I previously hired Justin to install a patio door, windows, and a door leading to the garage. I was so impressed with his work that my sister and I decided to hire his company to remodel the kitchen. Once we had the new patio door and windows in, the rest of the kitchen really needed a face lift. Since this project was bigger, we selected a cabinet line that was part of the Carter Lumber  line of kitchens. We wanted to make sure that the measuring and ordering of these items were done by people who do this everyday. While we did order a lot from Carter Lumber, we still wanted the flexibility to order items from a Home Depot or Lowes if we found that we were able to get a product we liked better from these store. Justin's quote included only those items that we wanted him to do. For example, we did the removal of the old cabinets ourselves. However, if we wanted, Justin would have done that breakdown for us. He was willing to work with us to help us save money on this project and we made sure that we were always ahead of Justin on what we wanted to do ourselves. He was flexible with his schedule when I had to move him back on his  installation when we found we needed more plumbing & Electrical work than originally anticipated.  Because I had scheduled him  in advance he was able to accommodate my revised scheduled which delayed him 2 days for installation on his part of the project.  While as in any project, you do have unexpected things happen.  Another example of Justin's flexibility was  the 1/2 bath door that was  put on hold. Because of the tight swing, I was not sure a new door which measured 1/8 inch wider than the old door would work like I wanted.   He was able to determine that the new door would work so that it allowed for the 1/8 inch we needed for the door to  swing open like it did previously and miss the sink. Had it not, then the door would have been return to Carter Lumber since it was a stock item. Justin again completed the project on schedule and on budget. He coordinated everything with Carter Lumber so that all the products were delivered on time and when needed. . Everything was done as quoted on the estimate and he was able to work around the quirks you have with an older home. I would definitely use Justin's company, Odell Construction Inc., again for other projects that are going to come up as my sister & I  continue to update my mother's home. Danielle Davidson

CDelauro Remodeling & Repair Co
I want to be fair to these guys, part of how they worked was just right:  no monkey business on the pricing, the stuff they painted looked good, they scheduled and completed the job in a timely manner.  If we were just having a few rooms repainted in a different color they'd probably be fine.  But there was just way, way too much drama managing them for me to use them again. We've been in our older home about 10 years, needed some touch up/ repairs done, bought an Angie's list deal for a week's worth of work.  Estimator came over to check it out, early vibes that they might not be that sophisticated of painters (concern about treatments suggested for crazing that didn't seem right), assumed they might have been fishing for additional hours, not that concerned.  Grew more concerned later.  When crew came over, crew leader was confused about the paints (since it was touch up, many different cans in different rooms), spent A LOT of time on that.  Then there were lots of "problems" with the paints, some probably legitimate (age), some frankly ridiculous (can't paint latex over Kilz primer).  Authorized them to buy some paint just to get them going.  Complaints about the use of oil-based paint on the back door - ruined one of their brushes, we'd have to pay for that (they didn't charge us, but seriously?).  Had them paint over a small section of crayoned wall in the basement, they suggested leaving it just primed not applying a topcoat - um, no.  Had planned on them pulling some nails in a bookshelf and filling the holes and repainting, they made it seem like a really big deal, so just let it go (did it myself over the holiday...wasn't that hard). Like I said, what they painted looked fine.  But it was just way too exhausting to manage these guys for me to want to bring them back.  YMMV.

Purchased a Deal for 199 Handyman for a Day. Dan contacted us immediately to schedule, but informed us that the work we wanted done (installing some interior trim, caulking, etc.) was not included in this deal, citing it would require skilled labor and power tools. There was no mention of any exclusions in the Deal offer, so this was surprising. We opted to not continue with this. However, we were satisfied with Delauro's responsiveness and candor, so will consider his company in the future.

great! reasonable estimate, actual price was in line with it, workers were prompt, work was solid. we also used them for a masonry project, and intend to use them to install all new windows throughout the house. At this point, we're pretty much going to use them for everything. Got their name from 2 coworkers, who have also used them, and been happy with the work

LARRY WAGNER WAS PROMPT ON GIVING ME AN ESTIMATE AND SHOWED UP ON TIME. ONCE WE GOT IT SCHEDULED, HIS WORKERS SHOWED UP EXACTLY ON TIME AND STAYED UNTIL THE JOB WAS DONE. THEY CONSULTED ME ON VARIOUS ASPECTS OF THE JOB TO MEET MY SATISFACTION. THEY CLEANED UP WHEN THEY WERE DONE AND THE COST WAS EXACTLY AS ESTIMATED.

Initially, the installation went well, but due to product error for the steps and some of the trim, the job could not be completed same day. Business owner scheduled the completion for three weeks after we had correct materials. He didn't call and didn't show up. He has failed to respond to several telephone calls and emails from us to reschedule. We paid him nearly everything we owed him.

I want to start off by saying that Rich is an extremely nice, pleasant, and respectful guy. I also want to say that he probably did not anticipate having to do some of the work he did when replacing the sliding door (i.e. purchase and install new trim, mud walls, etc...), and lost money on the job. He had also repaired the holes in the ceiling and wall for free. -When he came over to give the estimate, I asked him if the carpet would need to be stretched once the sliding door was replaced. He said "No." After the door was replaced, there was a 1-inch gap where the subfloor was exposed. He then indicated that a transition piece of some type could be placed over the gap. I would have liked to know up front prior to installation that there was the possibility a transition piece might be needed. In all fairness, my question was not explicit enough. If a transition piece is placed over the exposed subfloor, then the carpet would not need to be stretched, right? -One of the days he was working at my house FedEx came to pick up a package. FedEx erroneously came to my house-I did not have a package for them to pick up. I don't know if FedEx rang my doorbell and Rich answered the door or if Rich was outside the house when FedEx came. Long story short, when FedEx came to the house, Rich gave FedEx another package that happened to be in my foyer, which was not supposed to be picked up by FedEx. I assume partial responsibility because FedEx previously came to my house erroneously and I called the appropriate people (or so I thought) to communicate that there was no package to pick up. I should have warned Rich that FedEx might be stopping by and there was no package to pick up. FedEx is also responsible because once Rich communicated to FedEx that he was not the home owner, the conversation should have ended there and FedEx should have left. The FedEx guy was pushy, saw the package in the foyer, and insisted to Rich that he had to take that specific package, so Rich gave it to him. I understand that Rich was trying to be helpful, but he should have pushed back and commented that since he was not the homeowner, he would not give the package to FedEx. -At first glance after the door was installed, trim replaced, and walls around the trim mudded, I thought it looked great and I communicated that to him. When I took a closer look...: ----A couple of nails were not flush and bent into the wood. I had to pull these out, which ended up gauging the wood. I corrected the issues with wood filler. ----My existing trim in the room is painted white and no grain is visible through the paint. He used oak trim around the door, which is great if the trim was going to be stained. Oak is not the best choice if the trim is going to be painted, unless one has the personnel preference of being able to see the grain through the paint. It sticks out like a soar thumb to me. I think applying some type of gloss might smooth it out, but then painting over the gloss, even if primer is used, may not turn out so well (i.e. the paint will chip off). He did use a pre-primed pine baseboard though. ----One of the side pieces of trim is not long enough and a large gap is visible. I purchased another piece of trim to replace the short one. I just have to get around to doing it. ----When he applied mud on the walls near the trim, mud was caked all over the side of the trim, which I spent 30 minutes chipping off. I would have expected the trim to be covered or "protected" in some way so this did not happen. I thought that was kind of sloppy. ----Once the large hole in my ceiling was repaired, adjacent areas were mudded. Unfortunately, some of these adjacent areas had caulk on them, which should have been removed first before mud was applied. The mud was applied over the caulk.
