Business Description: Hartland Roofing has been a one-man operation since it's beginning in Lexington, SC in 2005. Wow! Really? How can 1 guy put a roof on by himself? Well, it ain't easy BUT I assure you...it CAN be done and done right! At times, when the job is actually too big for one guy, I do have sub-contractors who come in to help. But, unlike many other roofing companies who "sell" the job, leave the job to unsupervised subs and then show up to collect a check, I am there from start to finish. Because I take a great deal of pride in paying attention to detail my subs are supervised by none other than me. Whether it's just me or the crew of subs I hire to help, you can "rest assured" knowing that your roofing project was completed with great care and done according to the shingle manufacturer's specifications. During the past 7 years serving my customers in the Midlands I have done everything from replacing one shingle that has blown off the roof to replacing the entire roof. One of my specialties is repair work. Whether it's replacing one shingle, a worn pipe boot, flashing that was improperly installed or failing, chasing down a leak - no job is TOO small. Have you ever hired a roofer to diagnose and fix a leak? He shows up with his caulking gun, caulks the leak area, charges you a couple hundred bucks and leaves. A week later it rains cats and dogs and your leak is gone! You are so excited that he took care of your leak until it rains a couple of months later and the leak is back! You call the roofer to tell him your roof is leaking again and he says he will be right over. Up again he goes with caulking gun in hand, comes down and tells you the leak is from a different source and says "that'll be $200 please". Again, you think your leak is taken care of because the next time it rains you don't notice that nagging drip, drip, drip. Well, of course, another month or two passes and sure enough the leak is back! You call "the guy with the caulking gun" because in your frustration that's what he has become..."the guy with the caulking gun". Only this time, he doesn't answer. So, you leave a message...and another...and another. This has been the experience of many folks who have become my customers. AND, sa my customers will attest...I answer my phone! And if by chance, I am unavoidably detained and you do have to leave a message...I DO return phone calls. If your tired of the "caulking gun guy" then I promise if I do show up with my caulking gun you can know that I also own other tools that are quite useful in genuinely repairing your problem the first time. I offer free estimates for all of your roofing projects. I also provide other services including roof cleaning, gutter cleaning, vinyl siding repair and have a network of other like-minded individuals who assist me with many other "around-the-house" services. So, I would be glad to hear from any prospective customer who is interested in having the job done right the first time!

Recent Review: We hired Najera and his team to paint the exterior (trim, front porch, shutters, doors included) of our home. They properly prepped all the surfaces (power washed with bleach, sanded, caulked, primed then painted.). They also replaced our back stoop. We would definitely hire them again. Najera is very kind and honest.

Recent Review: For over ten years we have hired Palmetto Decorators for all of our exterior and interior needs. We can't say enough about how good this company is! Ralph Whalen and his wife JoAnn promptly respond to phone calls and submit written estimates that accurately show the cost of the job. Our charges have never varied from the estimate. An estimate from Palmetto Decorators will probably not be the lowest one you will receive, but you definitely get high quality work and attention to detail. We asked them to use high gloss paint on our interior trim and they did a beautiful job! Their painters are always neat, honest, friendly, and particular about their work. The most recent job cited above was no exception. Pressure washing was carefully done to avoid water leakage into our home. Sufficient time was devoted to carpentry work and prep work. After completion of the exterior painting, the house was carefully inspected in our presence to confirm that the work met our expectations. We will continue to call on Palmetto Decorators, because we know that we can count on a professional job every time and a positive experience from start to finish.

Recent Review: The owner of The Improvement Co,, Dan, replyed quickly to our request for an estimate to replace our cracked vinyl trim. Dan came out within a few days of contacting me, was very professional, and provided a fair estimate to have the work completed.  To our surprise, the work was then completed by his crew a few days later.  The crew members were extremely knowledgeable and effecient.  While replacing our cracked vinyl trim, the crew discovered that we had an entire section of vinyl siding on our home that had not been installed correctly by the original contractor and was too short.  This was potentially allowing water damage for our home.  I was able to speak to Dan for another estimate within a few days and get a second quote to have the section of siding replaced. Again, the quote was quite reasonable and the work was completed a few days later.  The crew did amazing work and the siding looks fantastic. If we need services completed on our home in the future, this will be the first company I call for an estimate.

Recent Review: Clay Stewart's quality of work is he is a perfectionist. All work is performed by Clay. Everything he does is of the highest quality. He went far above and beyond what I expected. I had absolutely no complaints or suggestions for improvement. Not even any nit-picking complaints. Price was dead-on with estimate. Clay did not request any payment, not even for large expenditures for materials, until the job was complete and met my approval. Clay does great work and is a really a nice, trustworthy guy who is a pleasure to be around. I was very comfortable leaving him alone in my home.

ACAPITAL CONSTRUCTION LLC
This was an excellent experience for us. We knew that a project of this size would be very disruptive to our household and were prepared to be as flexible as possible to make sure we did not get in the way of the work being done and make it take longer than necessary. What we found was the Capital Construction work crews went out of their way to make sure we were disrupted as little as possible. Whenever we showed up during the day someone would stop work to tell us what was going on and answer any questions we had. At the end of each day any tools, supplies or materials were gathered up and put somewhere as much out of our way as possible. Every day when we came home all of the trash and debris from whatever work was done was hauled to the dumpster or piled out of the way to be taken away later. Everyone who worked on this project was skilled and cared about their work. As with any project of this size there were a few problems along the way but they were there to take care of it immediately and without complaint - including one Sunday and a holiday! They took the time to make suggestions and help us make decisions so that we were sure to be happy with the end result - and we are delighted. It feels almost as if we have a brand new house now and we're proud to show it off whenever we get the chance. We highly recommend Roy and his crews to anyone needing this kind of service. As far as we're concerned - they are the best!

Don't-ask him or anyone else to do an estimate after work hours. This is where mistakes in estimating the amount of tile/bull nose tile needed were made. I think he was in a hurry to get it done and leave that evening. As a nurse it is difficult for me to get off work for anything other than illness and vacation planned. My supervisor is very strict because as many places we are always short staffed. But next time I need an estimate in my house I will just insist to be off during working hours. The estimate of tile needed was off because I needed 100 sq ft of tile, and only had purchased 96sqft. Still it would have made me purchase 108sqft, that's my fault. However, the bull nose estimate was wrong, and I had to re order twice, along with one time I had to reorder the rustic white tile. I did ask before the work started twice through email to his wife, Deb, could he come back to discuss tile some more. I was put off from his wife, who said he didn't need to do that. For him or any other contractor, pick out your tile before he even comes over, purchase a piece of bull nose tile if you can. The bull nose is very expensive compared to the tile cost. There was another thing which had to do with the pedestal sink of which I was told by her he would discuss w/me. I am like all of us, busy going all the time between work and home and forgot to ask him until the last day. Had I not remembered to ask him, he would have had to do it all over. My point is I understand his wife is necessary to shield/filter daily questions to him, but there comes a point that he and the customer need to talk for all those little details you have as the work goes along. The work he and his workers did was top notch. The painting was excellent. But you have to insist on them using a separate primer. this is what you want, not one in the paint only.  There is only one area I am disappointed in. The BR closet door. Initially I thought it looked great. However, during the work, I noticed this unpainted door he had already put in place as we discussed. We were leaving the door solid, cut down the middle w/drawers pull on both sides. You then open the door as half a door-two each. This provides more room in the BR rather than using a full door to pull out from BR closet. The workers and he kept telling me this was just for an estimate of what he would need to cut a door to size. You see there was a big hole in the wood where traditionally a regular door knob would go to open a full door. I did not realize it until weeks after they left, they had kept that same door I was told which was there just for sizing. The problem is they apparently took the round hole of wood, stuck it back in, sealed it or something so it would stay and painted over it. This irks me. It's a typical contractor trick. He already has the door prior to your job, your estimate supposedly includes a new door, and he uses this one. Had he discussed it w/me I would have either said-well okay, but flip it to where that hole piece is in the corner part of the wall-where no one will notice it much or get me a new door like we discussed. As it is you can see the outline of the hole which is painted over. They clean well. The workers are very courteous. I would use him again. He is licensed and bonded, you can look him up on the SC Laobr/Licensing. This to me is important. I don't want who is the cheapest, I want who is good, fair and not to pay if his workers gets hurt.
