Recent Review: John Altenburg impressed us as outstanding remodeler and he lived up to this impression. He performed essentially all the remodeling work over a period from the end of October through the first week of January. We felt entirely comfortable leaving the house in his hands to complete the described remodeling project. The painting turned out to be beautiful. John contacted us re a color change for the master bedroom and we accepted his advice and that turned out to be a perfect choice. The removal of the old popcorn ceilings made a huge difference in the looks of each room. The new laminate counter tops for the kitchen also turned out beautifully. As indicated above, the bathtub repairs were subcontracted to Surface Specialists of Charleston owned by Wes Colerider. They did an outstanding job of installing acrylic tubs replacing the cracked fiberglass bathtubs. The new interior and exterior lighting look great. All the other items of the project were completed with excellent results. Some of this work was done in our presence during the period of Jan. 3 to Jan. 8th. Please note , the B rating on punctuality is honest but there is an extenuating circumstance, John was overcoming a respiratory infection and several days he needed to rest up in the morning before attempting to work. In summary we have the highest praise for John?s remodeling abilities and his outstanding attention to details. We look forward to a continual relationship with him as the need arises.

Recent Review: Well I searched and "interviewed" about 5 contractors had each one come out and give me a estimate. The one contractor that I considered went above and beyond sat down with me went through everything and was very professional was First Team Construction. Mr. Johnson was so up to date and professional that I chose them. The best decision I ever made! Mr. Johnson advised me the job would take approximately 12 weeks, they were completed in just 9 weeks!!!!! I chose Merillat cabinets for my kitchen stainless steel appliances and solid surface counter tops. Mr. Johnson kept us informed every step of the way. At one point during our project, and at the very last minute( as in 30 minutes prior to starting ) I requested a change in color in the kitchen, Mr. Johnson said no problem and picked the color up we chose. First Team Constructions whole staff are wonderful, professional, eager to help and all go above and beyond to make sure there customer is happy. Mr. Johnson would call through out the duration and ask if we were pleased and if there is anything he or his staff could do, and if we did have a problem he would correct it. The project turned out great, my neighbors hired First Team Construction to remodel there kitchen. I would recommend them to everyone. Keep up the great work.

Reviews in Awendaw to Remodel Master Bedroom

AConnolly's Bath & Tile Works
Our master bedroom bathroom needed some serious TLC. Our home is close to 40 yrs old and in various states of renovation. My husband and I tried various things to update the bathrooms but lets face it, when you know just enough to be dangerous, it doesn't go well. We decided to contact the professionals and get everything done right. We were on a budget and we were able to stay within our budget thanks to Connelly's. After picking out our colors with the help of a very knowledgable young lady and having all our questions satisfied, we paid the first 1/3 of the total price up front. We had the week picked out for the employees to arrive, as well as being given general information as to what would happen each day and what. was expected from their employees. The employees arrived on time on the 23 of September, with a young man named Sam leading the group. The first two days were taken up with stripping the entire bathroom, leaving only the skeletal frame and concrete floor. Sam and the other young man with him did a good job trying to keep the dust down. What dust that did accumalate was not a big deal...nothing a normal cleaning would not take care of. The only thing I needed to do was sweep the hallway each evening and again, it's something that gets done anyway, so it was not a big deal to me. They worked upgrading the water lines in the bathroon in order to match the plumbing accessories and added or subtracted wood to level the walls in order to set up the sheetrock correctly. In older homes, not everything is square or rectangular anymore due to the settlement of the house. They did a great job leveling the room and painting the ceiling. The sheetrock went up and then came all the measuring and cutting of the tile. We paid to have the entire bathroom tiled and it was not an easy job, but Sam and Sean did a great job. If I remember correctly, there were two more men working on this project, but I did not get their names. I was pleased with the work of all involved. I have a new respect for those who install tile...wow! It is by no means an easy job. I was also glad that the field supervisor Ron came to check on them frequently, making sure I was happy with the results so far. If there were any questions about what would go where (towel rack, shower head, etc.), I was always asked where I wanted it, how high I wanted it, etc. If there was a problem with what I wanted, it was explained to me in terms I understood, why it couldn't be done, and we worked on where the best place would be. The job was supposed to be done on the 27th of Sept but it took one more day to complete the tile work and get everything cleaned up. The sink itself was lovely but needed to be sanded down on the right side. Amanda worked with me to get a man who worked with marble to sand it down. We were thinking it would take a week due to the gentleman's busy schedule. On October the 11, I was surprised by a call from him stating he was coming through the area and asking if I had time for him to complete the work. He did a wonderful job. All in all, it's a lot of work for the employees as well as the customer. The field supervisor - Ron - came to inspect the work after everything was completed and the rest of the amount due was paid after he was assured I was satisfied. The thing I was most pleased about had nothing to do with the job: we have a little bulldog named Molly and I had to keep her confined to the living room so she would not be under foot during the work. Each employee as well as the field supervisor got to know her and every morning when they came to start the work day and every evening when they left for the day, Molly got lots of hugs and pats and attention. She loved it! Thanks guys for being so kind to my furry "baby." Now, we have a beautiful, easy to care for bathroom. Sam, Sean, Ron and the rest of the crew did excellent work and we appreciate the results!

AApex Contractors LLC
Paul and Nick are amazing.  We were thoroughly pleased with not only the beautiful work they did, but their dedication, professionalism and collaboration on this job.  From the start, they were clean, responsive, and involved us in all decisionmaking every step of the way.  I find that with remodels, there are often hiccups and delays and this really didn't have any.  We had very, very, minor issues and none were because of Apex.   They completely gutted our master bathroom, which included removing a wall and small closet.  It was falling apart to say the least.  We had cracked tile, a corroding tub, rot and water damage behind our shower walls, an uneven floor and the list goes on! Our master bedroom also had an "interesting" tile border and carpet center, which they took up so that we could lay carpet to match the other bedrooms in our house.  They laid all new tile(floors, shower, and sink backsplash), converted the bathtub area to a shower, added new plumbing for a double vanity, added french doors to the bathroom (where no doors existed before), created a larger door opening to the linen closet, and installed fixtures, lighting etc.  Paul and Nick not only performed this work efficiently and skillfully(in less than 3 weeks!), but also had great insight on design choices, as we were first-timers to a major renovation like this.   They also englarged the openings to closets in our two other bedrooms.  These closets are a really nice size, but you couldn't tell because they had a traditional single door on them.  They opened these up to 60" and added bifolds/french doors in those rooms. The closets are so much more usable now and look as big as they are.  Their pricing was also very competitive and the best quote we received.  They stayed on budget and schedule.  Can't recommend these guys enough!

ACommonwealth Contracting LLC
Before ultimately contracting with Mike at Commonwealth Contracting, I contacted several general contractors and was frankly amazed at either the lack of responsiveness or follow-up. I experienced the following situations: - Two other contractors showed up to do an initial walk-through only to tell me that my job was too small. Really? A $35,000 job is too small? - One contractor did a walk through and promised that my job was not too small - he had "children to put through college" - only to never call me back with an estimate. Mike and Commonwealth Contracting showed up, provided a timely estimate, and was willing to work with us on a number of things (e.g., we wanted to provide some of our own ceramic tile, bathroom fixtures and hardware, etc). Mike promised a start date of 4 weeks after we agreed to the contract and his team showed up at the appointed time to begin work. The work took approximately 5 weeks and Mike's team was on site almost every weekday; and a couple of Saturdays. His team was always professional, polite, and appreciative (my wife fed them lunch a few days).  They were careful, relative to the rest of the house, as they completed extensive demolition and renovation. We had only a handful of issues during the remodeling - should be expected in any work of this nature - and Mike always took care of it. I would contract with Mike and Commonwealth Contracting on future jobs.

AElk Creek Enterprises
Elk Creek Enterprise did a great job on our bathroom! We completely gutted our old bathroom, so we could start from scratch. Our bathroom was still a small space, but they helped us to use our space most efficiently. They completed the job in a reasonable timeframe and kept us updated as needed. We are very happy with the finished product and would recommend them for any remodeling needs in the future.

ACharleston Remodeling Inc
After 8 years of waiting we were finally able to expand our home which we originally planned to do when we purchased our home. We spoke with other contractors but once we spoke with Mark with Charleston Remodeling he made the construction process more understandable and spoke with us on a personal level. He explained step by step each process of the remodel. He made us feel comfortable and we knew we had chosen the right contractor. His crew: Andy, Allen, Jamie, and Johnny were always professional, polite, on time, understanding, and did an excellent job to give us our dream addition that we had been hoping for the past 8 years. They paid close attention to detail and always involved us in the process. We were very indecisive on choosing flooring, fixtures, tile, etc. but Mark and his crew never pressured us into making a quick decision. They offered suggestions and put us on the right path to what we were looking for.

Apex Contractors did an outstanding job on our new home. The interior was completely redesigned. The exterior was updated with a large front porch. We also added a 1/2 bath, master bath, and master bedroom. Paul and crew were always professional. Apex worked very hard to keep this project within our time frame and budget. We would recommend Apex to anyone looking to update their home! Pictures coming soon

ASteves Service
Steve's Service provided excellent service and work on our master bedroom suite addition. He was prompt always and completely professional.  His work was great quality and his pricing was absolutely fair. HIs technical knowledge was very good and he helped us save money with better ideas. I would use him again and will only call him for any other work I need to hire out. I do a lot of remodel work myself so I can recognize a great contractor when I see one. Steve is one for sure. Thanks, Brian B.

After calling AHS, a home visit was quickly arranged to discuss the project in detail and provide an estimate. David listened to exactly what I was looking for and took notes. A competitive quote was received within several business days and based on David's knowledge, expertise and confidence in the project, I chose AHS. David and his team arrived promptly as scheduled and completed the work in 1 day. They assisted us in moving furniture to the center of the room (thank you!) and went over the project details again to confirm. The team was very tidy and professional. A day after the project completed, my husband and I noticed that the crown molding paint was a darker white than our existing trim. We also noticed some spots on the crown that needed caulk touch ups. We contacted David and he was wonderfully responsive to our request and agreed to fix it as soon as the schedule allowed. One week later, the painting team returned to repaint every inch of crown molding installed and touch up the caulk. The crown now matches and looks impeccable! We are thrilled with all the work the team carefully completed and most thankful to David for providing superior customer service and ensuring the job was done on time and met our expectations. Thank you, AHS! I will definitely be using you in the future.
