Recent Review: I have used this company 2 years prior for another retaining wall. They are very knowledgable regarding walls. Both walls were completed timely and within budget.  The first wall used Allen Block to replace a crumbling railroad tie wall.  The second wall just completed, used the natural sandstone that was part of the original wall. The shape of the wall was changed to a two tiered curved wall.  The 2 tiers were needed because of the height. Each stone was pinned. The original wall was dry stacked. Drainage was added to the base of the wall, drainage for the gutter on the top level was replaced, and grating was done on the upper surface to control water.

It was a very good experience.  They were very prompt to reply to our request to meet on the property.  They provided a bid in writing.  They executed the project according to the timeline they said.  They were very professional and skilled.  It was great to work with this company and the people as individuals!

He bought the colors that I chose and even put a really nice texture on the walls. The house has never looked as good as it does now. He did three different colors and was very professional. He has given me quotes to redo my floors and several other projects that as soon as I have the money I will be investing with this company.

Mr. Gendill was very professional, pleasant, and thorough. We were selling our home and our buyers wanted us to pay for a $30,000 basement fix to a problem that we thought might have a cheaper solution. Mr. Gendill studied our home from top to bottom, took pictures, and provided a full written plan within a couple days. He provided free consultation throughout the process of fixing an identified issue in our basement (we ended up constructing a concrete wall with rebar, which Mr. Gendill specified had to have rebar placed so far apart in the concrete block cells, and the concrete footing had to be so deep and wide, etc.). Part of his fee included having to travel over 90 miles to our home from Mr. Gendill's location. The resulting wall in our basement (including labor for three guys) was about $8000, a much better price than the other proposed solution that the buyers' engineer came up with. Mr. Gendill was about triple the price of another engineering firm we sought estimates from, but I appreciate that he did not charge per hour and his consultative services were free once we paid for the structural inspection. He is also somewhat of an expert in older homes (our home is historical), and seemed to understand the unique issues of older homes. His report was much more extensive than the one produced by our buyers' engineer (which was only a couple pages and did not have any specific fixes; Mr. Gendill's report was over 15 pages). We also hired the buyers' engineer to provide simultaneous recommendations for how to fix identified problem areas (both engineer's were concerned about the same wall in the basement, we agreed to pay the buyers' engineer at an hourly rate), but we NEVER heard from the buyer's engineer in 3.5 weeks (by the time the wall was constructed according to Mr. Gendill's recommendations)! Even though I think Mr. Gendill's services were pricey, we had peace of mind that we got very concrete/specific results with proposed fixes quickly, got these results quickly, and could try to get our home ready for buyers and finish the remediation process. We would hire him again if we needed to!

The guy that was set up do the work for him  ended up quitting on him.  After the his worker quit he was trying to do the work himself.  Then he ended up messing it up.  He was supposed to install flagstone around the pool area, and the edges were very sharp and was dangerous for my kids.  He even messed up the entire pool deck area.  I am now trying to hire someone else to fix this.

He claimed he'd work 9-5 when in actuality he worked 10-3 at best. The doors had to be installed more than once and still aren't right but it would be "extra" to fix them. His trim work around the door stood away from the wall, which he claimed was the wall. It was his shims that stuck out too far. He has helpers but they are his young nephews and basically lack experience. Nice enough kids though. Nothing that goes wrong is his fault. He will argue with you He does not stand by his work. I fired him before I let him install the attic stairs I had hired him for. I just wanted him gone. The door to the bedroom will not stay open. He claimed the carpet layers did that when they took the door off to install the carpet. The carpet layers had nothing to do with the hinges or the plumb of the door. I have a wallpaper mural (he was contracted to hang but after I hired him he told me he was not confident in his ability to do that. He knew someone who could do it - extra of course and he didn't lower price for not doing it). Anyway, I hung the mural myself. He painted up near it then I had him put trim on either side of mural to look like window. There is a missing knot on one of the boards, this doesn't bother me, but he put it over unpainted wall so there is big white unsightly spot along the mural. He argued with me that it was part of the wallpaper- I had him feel the edge of the paper which proved it's not. He said he could put some paint in there - I said to move the board. He did neither. Additionally, I gave him things that I could have sold - big screen TV, a new solid core pre-hung birch door, scrap lumber and he wanted extra to stand by his work.
