Recent Review: Stump's installed a beautiful deck in six days, as per an agreed plan, according to my design, for the agreed price. They used quality materials and the workmanship was superior. I am very pleased with the result and recommend them to all. It took a while for me to recognize that I needed a company of the size and experience of Stump's. There was an existing deck attached to the house we had just purchased that was 10' by 19,' about five years old, all pressure treated pine,. The deck had not been sealed or maintained. The railings were made from the poorest grade lumber and at the time were warped and splitting. My first idea was to increase the deck size to 20' by 26' and replace both the rails and floor with new low maintenance plastic materials. I researched cost of materials at Lowe's and Home Depot. Estimates ran about $15,000 for materials alone, but I was very disappointed with the quality and colors available. I was referred to a small contractor who was willing to build the deck for time plus materials. The contractor was fuzzy about the time required, maybe two to three weeks. He sent me to a distributor that handled better grades and brands. The estimate for materials jumped to $18,000 plus. Stump's principal business is building decks. The difference soon became apparent in our dealings. They have a professional estimator who gave me a firm estimate within a short time after his first visit. The design people listened to my requirements and produced the required drawings for construction permits. Professional construction crews built the deck using the latest specialized tools, materials and building techniques. This division of responsibilities proved to be a key to the success of the project. The Stump's management researches the latest technology and materials. They have sufficient volume to specify quality materials and contract for them direct from the producers. The sizes of the boards and the quality of the lumber was far beyond what I found in my initial searches. The building crew were experienced craftsmen who took care in fitting the elements together. This deck was built in early March 2016 in very cold weather. One detail that impressed me. Stump's had a small bulldozer with a 2' auger that dug post holes quickly in the frozen earth. In place of poured concrete footings they used large precast reinforced concrete disks that just fit the holes. It was an elegant way to save time, avoid problems with concrete curing in cold weather and still improve the quality of the product.

Recent Review: Everything came out beautifully. Andrew and everyone who worked for Cosello Construction during our project were extremely friendly, responsive, and knowledgeable. This started at the beginning of the project and continued throughout. For example, at the start of the project, we were thinking we wanted a separate shower, bathtub, and double vanity in our bathroom. We were pretty set on it at first but Andrew went with us to measure how everything would look in the bathroom and spent a lot of time discussing with us what we wanted and how we would use the bathroom on a daily basis. He made the recommendation of an oversized tub/shower combination with tiling on the walls and tub apron as well as a linen closet, which would solve our need for additional storage space for towels. He was completely right! We got the look of an all tile shower with the convenience of a bathtub and hand shower attachment. We love showering and bathing with our rainfall shower head and regular/handheld shower head combination now. Andrew was also able to recommend quality dealers of tiles and bath materials which was key for me because we wanted our general contractor to be a resource as a one stop solution not be out on our own. Andrew and his team were also very flexible. For instance, we had picked out a color for our bathroom. After a wall was done, we weren't so sure any more. Andrew's painter, even knowing we might ultimately change the color, causing more work, proposed to paint another wall so we could see more of it done before we made our final decision. It worked and once we saw the bigger section painted, we knew we had made the right choice after all. But at no point did anyone make us feel bad for the fact we might change the paint color. Another instance of this was with our deck. For most of the time, we had told Andrew we just wanted to replace landing-size "deck." After going back and forth in our family we decided to go with a true, big deck. Poor Andrew because we must have flip-flopped on the decision three or four times, telling him one thing then the other. He never made it seem like an issue or annoying to him. Once we made the true final decision, he got right to work on all of the things that needed to be done for a bigger deck, such as different permits and an architectural drawing, and yet he was still ale to install the deck before we had our son's first birthday party at home. This was great since the delay had been all ours in deciding what we wanted, and everyone loved the deck and commented on how great it was at the party. Two things that are probably underrated or not as well appreciated when selecting a contractor are how responsive they are and how clear workers leave the work site. We had a fabulous experience on both from Cosello Construction. Andrew responded to phone calls and emails right away, as did members of the team we worked with, and from the estimate phase through completion, they were always there when we needed them, to provide updates, and answer questions. Andrew spent a significant amount of time on the phone with our tile and supplies providers to make sure the orders were right before they were delivered. With regard to cleanliness, it is something you really never tend to think about unless it is not done or you hear a horror story about what happened to someone else. The highest praise I can give to Cosello Construction is that we never once though about the cleanliness of our house or yard. Every day the team laid a drop cloth on the stairs and areas of passage to our bathroom to stop any stray foot prints, kept dirt and dust confined the construction area, and by the time they left everything was as if they had never been there. Even during construction, we were able to walk into the areas without issue because they kept such a clean place of work. This is doubly important with young kids who can accidentally stray where they are not supposed to be. In all, thank you Cosello Construction. We highly recommend you.

Recent Review: A+++++ I don't know that I can adequately review Al and his team to give them the praise they deserve. Our home was undergoing extensive work due to tenant damage and his team were phenomenal. The detail they took to ensure the home looks perfect is above and beyond what I could've ever hoped for. Al was upfront, on time, and is truly one of the best contractors I've ever worked with. He was kind, patient, and worked to save us money on anything he could. They fixed, painted, and suggested repairs where we needed it. He was there each day ensuring that things looked how he would want them in his own home, and his team were the same. I actually enjoyed coming to the project because I knew I'd find them exceeding expectations. He did a lot more than paint for us, he did some odds and ends that allowed me to not hire another contractor. I will absolutely hire him again, and I HIGHLY recommend him.

Reviews in Exton for Deck Builders

ACeccola Construction Co LLC
We researched and talked to a few deck builders before deciding to go with Ceccola. One of the reasons we selected Ceccola as one of those we considered was because Chris Ceccola (owner) had been to our house 10-12 years ago when we were looking for replacement windows. We didn't get them from him, but I "liked the cut of his jib". He was just very forthcoming with details and answering questions. Turns out he hasn't changed. He was quick with his estimate, clearly understood what we wanted, and established the start date as soon as we said "go". This was NOT a new deck project. We already had a treated wood deck that I built about 30 years ago. The floor and top railing wood were split and splintered, but the foundation appeared to be solid. We asked that he confirm that it was, and where not, replace what wasn't (essentially joists, joist hangers, plate against the house, and posts). Turns out the foundation needed only a few new hangers and although the joists were solid, about half of them had bowed in the middle about ½", so had to be replaced to have a level deck. The new deck flooring and skirt are composites by TimberTech, which I had never heard of, but trust in Chris's judgment. The railing is white PVC with black aluminum balusters. We toyed with the idea of breaking up the stark white of the railing by leaving the support posts, which project ~38" above the deck floor, uncovered instead of covering them with a white PVC sleeve. However, the crew pointed out that (a) all of them had cracks that should be filled and (b) they would introduce a maintenance item to the deck that was otherwise maintenance free. So we allow them to be covered with the white sleeves. The quality of the work was great, as were the personalities of the guys who did the work. We are very pleased with the outcome.

Everything was very professional. They took care of the permit and I was able to use the permit drawings and specifications to submit for approval from my HOA. This was very helpful and expedited the approval process. The work was started ahead of schedule and completed quickly and efficiently. The deck looks great and we are enjoying having a beautiful low maintenance outdoor area. I would have given them all 5 stars except for some minor details that weren't finished (i.e. I had to repair some siding that was damaged during deck building, had to purchase and spread gravel where they had dug up existing areas, and there is an awkward transition from the deck stairs to the patio.

Alex and his crew began the demolition of the existing deck to find that the deck was a double-layered deck - two layers of wood decking. In the double-layered deck discovery process they also found that the planks of each layer were installed at at almost perpendicular angles. Lastly, to make if more interesting they found the installation of the wood decking was over-engineered - more long screws than they had ever seen. Not to be deterred, Alex's crew dealt with the job in a "it is what it is" manner and accomplished the demolition. Alex noted that the underlying beams of the existing deck needed to be reinforced with additional beams to support the Azec material. After the demolition and reinforcement was done, the installation of the deck moved on without a hitch. The work - demolition through completion - was completed in five days. On the prior Sunday we had the old deck, the following Sunday we had the new deck. We can't be more pleased.

So happy with our new deck! Chris and crew did a great job removing old cedar deck and installing new trex decking, railing and steps. Would recommend services and use again. Chris was quick to respond for an estimate, competitive pricing, always here when he said he would be, kept us informed as job progressed, cleaned up job site daily and did quality work. He also repaired bifold doors for us.

Outstanding price, quality work, and services provided. It's a raised deck with walkout basement directly below. During the demolition phase, we discovered water damage and rotted wood. I had already planned to replace the Ledger which is where the deck attaches to home. What we didn't anticipate was the majority of the wall below deck was also damaged. This cause a 1 day delay in construction project, they provided a very reasonable quote to repair everything. Can say it enough... Outstanding price, quality work, and services provided.

I started gathering estimates last year for the replacement of our 430 square foot ground level deck. Randy replied to an email inquiry within one day and set up our initial consultation for a week later. During our meeting Randy took measurements, examined the the deck's current condition/construction and it ended with a discussion of design and materials that we might want in a new deck. The meeting was relaxed and informative. A few days later we received an estimate, which turned to out be very competitive, not the lowest but far from the highest. The construction of the deck, which included removal of old deck, new framing, installation of Trex Transcends decking, Timbertech Radiance Railing and lighting, took approximately a week. The crew did a great job. They showed up early, went right to work, dealt with rain and a constructed a great looking deck. From start to finish we could not be more pleased with Randy and his crew.

We decided to replace and expand our wood deck with a composite material. After selecting Zuri as the decking product, Shone Lumber highly recommended we work with Joe Oakes of FSBD. Joe met us at our house and provided us great recommendations on deck design, under deck beam wraps and the selection of Timbertech railings and lighting. He also took care of ordering all materials and processing of township permits. Joe and the team removed the existing deck in one day (including old cement footers) and finished the new deck construction on time, within one week. I was impressed with the quality of the work, from the custom cut stairs to the placement of accent lighting on the railings. The finished product looks amazing, and our family spends a lot more time outside enjoying the new deck! I was pleased with how well Joe communicated as to the work schedule, his willingness to answer numerous questions and when he followed-up promptly with a few minor punch list items. I would highly recommend FSBD to everyone.

E&K quoted that my deck would be completed in 4 to 5 days...they came when they said they would and the job was started and completed on time. I had my new deck within 5 days and I absolutely love it. I probably would have been completed in 3 days but it rained 2 of the 5 days. Kinny Peterkin is the General Contractor and he was very professional I would recommend him and E&K Builders to all my friends and family.
