AGILROY NORTHEAST INC.
Lois and John Gilroy and Sue Obaza are fantastic to work with. Communication was clear and steady, and everybody always showed up on time. Most importantly, the on-site team delivered top-quality craftsmanship and labor. Gilroy is probably not the least expensive option for excavating and other construction projects, but they are worth every penny.

AWilliam H. Veech Contracting
Went very well. I want to give him a lot of credit for preparing plans and having to deal with town supervisor. Satisfied all requirements of this supervisor. Communicates very well and ahead of time. Reliable and honest. Very comfortable recommending him to others. Pleasant to interact with. Mr. Veech is insured. He does "light" excavation work and he was and is very professional in his work. His reliability, punctuality, and willingness to stand behind his work are proof of his professionalism.

I chose this contractor based on a recommendation from a friend, who I later found out was a close friend of this contractor. The first job went ok, a little rough getting things scheduled, work in writing, commitment to dates, etc. but the job was completed. The second (a more costly job) was a challenge from the beginning. In the end the job was not completed as originally agreed and yet he continued  to bill me for work not completed and refused to come out and complete the job. He even went as far as putting a lien on the property! I had to either hire others to complete the work or in some cases got help from friends and family to complete it. After acquiring the services of a lawyer the charges for the incomplete work were disregarded. What a sleazy way to operate! My suggestions to everyone, avoid this contractor at all cost!

BGILROY NORTHEAST INC.
The project started off well. Gilroy was quick to provide a quote and quick to start. They completed the job on time. I would make sure to have drawings so that there is no mis-communication on scope of work as with any project, there can be differences in what is expected. Gilroy was not willing to make many compromises even if it was with a change order. The professionalism went down-hill as the project wrapped up. Too bad as I was hoping to use them again.

I met Tim Jones after a neighbor recommended him to me. Tim and I spoke over several months about the challenges of the prior driveway/stairway setup and discussed a number of conceptual alternatives. TIm is very creative and has a good sense of perspective in terms of what will work or not (recognize we were working within a relatively small footprint, on a steep slope, trying to create a design that would make the house more easily accessible from your car, yet not make the driveway impossible to trek). I was tryng to not just solve the functionailty challenges, but wanted the area to also be attractive, since it was the entry to our lakehome and property. Tim listened and understood what appealed to me and what did not. He developed the perfect combination of utility and aesthetics for the project. He designed the layout and recommended the type of stone to use. I liked it so much that I actually expanded the project to include a sideyard staircase that encompassed the same natural stone in an additional sweeping stairpath. TIm and his very capable son, Ryan (who works an excavator with the dexterity other young men can only hope to demonstrate on a video game joystick) work very well together. Their pride in their work is evidenced by their willingness to keep moving boulders until they not only serve their physical objective, but look "naturally" placed. I also had Tim do the plantings (small evergreens and shrubs) in the area. The end result looks great. From a project timeline perspective, the work took about 5 weeks, slightly longer than planned, but we did expand the project and there were some unanticipated site conditions (an underground spring) that had to be dealt with. Cost-wise, Tim doesn't like surprizes and didn't delivery any. He quoted a price up front, kept me abreast of any changes as a result of scope changes, and billed me as agreed upon. Overall it was an excellant experience, and I am planning on engaging Tim and Ryan on another project.

FPRIA Landscaping
We came home to see disarray of the back yard.... The paid contractor Pria did cut  up a fallen tree and remove stumps and left his machinery in our back yard which was used to do so. There was dirt and tread marks 3/4 of the yard, and even though our observation was at night and with a flash light it was clear there was a bit of ruins to get this work done that we were not prepared for. The problem- We had questions which we can say in all fairness- we should have brought out in the beginning in terms of how does the process works and how messy is this kind of job. Unfortunately, our questions came after, but by all means whether beginning or end we the paying customer have every right to ask a question. Rob who is associated with Pria as the owner or son- not sure of his title- well whoever this character is, he didn't feel we had the right to question his work on why the yard looked the way it looked... Pro- He filled the holes which we were going to make arrangement to do ourselves, and we appreciate that, but this was not agreed to do so- so with this we appreciate However, This Rob character was totally unprofessional when asked on the process of excavating the stumps. He informed us what planet were we from not to think there would be ruin to the yard, and how we should be lucky he charged us the price of $375, because a piece of his machine broke and he had to bring someone to our property to fix that cost him money to do so, and also we should be lucky he filled the holes, which as I mentioned it was not discusesed prior to do so. Then he insinuated "I knew I was going to have a problem with you paying me for the job". Like W**! Problem- one simple question led to a whole flurry of accusations and comparing me to a dog, and how his dog has more sense to know the process of removing a tree and what it involves..... After a long day of work it threw us for a loop how this character took his lack of professionalism to another level! He had judgements from us from the day he came down and we discussed the job needed  to be done face to face, which should have been our clue to leave him alone- as his price was lower than a prior  time we called for some other trees needed to be cut down, but again with the recent hurricane we had to come back to him as an option for these new trees and his price went down considerably. Conclusion- What we have figured is he may have had a problem that we we didnt hire him for that prior job we needed  weeks back, and the idea we're calling him now and then questioning his work, was a mix of a whole spur of nasty words. I don't like for someone I'm dealing with to compare me to other customers. To assume you're going to get stumped on a payment or if you foresee a problem, it is that contractor's discretion to say they don't want to do the job in the beginning. We've never had any problems with any work done on our home - whether the service we used was crappy or not- and our checks do clear- thank you! So to be informed by an individual who quite frankly did sloppy work, and be spoken to as if we're the enemies ticks me off. If you're doing any kind of work with tree cuts or excavating ask the question mentioned prior before work is done, so it's not a total shock as to what the heck did they do! The bottom line the customer is always right- and especially in this case because Rob will get his payment Saturday as we planned to do for the job he did; however, we will not be using his services again. The next bbq with the neighbors we will blast his business and the shoddy work and more importantly the ferocious attitude on how he spoke to us. We're from New York- yes, that's right NY and let me say this whole episode could have gone another way but we're civil people at the end of the day! Dealing with Pria was an experience to say the least and you know it's bad when you're getting irate  with someone you have to pay at the end of the day. The reason we're going to pay is simply for him insinuating we weren't so he had issues and assumptions from the beginning. We wanted a contractor and we got a grown man who may have an PMS episode-but  either way we were not amused! Then on top of it he has the audacity to threaten to put our name on some list in our community as problem homeowners.... all for asking a question.... we get all this drama for one question for crappy work! I don't do well with threats so I use my power (all paying customers have just that the power) by hitting the internet and expressing our experience on Anjies' List, BBB, and the so many forums to warn customers. Maybe there's a reason no one listed this company good or bad on Angie's list prior.....
