Smoky Mountain Deck Builders LLC
Recent Review: Our experience with the Smoky Mountain Deck Builders has left us with an awesome finished product and many compliments from our family and friends. We met with Nick and told him our ideas. He took notes and then added some great suggestions. We wanted a fire pit in the middle and he worked with us on that. The Trex boards were put in at diagonals to the frame and borders. He helped us match the inlaid tiles under the fire pit area to an adjacent patio. Our old deck was 2 steps down from the patio. Nick and his crew were able to design a totally new deck that was raised up so that it was at the same level as the adjacent patio and even increased the total deck size. We had an iron railing that needed to be matched to make this all work so they had someone fabricate the new pieces. They even had someone design and build a door and a box under the Trex boards by our water faucet to hide our small hose. Everything came out like a perfect puzzle with every element matching and looking top notch!!!

Knoxville Decking Crew
Recent Review: After getting several quotes and then no follow ups, I was referred to Bob. He promptly returned my call and set an appointment to look at the work I wanted done. Bob patiently listened and made sure he understood what I wanted, he also made much appreciated suggestions. Bob then gave a quote for the completed job and the time frame. His crew and the material were on site as he promised and the completion was beyond my expectations. Bob's crew is friendly, professional and their work is amazing. I do have other projects that will need to be done and I will use Bob Baker/The Decking Crew for any future additions. These gentlemen do a great job and I would highly recommend them.

JC Wilson Cons
Recent Review: We had decided that the condition of our old wooden patio deck had gotten too dangerous for safe use.  Using Angie's List, we contacted two local contractors for bidding on the job, and we decided on J C Wilson Construction.  He gave us a time frame for the day and week that he could begin the work, and he showed up right on time at 8:00 with his work crew, and got right to the demolition of the old deck.  J C  pointed out some of the construction failures of the old deck construction which were primarily the lack of flashing for diverting water away from the house's wooden panel exterior.  Before starting the new deck framing, he and his crew installed heavy gauge flashing material at the deck/house interface, and sealed areas of possible water infiltration with caulking.  Existing telephone pole were evaluated, and J C replaced three with minimal additional material costs to us.  He's been in this business for 26 years, has other construction contacts who could provide savings on some materials (versus purchasing new), and make those savings available to customers.  He is all about keeping material and construction costs down while maintaining excellence in quality of work.  He met deck code requirements in a county which has relatively few on outside decks.  He and his crew were very meticulous in their construction efforts, making sure that rail post placements, baluster, and stairwells had spacing of equal measure.  Using near maximum cantilever beyond the vertical base supports, the crew added width to the original deck space, increasing square footage over the original deck's square footage.  J C would not allow loose fits or non-square cuts; he is dedicated to a high standard on quality of work, and this showed in the new deck's completion.  Beautiful, well-constructed, our new deck aesthetically pops. We couldn't be more pleased, and we would not hesitate using J C Wilson Construction for future projects.

Recent Review: Deckbuilders did a great job. Their responsiveness, attention to detail, work ethic (punctuality, quality of work, and respect for our property) was as promised. They got us into their schedule quickly, started and finished the work on time and cleaned up after themselves. Our new deck and pergola are beautiful and have added so much enjoyment to the time we spend outside. We would recommend them to anyone looking for a new deck.

Recent Review: They did a great job. When I call, they answer and the communication has been very good throughout the whole process. Any problems or delays we ran in to were handled well. I feel like I got my money's worth; it was a reasonable price for what they did. They did a lot of little extra stuff for me, too. I like them personally and they were nice people to deal with (it's a family operation).

Holmes Construction & Fence Co
Recent Review: The project went extremely smoothly and exceeded my expectations. Earl Holmes, the owner/contractor, had a crew of three who were all professional, diligent, and polite. They never came into my house for any reason (even though I assured them it was okay), and so I never had a muddy mess to clean up. Their workmanship was superior, taking extra care to build a very sturdy structure in order to hold the weight of a future screened-in or three-season porch. Not only were all building codes understood and met, the guys were also VERY conscientious of the asthetic details. That crew worked long and hard hours, and rarely took breaks other than lunch. Pride in their work was obvious. I have to admit that house projects can cause me a good bit of anxiety, and so I was greatly relieved and appreciative of Earl's considerate nature. When I approached him with last-minute design changes here and there, he was agreeable and patient, offered advice, and accommodated me every time. I HIGHLY recommend this company. I was even kind of sad to see them go! The company contact information: Holmes Construction and Fence Company Chattanooga, TN EARL HOLMES (423) 322-4989 CAPNEARL3@GMAIL.COM

Terrible!!!!!!! He did not remove the old siding, just the old slates. He put the new siding on top of the old. Now the wind blows into our walls and it is cold and drafty. The deck was built with crappy lumber and is falling apart in places. Deck was not anchored to the house properly. He is unreliable as to when he gets to the house and gets things done. His help is sketchy and I didn't feel safe with them around.

ASmoky Mountain Deck Builders LLC
PROs Prior to contacting Smoky Mountain Deck Builders (SMDB), I had obtained five estimates to have my old deck deconstructed and a new, improved deck built. All those estimates took weeks to obtain, and some even required reminders from me that I still was waiting for the estimate. Although I requested all estimates to include specific materials and labor estimates, all but one of the estimates consisted only of a single dollar amount, making it impossible to compare the estimates. After that, Nick, from SMDB, met with me and made a very professional presentation, presenting me with copies of his insurance, contractor's license, surety bond, and reference lists containing reference contact telephone numbers. He provided to me some better ideas for my deck project and, about an hour after his presentation, and even before leaving my residence, he provided a reasonable and detailed estimate of the materials and labor required for the project. Compared to my prior experiences, I was impressed. The construction crew was experienced, friendly, and professional, and they were very customer-service oriented. They worked hard every day they were on the job, even under trying weather conditions. The finished work product clearly revealed it was done by craftsmen who used quality materials and did not resort to any noticeable shortcuts. Their intent was to please the customer. Another small but important thing was that the crew cleaned up the work area very well each day after their work. Was my deck constructed perfectly? No. Did everyday go without any homeowner concern? No, of course not. However, I always was certain their efforts were directed to building the best deck they could in a way that also satisfied me, the customer. This is an honest company that does what it says it will do. CON If you are in a rush, this is not your company. Quality work takes longer and is in demand. Because of that, this company stays scheduled far in advance. However, In my opinion, the wait was well worth it.

His bid was under, but then we did a little extra stuff. We went with his bid. My husband seemed to get a warm fuzzy from him. He just sounded like he knew what the heck he was going to do. He is going to come back and fix some door jams for us. One thing I found a little funny was that why should he have to forward it; I had to get the dumpster. I learned a lesson you don't call on a Friday and want it on a Monday because that's just not kosher with them. That was kind of a hassle, but now I know that so it's no big deal. He's just a good ol' boy from Tennessee; I guess there's a lot of them around here that is just a good soul to the earth person. Just a good person. Easy to talk to and comfortable with him. He came up with extra ideas for a pergola thing at the corner. He built that up with no plans and it turned out great. And we had one little thing; can we put a wider board across here and no problem, he got that right up. It turned out well. The only thing that was weird using him was that I had to get the dumpster; he could have gotten the dumpster. That's the only thing.

We couldn?t be more pleased with Deckbuilders and Brian Snider.  Brian provided a lot of guidance and answered our questions, but was also very open to our ideas and listened to what we wanted.  The job started on schedule and he and his team stayed with it every day until it was completed.  Brian?s team is outstanding ? very professional, reliable, and highly skilled.  After the job was over there were a couple of minor items that needed some follow-up, and Deckbuilders didn?t hesitate to come back up and take care of them, even though we are more than hour outside of Huntsville.  I am very pleased with our awesome new deck and heartily recommend Deckbuilders.

First of all let me say I will use Landmark (Eric again). I appreciate the fact that he was on time and on schedule. He was very accommodating as I had to make changes as we went along due to price.  Eric was not the best priced bid that I had.  I was looking for an outfit that could do ALL my projects.  I got estimates from three different outfits.  Eric's was the most expensive however I decided to go with him based on Angie List reviews.  He seemed to have a lot of experience.  Which proved to be true as the project went along.  The bathroom was a total gut (with the exception of the tub).  I knew when I purchased the place that there was water damage.  It ended up being more extensive than originally thought and wet/mildew wood with leaking valve added $600 to the cost. The finished results were beautiful.  He fixed a water damaged ceiling and made it blend well.  Installed new vanity, toilet, tub surround and tile floor.  The other large project was the patio extension. I decided to go with cement since it was close to the same price as a wood deck and requires less maintenance.  It turned out great.  The wood railings and gate are beautiful.  The only other "major" project was the kitchen counters, new sink and backsplash.  Turned out great.  Then, there were a bunch of little projects such as replacing light fixtures, installing over-the-oven microwave, repairing ceiling fan, installing doggy door, storm door replacement, replacing the wood under kitchen sink.  He did a few things at no additional cost such as the dimmer switch for the dining room light and something with the electrical on the over-the-stove microwave. The only negatives is that there was one thing I thought he could've done at no additional cost. The old ceiling light was a rectangular flourescent type.  I had Eric replace that with track lighting.  It left a unmatched ceiling paint area.  I would've expected that Eric would've used some finish compound to match the texture and then paint that area of the ceiling.  Lastly I thought the bathroom remodel including painting the walls and ceiling.  It stands to reason that if a bathroom is being gutted wouldn't the finish product include freshly painted walls?  Maybe that is my fault for not making sure it was part of the original estimate.  All-in-all, this was a pleasant experience.  Landmark is reliable, honest and punctual.  I definitely give their quality and workmanship an A+.  I will use them again and I will recommend his services to all my friends.

APeter Andrews Remodeling Home & Yard Maintenance
I found this company an Angies List and contacted them by phone. They were professional and arrived at the appointed time. He took the information and called me back within 24 hours with an estimate for the work I wanted done. I had asked for an estimate to replace under pinning. He offered several options along with detailed discriptions of estimated work. We then talked about some other things I wanted to get done. He prepared an estimate to build a new deck and presure wash the entire building. The price was a little higher than I had expected but after seeing the quality of the work I am very satisfied. He also did extras after checking with me and did not increase the price of his estimate. He replaced siding where needed in two places. I had the siding and he used it to do needed repairs. My smoke alarm needed to be replaced and he ordered the part and fixed it. We had very bad weather but Peter and his employees continued to work through it all. What a great bunch of guys. They were with us over a week getting the job done. Peter made sure every thing was done right. He would not stop until the job was done to my satisfaction. I will be calling them for any additional work I may need to have done. I will recommend them to anyone. He is honest and has integrity beyond compare. I know if I call Peter he will do what needs to be done. May God bless Peter Andrews and his crew.
