The job was bid, work started the next week. I picked out the brick at the brick company. He ordered the correct amount and arranged for delivery. The whole process took about 3 weeks from start to finish. I wanted a craftsman (arts & crafts) look and he designed a fireplace that looks like it could have been here for 50 years! I love it. See the photo. Oh, and he is tidy. He draped the work area with plastic so dust would not get on the rest of the room. He completely cleaned up each day. Very pleasant experience.

ABill Hoyland Home Repair & Remodel
We initially hired Bill to install shower and bathroom tile we purchased from Pratt and Larson for our Rummer home in Beaverton. It was not far into the project until he revealed pretty extensive mold and dry rot in the area. He went out of his way to see if other areas of the home were damaged and sure enough they were. Over the course of 3 months, Bill worked with us on a full restoration down to the studs. Bill's communication throughout this time was amazing; he was honest with us when he felt it was better to hire specialists for certain repairs (although we were amazed at what he was able to do himself). Bill was also incredibly clean throughout the project, picking up after himself each day. He would often text and send photos during the day if he had questions for us. When the repairs were complete, Bill started the tile work. His attention to detail was stunning and he approached each challenge with a creativity we were not used to from previous craftsmen. Our tile was handmade and imperfect and we still don't know how he managed to lay and finish the tile so beautifully. It's truly an art and he reminded us why not every project should be DIY. Bill is our go-to craftsmen now and we are excited to approach him for our next projects. We HIGHLY recommend him.

DMICA GENERAL CONTRACTING
Once the contract was signed, he was impossible to contact. He screens his phone calls, his voice mail is usually full and won't take additional messages, and he never responds to faxes. Very passive aggressive; will agree with whatever you say, but will do what he wants when he gets to it.

Dave and his crew came in and installed all three retaining walls in just one day. In course of the project they realized that the walls needed to be higher than expected and that the existing retaining walls needed to be higher as well. So after confirming with us they took out the plants from the existing beds, elevated the walls, filled up with topsoil and put the plants back in - all within the same day and just at the cost of the additional stones used. The walls look great and we are very happy with the result.

AThe Wall
The Wall followed through again, from the initial detailed quote, to following through with the date given to begin and end. This is the second time we have used The Wall for 2 major Camas Grey rock walls. Both were done in a timely manner, and all costs were given up front. When little changes occurred, we were always informed of cost differences or credits. Our project manager for the 2nd time was George. He worked well with his crew, and always let them know what needed to be done each day and followed through with them. The crew, Ron, Devin, & Marcaleno worked hard each day, amidst some harsh weather and heavy labor. They never complained, and seemed to be happy working and creating our beautiful walls. Those bamboo roots they had to dig up to put in a retaining wall was not an easy job! Thank you to everyone. I highly recommend The Wall.

Perfect! Jozo supplied stone similar to the ones in other garden retaining walls, removed the existing collapsing wall and rebuilt it with the new stone. It looks great!

Rigo had the crew show up on time on a Saturday and completed another professional job. We used them last year and had great success as usual. We highly recommend them. Their crews are great to work with. We will use them again in the future. Ron Thomas

Our concrete block retaining wall project was begun and finished on time. The crew worked efficiently, cleaned up every evening after the day's work was done, and clearly was experienced at the task. The price was competitive with the other bids we received. Communication with Bret, our project designer, was reliable and easy by phone or email. We would use Northwest Outdoor Living for future projects and will recommend them to neighbors as well.

AThe Wall
There were some challenges with the existing grades. The old wall was "flush" with neighbors retaining walls on both sides. So the lower new wall needed to match those. Also the grade of the sidewalk where the lower wall is, is sloped, while the grade of the yard where the upper wall is, is more level. The final upper wall overshot the grade of the lawn in one corner (i.e. stuck up above the grade of the lawn). In the contractor's defense even though it looked wrong to me I approved the line before they installed. Otherwise everything went really well. I had a few haggles with the site superintendent about what was included in the bid, but it was all resolved to my satisfaction. It was a bit pricey, but I really wanted the two tiered wall rather than slope to a lower wall because of a 100' fir tree in the front yard (limit soil erosion). Also, they subbed out the concrete for the stairs and walkway so that added to the cost. I have had many complements on the wall, even from folks just walking by. Very happy with the end product.

Because my backyard was very wet, we had to delay the start of the project for a few months. Dave was very responsive, and assured me that he would get to it as soon as my yard was dry enough. The backyard is difficult to get to, so all of the retaining wall stones had to be hand carried down the hill. They actually wound up building a lower wall to stabilize the ground, and an upper wall where the previous wall failed (which had been a poorly made wooden wall). They completed the job in 2-1/2 days, and I couldn't be happier. Those walls are like a fortress, and beautifully done! Also, he wound up charging less than his bid!

Recent Review: Brian made measurements, took pictures and explained the procedures they would use. His estimate was half what the other four were. This is mainly because the others insisted they had to replace the whole front door to fix the threshold. One guy said he would have to remove the sliding glass door to fix the floor. I had to wait a couple of weeks to get the estimate, but it was worth the wait. Ben did the floor and David did the rest. It took about 6 hours. All repairs were completed satisfactorily. The final bill was slightly below the estimate.

Recent Review: I am super happy with this paver project. The front pathway and retaining wall with a corner post are absolutely beautiful. The large back patio area has transformed the space into an Italian-style plaza. We selected Brightwood colors for the pavers (reddish hues) and they perfectly selected retaining wall stones to match. Throughout the project, Taylor exhibited excellent communication. He seemed to know exactly what we meant every time we spoke about design elements. His team was absolutely professional and worked so quickly, I couldn't believe it. Huge thumbs up!
