Recent Review: I needed a pool liner replacement. My liner was 8 years old, faded in areas and somewhat brittle. Worse yet, late last summer a raccoon ate large holes in one corner down to the water line seeking insects that had gotten behind. I patched it OK, but knew I really was due for a new liner. I am very knowledgeable on pool equipment and chemistry including salt water pools - in fact as an engineer I have written articles on these subjects. I have had salt water pools for over 30 years, starting in Houston. I have installed pumps, filters and salt water systems for myself and friends, but I don't do liners. So after searching the BBB, Angie's list and Goin' Swimmin's web site, I called them. Clayton Bechard, the owner, made the initial visit. I was impressed with his pool knowledge and honest approach. He had a large selection of liner samples. My wife chose a new pebble bottom design with a 20 mil base and 27 mil walls. This new pattern had much improved seaming technology as well, as Clayton pointed out. Clayton specified foam in the corners behind the liner to make the corners more solid and discourage another raccoon attack. My pool is a Lazy L, shape, not the easiest to accurately measure, but Clayton's guys did an outstanding job, generating CAD drawings to capture all the key dimensions for custom manufacture of the liner, which took just over two weeks. I have had four liners in this pool since 1982 and this is the best fit by far. Clayton's guys came on schedule, made the necessary touch-up repairs to the pool base and installed the liner. After filling the pool, they installed the necessary start-up chemicals. They were courteous, worked hard and picked up stuff afterward. My wife and I were very pleased with Goin' Swimmin'. We plan to have them come back in the fall to install a safety cover.

Recent Review: Disappointment. Lies. Deceit. Betrayal. Over $30k overcharged. Did I mention lies? When you commit to building your dream outdoor space, it is an emotional rollercoaster no matter what. But when you build your outdoor space with A Cut Above Outdoors, be prepared for the above. :( Things started out slow, and maybe that should have been a sign, but we started in October 2017 with the first tree coming down and then they left for a month. We extended GRACE because that is what you do. "We can't use the pool now anyway, we were promised it would be done in March, they still have time." This is what we kept telling ourselves, when day after day, nobody would show up. No text message saying, "Hey, we are finishing up a job, we will be back in a week, nothing." NO COMMUNICATION! BUT, they had no problem calling us to get another check. $15k, $10k, $25k, and we would still not have much to show for it. I understand, it takes a lot of upfront money to get a project going and getting the materials on the job site to start working. By December 2017 we had footers in the ground for the pool house. That is it. When we came back from Christmas, there were some walls put up, but we were still assured it would be done in March. Months go by, they would show up a few days here or there, enough to get us excited only to not show up again for weeks. In March 2018 we HAD to meet at the local nursery to pick out the plants for the backyard because "when we got back from vacation, we wouldn't even recognize the place" (plants were eventually planted in June) March comes and goes and we still don't have a pool we can swim in (it is in the ground, but not functioning) or a pool house to use. At this point, we are going to do everything we can to make sure that they get finished. We have a hard deadline of July 6, 2018 when my sister is getting married IN OUR BACKYARD! 90% of the Knotty Pine that is in the pool house was stained by my husband and I at night so the next day the carpenter could spend his time putting the walls up, rather than staining wood. My husband and I also painted the bathroom and pantry at night so they can spend their time doing things that we can't. To date, our space is mostly complete (with so much work done ourselves, that we paid for them to do, staining, landscaping, painting, etc.). The original bid had gorgeous NanaWall doors in the pool house (that we specifically requested and gave Joe the information and contact for). Joe Nash told us the doors had been ordered and would be in around June. Then he told us that they wouldn't be in until the middle of July (again, wedding is July 6). Then, after we got a phone call about "needing more money" and it was the "final payment on the doors and labor", I called Bruce at NanaWall only to find out that these doors have NEVER been ordered, they take 8-12 weeks to order and that Joe Nash would never return any of his phone calls or emails. More lies from Joe! When we confronted Joe's middle man (because he wouldn't come out to talk to us in person) and told him that the doors have never been ordered, he was floored! But, when Gary went back to Joe to tell Joe that "we aren't doing their doors anymore because they aren't ordered", Joe never argued or tried to talk his way out of his previous lies about ordering the doors. I guess he knew we caught him in just 1 more lie! To save you any more disgust, I will tell you that in the end, they came to us knowing they owe us over $5500. Gary promised we would have an answer the same night he met with us (, by 8pm. He messaged us that night and said that he and Joe talked, Joe needed to run things by Tiera (his wife) and they were meeting again at 10am the next morning and would be in touch with us by 12 or 1 that next day. Another text message and Gary told us that he would have an answer later that night. Finally, at 8pm we called and sent Gary a text, another excuse was used and we said enough is enough. Gary said we would have an answer "tomorrow." We told him if we don't hear from you by 8am, you can talk to our attorney. When you lie about how much product you use (when we can easily count and measure the pavers and landscape block - over $28,800 over charged in just pavers and block, not to mention things he tried to double charge us for!), claim the weather is a factor for him not working but prove him wrong with the daily rainfall for Cumberland Co and the only way he can respond is huffing, puffing and yelling louder and louder, there is no coming back from that. Top it off, 4 of his employees came up to me at different times throughout the project apologizing for how he had treated us. Character can go a long way, it is unfortunate that his character doesn't stand up to his promises.

Recent Review: We could not be happier with the new pool. Our yard looks fantastic with it in it. It is really huge you can swim laps in it. It is perfectly even. The pump filter system works excellent. The installation was a big job for several days but they got it done. They didn't destroy the yard in doing so and did a good clean up.

FCLEARWATER POOL & SPA
Last fall we had Clearwater close up and cover our pool. During some high winds the cover blew off. Mid-December my husband went in to ask them to come and recover the pool. They said they couldn't make it before Christmas, but the would be there after. That was fine. Early - Mid February when they still had not come to replace the cover I called them to remind them. They had a record of my husband coming in, but no record of saying they would come out. I was told that there would be no point in replacing the cover now, that I should call them back late March - early April and they would come out and remove the plugs and get the pool running again. Over this past weekend I noticed that the pool was already beginning to turn green, so Monday morning I called them to come out and start up the pool and add chemicals to keep it from turning any greener. We ran into this same problem last year and ended up spending $500--600 to get the green out, because they did not come out and add salt when they said they would. This is another whole string of events that I won't get into and that my husband and I ahve to accept some responsibility for. They said that it might be over a week before they could get there. I was very unhappy with that answer and told her I wold call back. Later I found that I had a voicemail from Clearwater saying that they would come out that day and put the plugs in place. When I got home and checked the pool, that is exactly and ALL they had done, they had not filled it with water or started the pump. I did not check, but I feel sure they did not add any chemicals and the pool was filthy from being left uncovered for about 3 months. I was also told that the $180 I paid for them to cover the pool at the end of the year last fall only included labor and a cable we were missing. It did not include chemicals to prepare the pool for winter. I was told that we should have taken care of that before they came to close the pool. None of this makes any sense to me. This is only ONE bad experience we have had with this company. There are too many others to go into. Like when we called them to install the slide we had already bought and paid for and they did not come until the next summer. Or the electrical outlet they installed for the hot tub we bought for them that never worked correctly. Or the crappy job they did installing the lights for the pool that we purchased from them. The list goes on and on.

DPOOL & SPA DEPOT
My experience was with the Hickory Hollow location in Antioch, TN (not Goodlettsville, TN location). I would not recommend using this company. I actually had to retain an attorney to force completion of the project to achieve some level of satisfaction after exhausting all other efforts on my part. I also experience extremely lousy communication with this location.

ATIPTON BUILDERS POOL SHOP
I am totally green when it comes to pools. I know NOTHING! So my husband and I purchased a home with a pool and neither of us know anything about pools. When we had a problem with our new pool, we used Angie's List (wink wink) and found a recommended pool service and blind called them. They were WONDERFUL! They talked me through what they thought the problem was and how to fix it. I never had to spend a penny to fix what was wrong! And this wasn't a little thing either. It was mildly complicated, and they were very patient with me and professional! We will be calling on them for everything from now on!

CThe Water Store
I called on 4/29 and asked to have my above ground pool opened. The owner, Jeff Smith, said he could do it on Monday 5/2 and I was amazed at how quick he could do the work. He was late getting to my house but did call to let me know that he would be running behind as he was getting some supplies. He spent about 3 hours opening my pool. He told me that I need to add a chemical at 7 that night, turn the pump off for 48 hours and then vacuum out what had settled. My issue is that after the 48 hours there was almost as much stuff in the bottom as there was when we was there. He did get a lot of leaves out but I have spent over 5 hours on it and I still do not have it all out. The person that opened my pool last year had gotten everything out and the pool had far more stuff in the bottom than it did this year. Also he left some empty chemical bottles around the pool and also just left my cover laying on the ground and did not even ask where I wanted it.

FSeaside Pools
After the hole was excavated, an ordinary vinyl swimming pool liner was laid on top of the dirt and a thin layer of concrete was poured over the liner. Rock designs were shaped and painted into and on top of the concrete to try give the appearance that the pool was made of rocks. During the construction, we had a rainstorm. Water built up beneath the pool, causing the liner to float and buckling the layer of concrete. Large pieces of concrete broke off and the liner was also punctured in at least one place. Mr. Noon felt that this could be best remedied by adding a couple of hydrostatic valves to the bottom of the pool. He assured me that this would prevent any future buckling, etc. As construction continued on the pool, we had another rainstorm. Not a severe, out-of-the-ordinary storm, just a standard rain for the area. The pool once again floated and buckled! By September of 2011, we had no completed pool and Mr. Noonan said that in order for him to repair the damage and complete construction of the pool, that we would have to pay him additional money, as could not spend any more money on our pool. I've included pictures of the second round of buckling, which also shows the poor quality of construction, including rough edges, badly painted "rocks", cracked seams and uneven surfaces. There are several qualified, legitimate pool builders in the Middle Tennessee area. Use one of them for your pool construction and leave Mr. Noonan to pursue his karaoke career.
