Recent Review: I highly recommend Thompson Home Improvement.
Recent Review: It went great. Dustin was responsive and friendly. Quote was much less than our deck builder would have charged. We had this done last summer and we have had no issues with it as far as leaking etc. The job took 1 day and he was able to come sooner than originally estimated. He even fixed a downspout that our deck builder had left unattached. Highly recommended.
Recent Review: Great! I am very pleased with my home
Recent Review: The quote was the highest quote but according to the provider it was because his quality if work would be higher. Since he had done work for a friend and they were very satisfied, I decided to trust him. When we met, I explained that I wanted the stairs to go out the end of the deck away from the house. He suggested that the steps would be better placed beside the house since that was flatter ground. I agreed and left the plans up to him to construct. They showed up to build the deck on the day before Thanksgiving. Since I had plans to be out of town, there was no way for me to supervise the work. When I returned that weekend, I found that the steps were in the wrong place. I was told it would cost $700 to move the steps to the agreed on location. I have since spoken with the provider and was informed that the people quoting a price were not authorized to do so. I have not yet moved the steps.

Reviews in Hillsboro for Deck Builders

DSwiss Valley Fence Ltd
I provided a drawing of our proposed deck with some of the spec.s sought. The sales man made a few measurments. It was a challenge to engage sales man. A few days later another company called saying the had my drawings and wanted to make a bid. I was farmed out by Swiss Valley with no notice... This was a total waste of my time!

DJ&K Contracting
J &K were punctual in giving me an estimate and a design (which clearly planned for 2 gates and the removal of the old deck and attached walkway). Only a few days after receiving the estimate, however, I received a high-pressure call to commit, since other orders were pending. I did it, and J&K promised to start in 30days of signing. 30 days passed and not a word from J&K. I called to complain and was told that I was being unreasonable for expecting them to honor their contract when bad weather had pushed them off schedule.  They agreed to a slight reduction in price (500). When they started, nearly 2 weeks later than the final possible start date (thus nearly 6 weeks after I signed to get on the alleged priority list), they removed part of the deck and were seriously planning on simply building over the old, rotting deck. I complained, and they said this was not in the contract. They agreed, reluctantly, to remove it at no cost. They built the deck and when I said that there needed to be a second gate, they again told me that this was not in the contract, but I discussed this with the manager and drew a very clear picture of what I wanted.  They then charged me  an additional fee for the second gate, almost eliminating my reduction. They completed the deck fairly quickly and for the most part did a fine job. When I asked about the staining of the deck, the workers seemed surprised that this was part of the job because the deck was built from pressure-treated lumber and was still too moist to paint.  Why was this not taken into consideration when I was give the estimate? I agreed to wait a few months to have the deck painted. When the time had come (Feb.) , there had been a lot of rain and I was going to be out of the house for business for several months and I agreed to have the deck painted when I return (July). I called J&K in early August to set up a date to get the deck painted. This was the start of a long list of excuses and "I'm sorry's" from the company secretary. They continually neglected to contact me and continually neglected to put my job  on their list (I had made full payment when the deck construction was completed, which, now , I realize was a mistake. Never pay until all the work has been completed!).  After the initial call in August, the deck was finally painted in November.  The paint job was very sloppy. There were huge gaps of unfinished paint in between the board on the deck . The sides of the deck were minimally painted. I strongly recommend against using this company's services. My beef here is particuarly directed at the management, who seem to operate under the principle of "get as many contracts as possible" without worrying whether they have the manpower and time to complete them. If you do use this company, be sure to go over every detail and very clearly specify what you want in the initial contract. Also, do not pay the full amount until ALL the work is done.

ADo It All Construction
Chad and his crew were excellent to work with.  Very professional and in tune with ensuring we were pleased with the work.  They worked the entire time they were on site which is exceptional since they had to hand carry over 80 ton of gravel and another 80 ton of soil to our water front due to limited access on the property.  The results are stunning!  We highly recommend Do It All for any project you have and will use them in the future as well!

AGH Handyman LLC
Fabulous!!! You're going to think I am a family member after reading my review. I'm not. I am someone who is very wary of contractors. I've had people come to my home in the past and do a poor job or be less than trustworthy. I had gotten to the point where I figured I could screw something up myself and I could do it for free so why pay someone??? Well, I have a friend who used Greg Hughes Handyman & Home Improvement in the past and really likes his work. I saw their reviews on Angie's List and nervously gave them a try. Greg came to my house and gave me a great price to build me a new deck with a 10x10 sub deck for a hot tub. I choose him because his price and availability were good. He and James removed the old 10x10 deck, propping up the aluminum awning that also needed repair. They built a rock solid deck (my horses can walk across it) exactly how imagined it, only better. The "better" came from details like installing a handrail down the steps, trimming it out and angling the ends of handrail, running the wood from the steps right into the 10x10 pad to avoid a seam between the deck and the steps, and installing boards across the bottom (because I dislike the lattice) all without me asking! They also repaired the aluminum awning and replaced split gutter and ran it off the deck. They did several things other than the deck. Multiple interior and exterior electrical projects were tackled with ease and professionalism. A sanitary hydrant that has not worked properly since a PLUMBING COMPANY installed it (Mr. Plummer, Circleville) now works as it should have all along. They repaired an aluminum awning and replaced the gutter that attaches to it. They also installed duct work which should have been installed when the house was built. The final chapter was a power wash of the deck and a clean up of the site. There are things about this contractor that make him better than most. Quality is superior. Price is fair and reasonable. Greg Hughes will clearly tell you if a task is not within their expertise instead of going ahead and doing something sub par. They are very trustworthy (I had no problem leaving the house open when I left for work) and considerate. An example of being considerate: they dug some holes while I was at work. When I came home each hole was clearly marked so I would not step in any of the holes. Honestly, I have never had a contractor behave in these ways. By the time all was finished I really felt that my experience of the process was important to Greg. It is really nice to know that you don't have to be wealthy to get great work and be treated really well. Thank you Greg, and James, for everything you did.

ADNA Home Improvements
The moment I spoke to Donte and Amanda I knew I called the right company to do my deck and add an electric service. Donte and Amanda are wonderful people to talk to. They explained in detail how each process goes for every project. I have been a happy, satisfied, and devoted customer since you did the work. DNA Home Improvement & Contractors are highly professional, and more importantly, trustworthy. We had interviewed other renovation companies and know the many horror stories from people dissatisfied. This is a company you can trust! Quality work!
