Recent Review: My wife decided we needed a swimming pool. I called around and met with several pool builders, described what we wanted and obtained estimates. Upon the urging of my wife's co-worker, we called Calypso Pools. The owner came out and listed to what I wanted, described several scenarios for me and gave me an estimate. He sat down and helped draw out our thoughts at the inital meeting. This was great because we now had a visual idea of the layout instead of just the mental one. The estimate was about $8,000.00 less than the next best estimate for what we wanted. Needless to say, what we wanted on day one changed as we got closer to financing approval (and thus contract signing). He came back out, resorted the layout to accomodate the change from our original idea of a gunite pool to a much larger vinyl pool. Contract signing day came and the estimate was right on the money. He was more than pleased to allow me to sub out tree removal and the concrete myself. Constuction started within one week of signing and the pool was dug, and liner install and filled with water within two weeks. Absolutely amazing. The worst part of the process was the 3 weeks of waiting for the compacting of the dirt around the pool. The dirt really has to settle before any concrete can be poured. I do wish they had expressed this more clearly in the beginning that this was not a delay on the behalf of the builder; it is a necessary part of the construction process. This was really, really tough as we got tired of traipsing across the carboard from the porch to the pool. Patience is not one of my strong suits. I read the other review and I am on the opposite side from them. I had great communication with the company. I did experience the voicemail being full twice but that was easy enough to endure as I also emailed him and got an immediate response. I do have to take a point or two off punctuality. In all fairness, it was not the builder who was not punctual (he has always been there when he said he would), it was the subcontractors for tile and for the backfill. I recognize that builders do not employ a large staff to do the work, they hire out specialists to do portions of the job. After one sub failed to show two days in a row, my angry phone call to the builder resulted in an immediate follow-up and the work was done the next day. I can not begin to say how much I hated spending the money but enjoyed working with the builder and absolutely love our new backyard oasis. Recent Review: They were excellent. It was right on par with what they said it was going to be, they used quite a little time for buying supplies before they actually finished that part of the work, which was very impressive. Everybody was very polite and clean, they didn't use harsh language, and they were a very upstanding company. I would definitely recommend them to anybody. I went with them because of their reputation, I probably could have found somebody less expensive, but they had the best reputation, and I also knew about them from other sources.

APrestige Pools Of Columbia Inc
Initially the company repaired and replaced the swimming pool pump for us. Several months later they helped us select a new vinyl liner for the pool and installed it for us. When a pipe began to leak, they came up and replaced it without charge.

Everything was perfect.  The quality was excellent, the price was the lowest bid I received, and they offered to monitor the system for a year when no one else would.  My swimming pool is the clearest it has been in 20 years!

DLESLIE'S SWIMMING POOL SUPPLIES
As a new homeowner with a swimming pool, I went to Leslie's for some advice on pool maintenance.  I advised the technician that I was a first-time owner of a swimming pool and needed his advice on maintaning the pool myself.  He assured me they would assit me and guide me through the process.  He gave me a bottle to gather water from the pool for testing.  When I brought the water back, he tested it and shared the results, but then commenced to show me the most expensive items in the store, including the most expensive machine for vacumming.  I had to ask about less expensive options, which he reluctantly showed me.  I felt exploited!  Leslie's is off my list of trusted vendors of pool supplies.  They seem only interested in selling you expensive items that you may or may not need.  I got little or no advice from them on actually maintaining the pool, althought no one else was in the store at the time.  To bad as I value a vendor I can trust to sell me only what I need.  Leslie's lost a potential lifetime customer.

FGriffin Pools and Spas
9-18-14 Griffin Pools came to our home and agreed to install a swimming pool. I had researched this business to make sure they were licensed & bonded with no judgments against them. I ask the salesman Rick Potter if background checks were made & he said yes. No one with a conviction would be allowed on our property. We agreed & Griffin started the process. The salesman told me and wrote on our contract to call "Bobby" Caughman  (James Robert Caughman)  of Lexington SC and he would come out to look at the job to do the finish work. Also another Griffin worker Brian, pool installer supervisor, told me to call "Bobby". After now being endorsed by two Griffin Pool representatives, this led me to believe that "Bobby" was a preferred contractor of Griffin Pools. I called "Bobby" and he came out and gathered the requirements, made recommendations and a high-level cost.  Asked again about his relationship with Griffin Pools, he stated that they use him ALL the time to complete their work so that they can focus on installing pools, their main area of expertise.  I told him to go ahead and do the work. Bobby requested a $5000 deposit of 13,700 job, which we gave to him. Block arrived at our house a few days later and work started as Griffin dug our pool. When the Griffin portion of the concrete was poured on Tue, Bobby came by and said the rest of the concrete would be poured on that Friday, but.........he needed more money. We gave him another $3775. No concrete came on that Friday, 10-24-14, nor any day after that. The wall wasn't finished. The proper foundation wasn't placed, no drain, wrong type of stone, improper sealant, and stones not overlapped. Four contractors have told us the wall is unsafe, unrepairable and had to be removed. A constructional engineer told us that all of the above and it was devaluing to our home as well. Bobby walked away from this job, no further work and $8775 of our money that we are making monthly payments on.  Bobby then sent us an "updated" bogus bill of the $9000 dollars of work that he had done( which was totally made up charges). I have contacted Griffin pools many times and they claim no responsibility. We learned that Bobby has a criminal record and someone that we would have never been allowed on our property. Now Griffin Pool manager Rob Bowers states that they have no affiliation with Bobby Caughman and would not do anything to help us. I have two forms of documentation to prove that Griffin pool asked us to call this man to do the required finish work. One on the estimate of pool installation costs and the other an email from the salesman Rick Potter. I would gladly produce copies of either document. Customers beware! I spent over 35,000.00 dollars with Griffin Pools and now they claim no responsibility. I have a huge mess in my back yard, thousands of dollars to repair it, torn up irrigation system, engineering fees and $8775 our of our pocket.

AWATERWORKS POOLS & SPAS
I called this company to ask if they could help me clean my pool. They came over the next day and did a great job of testing the water, adding chemicals, adding water, and cleaning the pool. The owner of the company is great about calling me if there are any problems or suggestions.

They were the lowest of three bids for the job, but there was only a $300 difference from the highest bidder. I went with Brian and Jan because they had a down home kind of feel to them. I ended up getting an upgrade in the material. The fit is perfect. The all important prep work was well done. There were inevitable delays so the job was finished about two weeks late. In April I was in no great hurry, but I would have appreciated a little more communication. That is probably the only real fault I can find.
