Recent Review: When purchasing a new home the inspector noted 2 items that made me uneasy, and suggested I hire a structural engineer to look at them. One was the foundation because of a 2 inch drop and some minor cracking, the other was an issue with stone veneer. I found Tim through a google search, and he was luckily available in a few days to come and inspect the house. He was punctual, professional, thorough and well worth his fee. As we went through the house he explained what he was looking for, finding, and what it meant. The foundation settlement turned out to not be an issue (I wonder what a foundation repair company would have told me), but the veneer was unstable and is an issue that will have to be addressed.
Business Description: Residential design is where Structures started and it remains one of our strongest market sectors. Our ability to design to various residential styles including traditional, contemporary and post modern has allowed us to become one of the ‘go to’ structural engineering firms in the central Texas region for custom homes. We have experience in single family and multi-family residences, including apartments, duplexes and condos.
Whether a client wants to build a new residence or have us assess if they can add a second floor or remove a few walls, we enjoy working with clients on a variety of project scopes including:
pool structure design
shade structure design
We understand that no matter the size of the project our client’s residences hold special meaning to them and so it is important for us to use our creativity and knowledge to help guide their design concepts.
Recent Review: The engineer, Moises Cruz, did a complete visual assessment of our pier-and-bean foundation. He crawled under the house and checked out each pier, the soil beneath the house, and did a visual check on the interior and exterior of the house. His analysis was invaluable to us, as at least one foundation company claimed we needed over $12,000 worth of work. Mr. Cruz pointed out a few issues that will be substantially cheaper to resolve and will have a far greater impact on the overall stability of our property. He was very professional, friendly, and competent. If anyone suspects that they may have foundation problems, I would highly recommend calling A-1 to get an honest assessment from a neutral third-party, rather than a foundation repair company.
Recent Review: He's very professional and knows his business. I think it's really important if you're going to get work done where you don't live, you have to hire a structural engineer who know what they're doing and really understands the area. He really knows far-west Texas. He is good. I would use him again and he also gets all A's.

Reviews in San Marcos for Installing Retaining Walls
Jeff did the structural engineering for foundation repair for our duplexes. In 2011, we followed his recommendations for repairs. On one unit, we later discovered the unit was not level and the foundation company needed to make additional repairs to make the foundation level. The foundation company was upset because they said they did what Jeff spec'd out for them. On another unit, Jeff did not recommend repairs but the unit we've now learned was, and is, not level and we have had continuing problems with it. Jeff came out to check it again earlier this year, charged us $600 again, and made his recommendation that the foundation was not in need of repair. Based on Jeff's recommendation, we had new tile floors installed. Six months later we have had further foundation damage indicated by door frames cracking and new tile popping loose, and grout lines separating. Jeff offered to come back again and check it for the same $600 fee; we declined. He bears no responsibility to us; who chose to follow his recommendations. If you need an Engineer for foundation repair, we highly recommend you use someone else.

Mr. Tucker was prompt and thorough. His examination of the problem area was very thorough, and his report was received in record time. Definitely recommend Mr. Tucker to anyone that needs the services of a structural engineer.

Jeff came out the same day I called as he was in the area. He was very thorough, and did a fabulous job. Very satisfied. I felt like he knew what was going on, and I understood completely what he concluded as he did a good job of explaining it to me (not a structural engineer!).

It is important to note that Kirk and his colleague engineers are structural engineers who specialize in foundations and structural integrity issues. I am happy that I contacted A-1 and would recommend the company and Kirk to any homeowner worried about similar problems.

THEY CAME RECOMMENDED. THE PRICE WAS VERY REASONABLE FOR ENGINEERING WORK AND THE JOB WAS EXCELLENT. WE HAD NO PROBLEM GETTING ANY PERMITS AND HAVE ALSO HAD NO STRUCTURAL PROBLEMS.

I was pleasantly surprised to be able to make an appointment for the next day. He called and said he was running 10 minutes late, and arrived within those 10 minutes. He listened to what I had to say, looked at the corner, took a look at the pictures from when we purchased the home, did some level measurements in the Master bedroom (above the corner). He gave me a detailed explaination for what had occured, then asked if I needed a full report for our home, or just one on the corner. We were just looking for one on the corner, so he said that he would reduce the price to $325. I was VERY pleased with the entire transaction and would recommend him to anyone!
