Lewis Landscaping installed a large over $30,000 retaining wall a few years ago and other than delays they did a great job. The retaining wall completely transformed our sloped yard into a large usable space. So when I wanted a pergola installed to have a dry area in my yard I contacted them. The project manager came out for an estimate, which seemed high ($3,000 for a 10' by 11' simple pergola with plastic roof), but since I had a good experience with the company in the past I trusted them. With the rainy season coming quickly and wanting a dry area for my puppy I was hoping to get the pergola constructed soon so the the project manager gave me two options: 1) Hire a contractor with Lewis Landscaping managing the project, and have the project completed within a week 2) Have Lewis Landscaping complete the project and have it done in a month. Since the project manager from Lewis Landscaping explained that if I went with the contractor he would still be my contact person, that the quality would be the same, and that he would manage the project I went with the contractor. I paid the contractor upfront and when I came home from work the pergola looked very different from the photo provided by Lewis Landscaping. I contacted the project manager from Lewis Landscaping and he was very helpful. He came out went over designs with me, came back later and personally made the changes and additions to the pergola to make it look more like the photo. Later in the spring I noticed unattractive moss growing inside the clear plastic roof (in the spaces inside the roof that cannot be reached to clean). I went on a ladder and looked at the top of the roof and noticed a screw missing leaving a hole allowing water into the roof and onto the wood below. The space between the roof and wood is so tight the wood was likely wet all winter, which will be damaging to the untreated wood over time. I contacted the Lewis Landscaping project manager and he told me he would come out and do the repairs. After not hearing from him again in a month I contacted Lewis Landscaping and found out the project manager was no longer with Lewis Landscaping. I was in contact with the owner of Lewis Landscaping, Jim, and he explained to me that since I paid the contractor, not Lewis Landscaping, they would not help. This is the opposite of what the project manager explained to me. I forwarded the email from the Lewis Landscaping project manager that included the Lewis Landscape logo stating he would do the repairs, but the owner still refused to help in any way. He wouldn't come out and put the screw in the roof, he wouldn't try to contact the contractor, nothing. Since I had it in writing from Lewis Landscaping that it would be fixed, and Lewis Landscaping had come out before to help with the pergola they should have honored what was stated. I was very mislead by this company. I was willing to pay the higher prices for the quality and customer service, but found it was the individual project managers that were great, not the company. There are good companies that do landscaping at better prices in the area. I would recommend using another company for any projects.
