Recent Review: I appreciated Tom coming out to give the estimate, scheduling the date, showing up on time and completing the job. He was friendly and efficient. Also scoring BIG with me is when he came into the house, he put on shoe booties to protect the floor. Just that little touch made an positive impression with me. A few weeks ago, I was walking the dogs and mentioned to a neighbor about him and that I highly recommended him. I was just stopped by the neighbor's husband who thanked me for the wonderful reference. Tom had already fixed their attic fan that had been broken for a few years. Thank you Tom!

We have a metal roof and they came with the new fan we really didn't want to have the roof repaired if something went wrong. So they were able to take the inner workings of the new fan and put them in the old fans shell. They changed out the electronics and the new top (that will not rust) was fitted on top. Tested and every thing is working great. The new fan moves more the twice the amount of air as the old one. All the work was done in a timely matter with no issues. Love the work. thank you

The fan is in a difficult area to reach in the attic, but Darrell quickly found a solution for how to reach and repair the fan.  When he was done with the repair, he set the thermostat to the appropriate settings so it will not run at all times like the previous settings.

It was a great experience.  Most companies are not interested in small jobs, so where does one go to get the work done? This was our first experience using Angie's List.  The recommendations were good so we made the call to Handyman Matters. Heather was very helpful giving information over the phone and set up the appointment for the work to be done. Kurt arrived when scheduled and looked over all to be done.  He was also very helpful with suggestions and knowledge of how things should be done.  He did the purchasing of any supplies that were needed and he started the work.  Each day he cleaned up and removed all waste.  He worked continuously the days he was here and was most comfortable to be around. We were very pleased with the finished product and would recommend him and Handyman Matters to anyone.

Tom was great. I asked that he come to the house since he would be replacing a 25 year old ceiling fan that was mounted above the stairs and I didn't want him to be surprised at the "challenge." He looked over what had to be done and said NO problem. I ordered the fan and within a couple of days after it arrived, he set up a time to install. Old fan down; new fan up-- no problem. I paid the EXTREMELY reasonable bill and he left. However after he left, I realized that I MADE A MISTAKE in explaining how I wanted the switches to work (2 switches control the fan light --1 on the 1st floor; the other on the second floor.) I contacted him and explained it was MY ERROR. He returned a couple days later, had to disassemble the whole fan and rewire it AND REFUSED TO BILL ME FOR MY MISTAKE. Everything works great and he has a customer for life.

I contacted Cumberland Heating Air Conditioning, Plumbing and Electrical (CHACPE) to install two ceiling fans in 2nd floor rooms in my house. During the initial call, I found them helpful in terms of advising me about purchasing fans. They recommended that I shop at either of the major home improvement chains and narrowed down the list of fan manufacturers to two well-known companies. I purchased the fans and scheduled the installation date. I purchased one inexpensively priced fan (for the office room) and one moderately priced fan (for the bedroom). They showed up promptly, prepared to work. Both rooms required ceiling fan boxes (to support weight of fan) and they left to go get parts for this. They returned shortly but one of the boxes was the incorrect size so they left again. They installed both fans, the cheaper fan seem to install much more quickly and worked OK upon start up. It had a slight rattle which I asked about and was told to put pennies or tape on the blades and it would probably improve the rattle. I did do this later and it does work when running the fan at higher speeds. The better quality fan (bedroom) worked but made a very loud metal-on-metal sound when operating which CHACPE attributed to a defective fan. The noise level was NOT acceptable. I told him where I had purchased the fan and he advised me not to use that particular store (which he had previously recommended) and he further noted that the types of fans sold in major home improvement stores aren t of very good quality and that I should buy the next fan at a specialty lighting and ceiling fan store. He said that it could not be fixed and that when I purchased the new fan call and he d be back to install it. I purchased much better (and pricier) fan online but decided to call a different electrician to install it. I called the other company (see my review on them) and within a few minutes he diagnosed the problem not as a defective fan but found a wire obstructing the blade rotation. In short, the fan had not been installed properly. After moving the wire out of the way, the fan operated perfectly and quietly. I wrote CHACPE a letter explaining what had happened and requesting a refund (for the installation on one fan only). They did not reply. I will not use them again, and would not recommend them to others.
