1) We had a leaky chimney, it had been slowly leaking into our ceiling for a while and we didn't know why. In February 2014, we contacted Decker Home Repairs. Jamie came out and gave us a quote to take off all the siding from the chimney and re-wrap it to keep the water out. We hadn't been able to find anyone else who would even go up on our roof, so we signed up and set the date. 2) On the date they were supposed to come out, two guys who weren't Jamie came out, got up on the roof, took off all the existing siding from the chimney leaving the boards exposed, let all the nails fall into our yard, left for lunch, and never came back. At around 5pm, I called Jamie to ask what happened since a big storm was coming, and Jamie was obviously upset at what the guys had done. He came over immediately and wrapped the chimney with asphalt wrap and picked up the nails. It rained that night and we didn't have a leak, so it appeared to be fine. 3) The next day, another guy, also not Jamie, came and re-installed the siding over the wrap, and did a fine job. I paid them and thought we were done. 4) In August, we had a gigantic rain storm. At 3am, I woke up to the sound of rain dripping through the ceiling down to the mantle and floor. I e-mailed Jamie that morning, and went up on the roof myself to see why it was dripping. I saw that the water, instead of dripping off the crown of the chimney to the roof, was actually running back under the crown and behind the siding they had installed. I told Jamie this was my theory, and when he came out the next day he confirmed it was the problem. 5) Jamie installed flashing on the crown to make sure the water drips off instead of sliding back under. We've had a couple big rains since then and the attic is so dry it's dusty, so I'm 100% confident Jamie fixed the problem for good. I gave them a C for professionalism because of the first guys that came out, they left the chimney exposed and threw nails in the yard that are dangerous for my kids and wife. Jamie told me he's never using them again. I put B overall because of the same issue and I think things go better overall when Jamie comes out himself instead of sending someone else. I put A for price because apart from Jamie, I couldn't even get anyone else to go up there and figure out the issue, much less fix it. Overall, I want to say that: A) I would hire him again. B) He does quality work himself, and he's a very pleasant guy to deal with. C) The leaky chimney issue is fixed, and in the end that's all I wanted anyway D) When he says he has a one-year warranty on his work, he means it. Six months after he did the job, I had an issue with it, and he came over the next day and made it right. The only recommendation I have for someone hiring his company is to ask how much he's going to be involved personally. As long as he's doing the work or there to make sure it's done right, everything goes well. I hope I was accurate and fair in my review.
