Recent Review: We had Jesse help us when we moved last Fall. We asked him to paint a stairway (with high ceilings) and hallways upstairs and down. Then we asked him to paint all the doors and trim in the hallway (6 doors). THEN, we added four bedrooms and the windows (9). THEN we asked him to paint my husband's study. We just kept adding and adding onto the original project. Jesse already had commitments at other homes but knew we were waiting to move in. He would actually come in after working all day somewhere else. We truly appreciated him getting us into our home so quickly even if it wasn't as fast as we preferred. It was often difficult to get in contact with Jesse because he was working out of cell phone range, or busy doing another job. We were still pleased with the quality of his work since we obviously kept giving him more to do. Months after moving, we recently hired Jesse again to work on our former home. Jesse painted another room for us, another ceiling, and replaced an outdated light fixture. I'm sure we will come up with more work for him in our and quot;newand quot; historic home.

FAffordable Interiors
I received an estimate from Wade in late June.  I am an out of state homeowner, and I had limited time to travel 8 hours to do repairs on the home.  After having set a start date, Wade called me as I was driving up stating that it was his birthday and he would not be getting started until the day after our agreed upon start date.  I then had to call my flooring installation company and arrange for them to start a day later than scheduled.  Thankfully they were able to do that.  Wade and his partner showed up early in the morning and got started right away.   They ended up taking a day longer to paint than planned.  Wade asked me to call him two days later after the paint had time to dry well so that he could come back and do touch ups.  The trim, cabinets, doors and mouldings needed another coat of paint, and Wade stated that it would be best to allow a few days of dry time on those areas.  I called Wade 2 days later and he stated he would be over the next day to finish up the job.  He was a no show, and my message and text went unanswered for 2 more days.  When he returned my text, he stated that it was the anniversary of his child's death, and that he would come over the next day.  Again, he was a no show.  My messages and texts again went unanswered.  I heard from Wade a day later, and was told that he was too busy to finish the job.  He asked me to call him the next time I was in town, which would be a month later.  We set up a date in June for him to finish up the job, and again he did not show.  I called and sent texts, at which time he told me that he was not going to be able to finish up the job.  I ended up calling another painting company to put finishing coats on the trim, cabinets, doors and mouldings.  Wade was very rude, very unprofessional, and when I told him I was thinking of taking him to small claims court, he told me to "f-off"!  I wish I had been a member of Angie's list at that time, so that I could have found a professional, dependable interior painting company!  I regret ever having chosen Affordable Interiors and Wade Davis to perform any work on my home!

Dennis and Ron are extremely talented craftsmen who exhibit the highest quality of workmanship. They do not cut corners in any fashion and don't ask them to! They construct your project as if they are building for themselves. Their attention and thought to detail is unparalleled. This building had been vacant for several years and the last and quot;so calledand quot; improvements were in the 1980's. The project was a complete renovation from floor joists to sill plates, from brick walls to finished interior walls. They assisted in sub- contractor selection and floor plan design. They were extremely professional, worked thru winter conditions, arrived on time, picked up necessary materials as needed, oversaw sub-contractors work and protected the integrity of the jobsite. My goal was to maintain the historic dignity of thebuilding on the exterior and stairway areas, but add modern flair to the interior of the apartments. The endeavor was a success. One of my favorite aspects of the project was the interior stairway area. They removed all the paneling and crumbling plaster to reveal the original brick walls. Much of the original woodwork then had to be replaced. They meticulously cut and matched the new woodwork to the old and were able to maintain the period look of the window and door frames, staircase trim and moulding. Loved it! They went above and beyond in sealing up the attic/roof areas from weather and critters and vented and insulated the same. I cannot recommend anyone more highly. If you are looking for meticulous construction, honesty and integrity hire Duvall Homes.

Will and his partner Bob removed all windows and installed replacement windows.  They were very good at keeping the house clean and organized as they worked.  They used the attached garage, but kept clutter and the overall mess of this size project to a minimum.  They made all timelines as shared, worked with us around the Christmas and New Year's holidays and completed the work as expected.  Very happy with their work and how they conducted all stages of the job.

AProMaster Home Repair & Handyman Services
After checking Angie's list, I called ProMaster Home Repair owner, Don Kennedy.  He scheduled an appointment for Ben Benson to come to my home and give an estimate.   Ben was very professional and friendly.  He provided me with all the necessary paperwork required along with a detailed estimate for the work I wanted done.  Ben was very easy to work with.  I was confident the remodel I needed and wanted would be done correctly.  The men who worked with Ben were equally skilled and pleasant The work completed was:  demo of current materials on porch including old skylight and waterlogged beams and posts,  replace beams and posts with new material.  prep walls to accept cedar shingles,  trim around windows and door, install bead board ceiling with 2 fans and new lights, stain and paint all new material, remove siding above porch to install roof sheating and proper flashing, intall new roof sheating and shingles, repair gutter on exterior of porch and remove gutter at roof level above porch.  The porch is finished with cedar  and beautiful  trim around the posts.  All the work was excellent.  I highly recommend Ben Benson, he is a craftsman to respect. All the people who were involved at ProMasters were friendly, professional and helpful, with excellent followup.  I more than received my money's worth from this company.  I will call Don Kennedy and ProMaster Home Repair in the future.

I hired this guy to install a tub and shower surround and remodel a bathroom for me. He claims that he installed what he said he would and the rest was "on me". He basically tore out the old tub and placed my new tub in the hole and screwed it to the wall and left any finish or trim work up to me. His quote said "install" tub and surround. I expected a finished product, I got a tub set in place in which NO finish work was done. Same with the vanity. The work that was done was of very poor standards.

BStahl Mowery Construction
One of the things we loved about working with Stahl-Mowery was the ideas they had.  We had worked previously with an architect to get ideas and we actually liked Paul's ideas and plans better.  I wanted a large open kitchen/sunroom addition with lots of windows and a patio door where I could see the countryside and we loved his ideas on how to achieve it. He also suggested a covered porch off of the kitchen/sunroom with a fan that is great for sitting outside. We enlarged and covered the front porch as well.  It was a very large project because not only were we adding an addition, we were also bringing the rest of the house up to modern day standards as it had no central heat, very few lights and outlets and no upstairs bath.  We added outlets/switches/lights to each room, the basement, the attic, as well as many ceiling fans.  We had issues with old plaster that needed to be repaired/replaced.  Most of the wood floors were refinished except for in the kitchen/dining room/laundry room where we had to put down new flooring. They added a laundry room with a closet and laundry tub vanity. The entire interior of the house was repainted as well. We took one of the upstairs bathrooms and made it into a bathroom. The toilet is enclosed in its own little room with a pocket door and we have a large shower, vanity and linen closet.  We absolutely love the bathroom. However, our favorite room is the kitchen/sunroom. We had an idea for it from the architect but the architect still had a supporting wall in the plan (since we were knocking out the back corner of the house).  I didn't care for it and Paul came up with exactly what was in my head for a large open room with an island, lots of large windows and a patio door. He took the architect's plans and made them so much better.  He also enlarged the doorway to the rest of the house to make it as large as possible to add to the openness. They also insulated the whole house and put in insulation and ventilation/soffits in the attic in addition to a new floor in the that just had boards over the joists. So they turned a creepy attic into a large usable storage space. Their carpenter is a genius.  The old house had cherry trim around the windows but white trim on the inside of the windows. When replacing the windows he carefully matched new wood with old to create a trim around and inside the window frame to match. He also matched the wood work in the addition so that, even though we wanted white to match our white shaker-style cabinets, the trim was the same style.  Also in the upstairs bathroom because of the new walls, he has to match trim as well. He built a matching frame around a large mirror in the upstairs bath which we love.  We did encounter numerous issues along the way.  The garage floor was not sloped and so did not drain and we ended up with large frozen puddles right after it was completed that winter.  In the process of taking off the end of the house, since we had no central heat, the pipes froze and burst in the basement and the water softener was ruined. The time frame was way longer than we anticipated.  There would be days when no one was working because the subs were working elsewhere. There were smaller issues that are bound to arise when doing construction. So we had our share of frustrating times. However having said that, in the end we absolutely LOVE our "new" farmhouse. Everything that was an issue was addressed and fixed. The garage floor was jack-hammered up and redone at a slope. All the busted pipes and the water softener were replaced. Smaller details were addressed. We have two residences and the farm was going to be our weekend getaway house. But we love it so much that we spend most of our time there and in a couple years we plan to sell our other house and just live there. In the end, Paul told us he wanted us to be happy with the job and he would do whatever he had to do to get the job done right.  I would hire him again knowing that the time frame might be longer than hoped but knowing that, in the end, the job would be done right.
