORE expected. We are very happy with their work and will definitely be hiring them again to do work on our home.

My family and I hired Adam to paint three staircases at our house. Two staircases lead to upper levels and one lead to our basement . Everything needed to be painted, the walls, the ceiling, the baseboards, they needed a lot of work. We were pleasantly surprised with how the baseboards turned out, all the black marks that used to be on them were gone. The walls and ceiling turned out perfectly no paint was left on the rails or the ceiling lights. Adam only took about three days and charged a more than reasonable price considering the professionalism and quality of work delivered . We will definitely be calling him for our next project !!!

I rated the living room job already, and that was great. The bedroom and hallway jobs are underway. Recently they were painting my bedroom when my stepmom was airlifted to VCU hospital. We had to postpone the painting job. Ed Barber and his crew not only made the house presentable again for my father to stay with us, but they set up our bedroom and made the bed! I'm not kidding. They also do quality work. This is the 2nd job we've hired them to do.Thanks Cabana Boys!
