Recent Review: Jeff Gilley and his crew showed up later than what was previously stated by Jeff. Gilley. The man working on the door frame made a comment about how he don't like having to redo work somebody else has worked on. Said nobody told them the wood was old and rotted; untrue because I told Jeff about the frame and the door. I was taking pictures when the guy finished working on the door frame and noticed the threshold hadn't been removed. I did ask about it but can't remember his reply. As the men were finishing up installing the doors they were complaining about being late to something they had planned for that evening. Later on Mr. Gilley returned with boards for the door frame ( I bought a door with a broke frame at a discounted price) inside and out. The boards weren't the right size as I pointed out to Mr. Gilley. He said the doors weren't in straight, it's a little crooked. Said I can paint around the door frame gaps and the threshold. About a week after, I noticed a gap under the front door; light from the outside showing under the door. I texted and called Mr. Gilley about it. He said he would buy a door sweep and install it but had to finish the job they were already working on. The guy that made the remark about re-doing somebody's work was with him and made a smart remark for them being late when I asked about them being at my house at the appointed time. I won't be using this service again. Mr. Gilley said he could do a better job of installing the doors than Lowe's would. I never asked Lowe's to get a comparison price because I put my trust in his word. I love the doors and so do family and friends. The doors look nice on the house. The threshold and the gaps are noticeable. Never showed up on time even tho it was the time he arranged to come. Update 6/22/18: I rechecked the doors and there's a place by the light switches where the paint was chipped along the door frame. There wasn't any gaps outside the frame so that's why the ratiing has changed. The doors were installed crooked is what Jeff Gilley told me; said it was alright. Inside the house there's one gap that I noticed during installation and it was filled with caulk. I can still see light coming from under the front door. The threshold from the old door wasn't removed. I'm happy with my new doors; not the service. I didn't use Angie's List for this service.

Recent Review: First of all let me say I will use Landmark (Eric again). I appreciate the fact that he was on time and on schedule. He was very accommodating as I had to make changes as we went along due to price.  Eric was not the best priced bid that I had.  I was looking for an outfit that could do ALL my projects.  I got estimates from three different outfits.  Eric's was the most expensive however I decided to go with him based on Angie List reviews.  He seemed to have a lot of experience.  Which proved to be true as the project went along.  The bathroom was a total gut (with the exception of the tub).  I knew when I purchased the place that there was water damage.  It ended up being more extensive than originally thought and wet/mildew wood with leaking valve added $600 to the cost. The finished results were beautiful.  He fixed a water damaged ceiling and made it blend well.  Installed new vanity, toilet, tub surround and tile floor.  The other large project was the patio extension. I decided to go with cement since it was close to the same price as a wood deck and requires less maintenance.  It turned out great.  The wood railings and gate are beautiful.  The only other "major" project was the kitchen counters, new sink and backsplash.  Turned out great.  Then, there were a bunch of little projects such as replacing light fixtures, installing over-the-oven microwave, repairing ceiling fan, installing doggy door, storm door replacement, replacing the wood under kitchen sink.  He did a few things at no additional cost such as the dimmer switch for the dining room light and something with the electrical on the over-the-stove microwave. The only negatives is that there was one thing I thought he could've done at no additional cost. The old ceiling light was a rectangular flourescent type.  I had Eric replace that with track lighting.  It left a unmatched ceiling paint area.  I would've expected that Eric would've used some finish compound to match the texture and then paint that area of the ceiling.  Lastly I thought the bathroom remodel including painting the walls and ceiling.  It stands to reason that if a bathroom is being gutted wouldn't the finish product include freshly painted walls?  Maybe that is my fault for not making sure it was part of the original estimate.  All-in-all, this was a pleasant experience.  Landmark is reliable, honest and punctual.  I definitely give their quality and workmanship an A+.  I will use them again and I will recommend his services to all my friends.

DLOWE'S OF CROSSVILLE
I went to Lowe's and picked the door out, but they wouldn't let me purchase the door until one of their contractors came out to the house and measured and then I had to pay for him to come out to do the measurements of the door. We had to schedule and make a time for him to come and then I had to go back to Lowe's and pick out the door and the hardware and then we had to schedule another day. These are not employees of Lowe's but subcontractors that work for Lowe's and I was kind of like at the mercy of his schedule. The first time he called he said he would be there, but he didn't show up and he didn't call me. I had to call Lowe's back a couple of times and ask them where was my door because I paid for it and it wasn't here, so finally they showed up and he didn't have all the materials he needed. In the end Lowe's had sold me a quality product, but it was a mess just trying to get it all put in. I paid $35 for them to come out and measure for the door at Lowe's and then the second time I went there and bought this door and a storm door and also included in that fee was their labor to come out and put it in, so I basically paid them every time they came out here to put it in and it was kind of ridiculous and plus I was inconvenienced of my time. They did clean up their mess, but I guess what bothered me was that they were a subcontractor. I'm not a carpenter. I'm a registered nurse and they're the contractor, so I have to assume that they did it right. It works and closes and everything, but there were a couple of things that I seen and they told me that I didn't need to caulk or worry about it. The only follow-up was when Lowe's called up and asked if they installed the door. What bothered me was that there wasn't someone to come behind them that works for Lowe's to actually take a look at the door and say it met their standards and was put in correctly and that the contractor did a good job and provided a good service for us, but there was none of that. It was basically I bought the door from Lowe's and them and this contractor have a deal and basically that was it. The problem I'm having now is that the visual appearance of the door from the outside. There's a pressure treated board underneath my door seal and I don't know if it is supposed to be there or not because it wasn't on the other door, so my father-in-law who actually builds houses is going to come by my house during the holidays and look at my door. If something isn't right then I can call up Lowe's and tell them that they did it a certain way and it's really not acceptable according to industry standards because after they were gone they left the paperwork to the door. I sat there and started going through the paperwork and saw that they didn't do certain things like for example caulk a certain way it voids the warranty on the door. So now I'm going to get someone in here that I trust that is going to tell me if it was done right or no it wasn't. It could have resolved a whole lot of issues if someone would have just came behind them and said it was up to standards. They got people inside the store and a computer program in which they could sit there and within an hour have your cabinets all drawn up if you got your measurements and then give you an estimate. One thing I found very interesting is that I used them and they told me before they put the cabinets in they'll send someone out here and there would be a fee associated with that to measure the kitchen to make sure. I told them okay, but before I put the cabinets in I needed to put down a new tile floor in my kitchen and dining room and the man comes out and tells me that we are going to have to tear up the sub-floor because it's particle board because Lowe's will not warranty the workmanship if we're going to tile. I asked him could he use this other stuff that I read about and they told me no and that it has to be this type of backer-board and I'm like you got to be joking. So literally to put down the tile flooring for my kitchen and dining room is going to cost me more than the cabinets and I paid for that man to come out here to tell me that. I had to pay for him to come out and do the measurements and also pay for a piece of tile that I brought out here that I was supposed to show him that I wanted put down so he would know how to price me. It was a pain and if it wasn't for the fact that I hurt my back and was off work for eight or nine weeks I don't know how I would have been able to schedule for someone to be out here. I called two other contractors for the cabinets and they came at my convenience and they were nice and did what they said. They didn't charge me to come out and they have a better product and their prices were anywhere from $1,000 to $2,000 cheaper. In November I was trying to get some information, but then I felt kind of pressured because Lowe's told me that if I'm going to get all of these upgrades I need to make a decision. Well, I got all those upgrades and other people guaranteeing me that they'll build these all wood cabinets and put them in and install them and came out to my house with ideas. They also didn't look at a computer and were actually professionals and I'm tickled to death because one of those people I got off of Angie's List and he was awesome. With Lowe's you choose the cabinets and as much money as you want to spend because the cabinets are craft made, but they're just the distributor and not the manufacturer. When I called Lowe's and asked them about when the guy was going to show up to put my door in they faxed him instead of calling him and it was three days later before he called me.

DChampion Windows and Home Exteriors of Johnson City
I had Champion install new doors on my home, including a storm door on the front entrance. The doors were fine, the installation was satisfactory, although not perfect (the frame for the front door is a little crooked.) Within a year, the spring for the latch on the storm door failed. They replaced it under the warranty. In about another year it failed again. They again replaced it, but informed me that any further warranty calls would be charged a $75 service charge (this is in the written warranty). When the spring failed yet again, I asked them to just mail me one, which they did. It recently failed again. I called and asked them to mail me another one. About three weeks later I called back only to be told that: A) there was no record of my call, and B) there would be a $15 shipping charge. The spring is 5/8 inch long, and just over 1/8 inch diameter. Taped to the inside of a folded piece of light cardboard, it could be mailed in a standard envelope for the price of a single postage stamp. I did find suitable springs online, five for $6.39 -- including shipping. In addition, I was told by the sales people that the main entrance door hinges had ball bearings. One hinge started squeaking badly lately, and had to be lubricated. No other door in the house has ever had a squeak and had to be oiled, regardless of hinge type.
