We met Doug (Van D***) and Seth (Martin) shortly after we bought a neglected foreclosed property.  We were working on a tight budget and I thought I would act as the general contractor on the project for as much as I could.  I called them out to look at our siding and some water damage (Their website only advertises windows, siding and roofing.)  They immediately took an interest in our project and shared their experience of fixing up older houses to resell, and how they both live in older houses that they've rehabilitated.  They took several hours that morning, walking through our house and performing a better inspection than our "home inspector" provided prior to the sale.  Seth took an interest in the back wall of our house which is a series of 7 pairs of french doors with transoms that is in need of replacing, going so far as to take measurements and then redesign the back wall to use standard-sized doors so that we wouldn't have to shell out the money for custom size doors.  Doug got up on the roof and pointed out all the installation flaws, and without us asking had his roofer come out to climb up to the very top (not easy, 3 story house) to look at the chimney flashing.  This was done not for a sale but just so that we would know what were dealing with. One Sunday morning Doug came over to see some flood damage caused by the geothermal installation and he immediately called over a guy he knew to dig out the muck and install a French drain.  This on a Sunday morning. Doug and Seth appreciate the colonial style of our house and are interested in the aesthetics of what they do.  They have been exceedingly patient through 4 months of research to get just the right doors and siding.  I don't know anyone else who spends their time on the weekends to save us money and lessen their profit. These guys have bent over backwards to help us, putting in way more hours researching options for our doors and siding than they could ever hope to recuperate in a sale.  They have done this as friends and I am enormously grateful.   I have to stress, in the 4+ months we have been working with Van Martin, they have never ever pressured us.  In fact they have put in an unbelievable amount of time to save us money, getting multiple bids, telling us things we could do ourselves and lending us their tools, and bringing over their wives and children, engendering a friendship that I hope will last beyond our home project. I recommend Van Martin.  I know that there is not enough time in the day for them to treat all their customers as they have treated us, but I know they would want to, and I know they would be completely honest with you and give you a good deal that they will stand behind on your window, siding and roofing jobs. BTW Our roof turned out flawlessly (GAF Camelot shingles, very pretty), our basement joist repair resulted in some damaged brick veneer which they fixed on their dime even though I offered to pay for it.  Their carpenter did a wonderful job repairing our wooden front door.  They've hooked me up with some other capable guys they know to do odds and ends on an hourly basis.  And we're still working with them on those back doors and redwood siding repair, 4 months later.
