Recent Review: Mike and Mike arrived on time and were very professional. They listened to what I needed and followed through. They both listened to and answered any questions I had. They used the shoe booties to protect my floors which was nice. Young Mike (the son) took a look at our non vented gas fireplace and helped get it lit and verified it was safe to use. He felt he really didn't do anything so he did not charge me for the fireplace. Mike (the Dad) worked on checking on each furnace. He found a problem with one of our thermostats and suggested the correct type for our furnace. He also recommended a filter. I was very pleased that they came out the same day I called for service. The special they had going ($89 per unit for service), the fact this company does background checks, drug testing etc so they know who they are sending into your home along with the same day service made them my number one choice. I have seen other winter tune up specials which are less which is why I only gave a B on price however I feel it was a fair price. The company has a Comfort Club which is a plan that keeps your service fees down. It seemed like a good deal but we had already renewed our home warranty. It is a sales pitch but I'm sure if you are not interested in a plan you could tell them and they would not push it.

Recent Review: Our 2 year old Peterson gas fire logs turned off suddenly and would not light.  The company that originally installed these logs were backlogged and has yet to return my call to schedule a service.  After finding Coopertown on www.csia.org - Chimney Safety Institute of America and reviewing Angie's List and the company website, I decided to give them a call.  The receptionist was very professional, upbeat and immediately took my contact information to have a service tech call and troubleshoot the problem over the phone before initiating a service call.  Ken called immediately and mentioned that with the holidays they were backed up and wanted to make sure I had a fire.  He began walking me through lighting the pilot and then the logs.  They would not light.  I replaced the batteries in the remote control sensor unit.  The logs would still not light.  Ken wanted me to check for debris, cobwebs or dust over the oxygen intake valve.  This required me to turn off the pilot, wait for the area to cool down and remove the logs which I was willing to do.  Ken asked that I call him back with any questions at anytime. I took a picture of the log set and carefully began removing the logs being careful and placed them in front of me in the same way.  They are like a puzzle and only fit in their designed groves and notches, so it was very easy to remove and reset.  With the pilot off, fireplace cooled and a flashlight in hand, I could see lint and dust debris covering the intake valve just behind the pilot house.  I carefully took my vacuum cleaner and cleaned off the area in and around the oxygen intake valve.  I carefully reset the logs, started the pilot and it did not start.  I called the company back who informed me that Ken was out and would call me back shortly.  He called back in less than 15 minutes.  Ken walked me through the lighting procedure one more time and presto... the fireplace started.  He asked me to be sure that no flames were contacting the logs after they were reset. During areas of troubleshooting, Ken took the time to explain how the sensor worked and the safety features to be aware of with a gas fireplace including cracking the damper on our ventless logs, proper ventilation and even the dangers of combustion from chemicals in new carpets, floors or drapes. I will call Coopertown in the future for any fireplace cleaning, repair and inspection.  I am very pleased with the prompt, courteous, professional and patience of the receptionist and Ken.

Recent Review: I called today to schedule a future appointment, BUT they were able to come immediately to serve me. That, alone, was amazing. Brian Hanski arrived a short time later and immediately examined my fireplace. He determined, quickly, that the system was functioning well, albeit needed a slight cleaning around the thermo-couple. He did the cleaning, and then discovered that the wall switch was no longer properly activating the system. When he removed the wall switch, he was able to demonstrate to me that by touching the connection wires together (i.e. completing the circuit), the system would activate normally. All that was needed was a new wall switch, which he installed. After the repair, Brian took the time to advise me about how to keep the thermo-couple clean, and he also advised me further about the proper placement of the and quot;fakeand quot; logs relative to the flame/burner areas. I am very, very pleased with the service and the price, and to see them respond so promptly today was a great and quot;added valueand quot; item. I highly recommend Southern Hearth for fireplace needs and service.

1) - cleaned fireplace logs with a brush, (I've done myself before) and told me that there is no adjustment needed, just clean logs regularly. (This is incorrect, used the fireplace only 1 time since then and logs are COVERED with ash/soot again - didn't used to happen in the first 5 years...) Charge: $69 for house call/cleaning of logs (did nothing to fix the problem). 2) identified the problem for the wet wall, repaired (replaced) a section of pipe with a hole in it. ($250 - original $69 house call for fireplace, plus tax). Follow-up phone call offering an annual maintenance service for furnace inspection for only $235(?) PER UNIT. When I did call (about 3-4 weeks later, Nov '17, the person I spoke with was unavailable, I left my name and phone number for her to return my call, never heard back - didn't bother calling again if they weren't interested in my business.)

This was a great experience.  We called and scheduled an appointment.  They were able to come out a day earlier than scheduled and called to make sure it was ok.  They showed us how to use the gas fireplace (we have never used one before) and gave us recommendations on things we may want to replace in the future.  Overall, everything worked out exceptionally well.
