Recent Review: It was refreshing to have hired a service that was competent and seamless throughout the entire process. Peggy was pleasant and helpful in scheduling a time that best fit into my schedule. Aaron and Adam were prompt and efficient at cleaning my chimney while explaining the process and providing solutions for maintaining a clean chimney throughout the year. They are clearly very knowledgable and experienced with their work. I highly recommend SweepMasters for anyone needing service to their chimney. Keep up the quality work.
We had used American Professional Chimney & Masonry before and just like last time, we were very happy with their services. Scheduling a time convenient for both, us and them, was a bit tricky but they really accommodated us - not typical these days!! Brian and his colleague were very polite and professional. Brian was also incredibly knowledgeable about the specific brand of fireplace insert we have and he gave us really good maintenance suggestions. He and his colleague worked very efficiently and left everything behind as they found it. Brian even fixed a cracked insulation panel in our insert and explained exactly why he used cerwool rather than fireplace cement. He also pointed out a potential repair issue with our chimney but without being pushy! Overall, we were very happy with the guys from American Professional Chimney & Masonry and will certainly use them again!

They arrived on time (actually a little early) and went straight to work. They were done in less than 30 minutes, and everything inside the house was spotless when they were done. They identified a problem with the chimney crown and provided a quote that so far I can't get a lower quote on.

ANicholas Chimney Stove & Fireplace Inc
Very pleasant experience. I called to get an estimate and schedule a chimney sweep after receiving a mailer discount card. I had already researched chimney sweep companies in my area and printed out the contact info of this company from Angie's List days earlier so getting the discount mailer by coincidence made this an even easier decision to call and schedule. They were busy (a good sign) so my appointment was scheduled for two weeks out. On the day of the appointment, the two sweeps arrived on time, walked through the house to survey the two fireplaces and setup their drop clothes, etc... Within about 1-2hrs both chimneys were swept, the glass doors were cleaned like new, and there were no signs of any debris inside the home. Staff was very knowledgeable and pleasant and they worked very efficiently. The estimate was exactly how much I was charged. I will be using them again in the future.

Excellent. They came out same day (September 2nd) as I contacted them. They were friendly yet professional. Swept chimney and told me about how dirty it was. Brushed and vacuumed the inside of the wood stove. It hasn't been that clean since I bought it.

replaced dryer vent upon inspection, did not come with external screen/cover the fireplace chimney sweep was performed, but it seems that the cord that closes the chimney cap is still very dirty...is this supposed to be cleaned during a chimney sweep? when i grabbed it it had black ash all over it.

Leo was great! They called to see if they could come early. They did a good job cleaning out my fireplace and inspected the cap to make sure there weren't any openings for animals to enter in the house.

ACapitol Chimney Service LLC
I bought the Angie's List Coupon($99 for a full chimney sweep and $100 credit toward masonry repair) and called the office of Capitol Chimney Service to set up a date for a chimney sweep. Unfortunately no one showed up on the date alotted for service. I called and they said that my request never quite made it into the system. Not a problem b/c it was that urgent anyway. The serviceman(I can't recall his name) came over and assessed the situation. He said that he could only give me a partial sweep b/c of the old fashioned damper that I had. He gave me a few options: change the damper and get a full sweep, keep the existing damper and get a partial sweep, or get a refund. I chose the first option: change the damper. He quoted me at $450 which seemed somewhat high since their website said it cost $285-$385 but I proceeded anyway. He was very nice over the phone and very knowledgeable and got the job done. My chief complaint was that the newly installed damper didn't utilize the old knob on the outside of the fireplace to open and close itself. It was now to be opened and closed by a pulley on the inside. I wasn't made aware of this and liked the functionality of the knob on the outside. I kinda thought he would have mentioned this but maybe he didn't see it as a big deal. I called to ask him about it and question him about minor cracks in the masonry repair on the inside of the chimney(to honor the $100 masonry repair credit) but got no response. I think these Angie's List coupons are a real shot in the dark most of the time. They want your business but want to sell you up a river a majority of the time otherwise they won't produce much of a profit. I feel that this was the case. Good work, but it could have been better.

AThe Fireplace Doctor
We used a Angie's List special to purchase a chimney sweep, which we used in April 2012. Ben and his assistant arrived on a timely basis and quickly got to the task. Ben worked from the roof and his assistant was inside. They were careful and courteous. They seemed to be thorough in the work they performed. Ben then came down and showed me photos he had taken from the roof of our chimney. He pointed out various problems regarding the crown and the mortar joints. He showed me photos of the specific problems, pointing out that moisture had penetrated the joints (as evidenced by growing moss) and stated that these problems would lead to eventual damage of the flue tiles and other problems. I have been on the roof several times and was aware of the moss, but I did not realize the root cause of that moss. I really liked the fact that he showed me photos of the specific problems, otherwise I would have had to join him on the roof. He suggested application of spot-pointing and a water-repellent deep penetrating solution spray, as well as resurfacing of the crown and filling and sealing of all voids. Baed on these photos and his advice, we agreed to the extra work. He stated this work requires additional materials that he did not have with him so we would have to called The Fireplace Doctor corporate office to schedule the additonal work. On the date of the scheduled work, it was overcast and raining on and off. We expected a call from The Fireplace Doctor to reschedule as we assumed the work could not be performed in that weather. We were surprised when Ben showed up at the scheduled time. Given the spotty weather conditions and as it was not raining at his starting location, he thought it might not be raining at our home and wanted to be on schedule. However, when he arrived it was raining and the work obviously could not be done. He rescheduled the work on the spot for June 2, 2012. On June 2, Ben arrived promptly and got to work. It took him a couple of hours. I have been on the roof since then and he certainly resurfaced the crown and filled the voids in the mortar joints. I have no way of evaluating the effectiveness of the water-repellent spray; however, the work carries a 10-Year Leak Warranty, which gives me peace-of-mind. Overall, we were pleased with the work performed and would not hesitate to use The Fireplace Doctor again in the future.
