Recent Review: I contacted Direct Home Improvements through a referral from a friend.  Ann (owner) was able to get me scheduled within a week of me calling for an estimate.  Due to some unforseen circumstances I had to cancel my original appointment but was scheduled within a matter of days of calling.  Jerry the owner came out and listened to what I wanted, he also made recommedations which made the finished remodel exceed my expectations.  Jerry came back the following week after taking measurements with an estimate and timeframe for the project.  Once the contract was signed the original project start date wasn't to begin until early October; but they were finishing existing projects ahead of schedule and was able to start demolition at the end of August.  On the first day of the project Jerry arrived with his contactors and made introductions.  Justin and Larry were the main contractors and they would show up promptly within the time frame they gave us at the end of each day.  They always kept us informed and were considerate throughout the entire project.  They took care in laying cloths to protect our flooring from the garage to the master bedroom and cleaned up once they left each day.  They made suggestions which enhanced the project based on the layout of our bathroom and where existing electrical outlets were. The tile guy was the only minor issue in the project but Ann & Jerry were very attentive to my concerns and took care of the communication issues that we seemed to have with him.  The project did take a week longer due to the cabinet company shipping the wrong size cabinets and having to wait on the right product. Once completed I had the master bath I've been waiting on for eight years.  I would highly recommend the work from Direct Home Improvements.  They exceeded my expectations with the finished product.  Their pricing is fair and there were no new/hidden charges that showed up after the quote.

Recent Review: The work went on pretty well. It took a long time since it was a major project. The employees of Brian Wiland & Associates were very personable, neat and nice. They used some subcontractors and we were very unhappy with them. The owner wasn?t very receptive to our complaints about the subcontractors, but other than that everything else was done. We were pleased with most of the result. We did have some issues and I don?t think my husband would use their services again. Every time when we look at the floor work done by the subcontractors, it reminds us about them. We also had to argue for a lot of the issues. They were great when it came to their punctuality.

Recent Review: The first time we used GALUSHKA HOME IMPROVEMENT was on our master bath. The owner came to our home and looked over the bathroom. He took several notes and asked several questions about what we wanted. We had a quote on work to be done quickly after. Vlad explained that with older homes there are sometimes issues that he can't see- so just be aware.  We had 3 estimates from other contractors but we chose to go with Galushka Home Improvement because their price was fair and they just seemed honest and focused on what we wanted. The job went quickly and was done on schedule and, to my delight, without any unforeseen expenses/costs.  The finished result is excellent.   Removed wall to allow for larger shower Built a closet in hall (created when wall was moved) Built and tiled custom shower Moved and installed new lighting Changed out vanity  Tiled floor Painting walls Replaced all trim and crown molding Replaced pocket door Hung crown molding Replaced and moved toilet We have worked with Galushka Home Improvement on other projects after the bathroom because we are thrilled with the quality of workmanship, value, and professionalism we get with this company.

Recent Review: Install went great. Contacted John on 11/22 and explained the situation. He told me the low cost roe would be for me to orchard all of the materials and have him install.. He old me everything I needed to complete the job. I picked up materials and John was onsite the next day as promised. Install went great. He explained every step of the process to my wife and I. He also left some great follow up advice to prevent issue from reoccurring. He removed the of sinks, snaked both drain, replaced both sinks, and cleaned up everything. I was extremely satisfied with his service, patience, and price. An all around quality job by a quality company. I highly recommend JMA to anyone looking to get a project done right for the right price.

Recent Review: From start to finish Elite Home Remodeling was great to work with.  Robert is the owner of the company and he was the first person we met from Elite, he came to our house, discussed the project with us and provided an estimate in a timely manner.  Robert directed us to a designer who drew up our plans and Robert stayed involved,  providing insight as to how much certain requests would impact our budget. Once the project was started, we had the same 2 men working on our job everyday.  There were also a few other workers who came on and off the project but the consistency of having Scott and Jared be there from beginning to end made it very easy to get updates and feel comfortable that the requests I made would be implemented.  I work from home and I asked them lots of questions along the way, Scott and Jared were very good at explaining what they were doing. The team went out of their way to get us settled into our new space before Christmas, which was much appreciated since we had house guests coming and needed the extra bedroom!  We love our new space, the quality of the work is great!  When I found little things that I wanted them to address, they were taken care of immediately. At the start of the project, Robert told us the job would take 3-4 months and they finished in just under 4 months!  We went over our initial estimate by less than 4% and the overage was driven by specific decisions we made to upgrade certain aspects of the job. I have nothing but positive things to say about Elite Home Remodeling and would absolutely recommend them for a home improvement project. Should we have additional projects in the future, I will definitely go to them.

Recent Review: Moral of this story: Hire H&B Construction Services and run away as fast as you can from Dan Sherwin, working under KIMPRESS, LLC. with his wife. I asked for three quotes from Angie's list. One company never responded, one responded a month later, and H&B responded immediately. I also stumbled across a guy through FB Marketplace that I had purchased some furniture from, who was in construction. I asked him to quote my basement exercise room as well as H&B. The quotes were almost equal. H&B were A rated on Angie's list. References provided by Dan Sherwin, working under the name KimPress, were very good. I chose Dan because he could start in January and was a vet vs H&B starting in May. The job by Dan Sherwin/KimPress was a job from ****. He lies about so much. He broke two mirrors and never offered to replace. I told him to put the mirror hanger in a stud but he chose drywall. This was a heavy 3' x 6' mirror. He quoted 8 can lights, and a dimmer switch. He put in 4 can lights and no dimmer. Would not reduce my quote but yet he wanted to charge me $100 to just hang a light bulb in a storage room. I refused to settle with him early Friday evening which was the last day of the job. I had a balance of about $400-$500. He started getting angry and he said he would not leave my property until he had his final check. I warned him I would call the police and I did. They made him leave and told him he was not to set foot on my property again. Greg, owner of H&B actually spoke with me at length on the phone to guide me in solving my problem with Sherwin. I offered to pay him for his time but he refused and just said a review would be great. Lesson learned. I was anxious to get my exercise room built. I even told H&B I wanted to hire them but didn't want to wait until May. Wait for Greg at H&B Construction. Never use DAN SHERWIN. He does not have any business or customer service skills.

ADave Fox Design Build Remodeling
Main team-Mike Hargraves/Dave Schicks/Louise Budde. Mike, after several months took time to refresh himself from notes before our 2nd meeting. He came to the house once a week checking on things. Dave, our project manager was amazing. He kept a board posted with 2 wks of events. Everyday Dave checked in with us. We could contact them and get a call back the same day. Dave did alot of the work and he wanted perfection and worked until it was. The end results were exactly what we wanted. Louise, the designer. She has great ideas and knows what will work. She keeps the project moving forward by coordinating all supplies needed. The contractors were some of the best we have seen. They are dedicated to doing the best job. All of them were professional and committed. The client is #1 with everyone at Dave Fox. Dave Fox is about pride and integrity. Pride in what they do and in how they do it. Integrity because they stand behind what they tell you. They care about being the best they can be.

AGriffey Remodeling
The job performed was superb. The attention to detail was great. All of the various workers were highly professional. And Charlie takes his customer service very seriously. He communicates well and without delay. We have several other projects around the house to be done in the future. We will definitely use Griffey Remodeling for them.

Horrible Contractor.  The quality of workmanship was awful - ceiling and drywall work were very sloppy and unprofessional. I have to hire someone else to come in and correct the work. Bathroom door did not shut properly due to poor hinge installment.  I wish I could post pictures of the shabby work.  Stairwell is not aligned properly and the trim he damaged was never replaced.  Never finished the basement ceiling in its entirety - didn't install an air vent as requested.  Did not even paint the bedroom to my satisfaction, which is not picky to say the least.  If it requires more than 2 coats - then do it!  Not my fault it was priced for 2 coats only. Frequently did not show up to work and claimed they had.  I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone at anytime.  I am a commercial property manager who has worked in the construction industry for over 12 years and know a good/decent contractor when I see one.  Being new to the area and taking the word of a relative who used this company was a big mistake. I have never used a website like this to review anything, but once again after looking at the workmanship, or lack thereof, just had to say this.  STAY AWAY!!!!

Eric's work was excellent.  The tub/shower is now properly protected for leaks, and the master bedroom shower looks like new.

AKuhns Contracting Inc
Positive experience all around! Tony did a great job working within our budget. Of all the contractors we interviewed, he seemed the most comfortable working with older homes. Dan and his crew were always timely and professional. Any issue that arose during the process was quickly resolved. At the end of each workday, the crew always picked-up. At the end of very dusty weeks, Tony had someone come in to vacuum and dust (nice touch). There were a two minor additions to the project scope while the remodel was underway, which the crew completed quickly and at a reasonable price. We would definitely use Kuhns for another project.

THIS TWO MAN OPERATION DOES EXCELLENT WORK. THEY WERE LESS EXPENSIVE AND MORE THOROUGH THAN THE OTHER QUOTES WE RECEIVED. VERY CAPABLE OF EVERYTHING FROM ELECTRICAL WORK TO PLUMBING TO OFFERING ASSISTANCE AND SUGGESTIONS ABOUT THE FLOOR PLAN.

AMIKE L. CHEESEMAN
This is my third project with Mike Cheeseman.  All of them large like this one.  Extremely professional, competent and responsible.  If I had anything more to remodel, I would not contact any other remodeler.  For example, you cannot tell the difference between the new wood floor in the two remodeled rooms and the 20 year old floor wood floor in the kitchen.

Tom and his team were wonderful to work with from start to finish.... our home remodel project was a massive job. My husband and I purchased a 100 year old home in Marble Cliff which needed plumbing, electric, and several cosmetic updates. Not only did we remodel the existing structure, but we added a two-car garage, family room, master bedroom, master bath, laundry room and kitchenette. Juggling the remodel with the new construction was a challenge but Tom handled the entire project with a sense of calm and control. Tom was very cost-conscious as well. In fact, he worked very closely with us to make sure that we understood the trade-off's and cost increases due to our material choices. Overall, Mike and I would highly recommend Tom and Yontz Builders for any size remodel or new construction project! March 29, 2012

FCraftsmen Service Co
We hired Craftman Service Co (owned by Bill Shephard) thinking that we would save substantial money relative to hiring a full-service contractor. Mr. Shephard's bid was a good 50% lower than other bids, although in the end we didn't save nearly as much since a lot of the finishes such as toilet, vanity, mirror, shower enclosure, hardware and fixtures, etc. were purchased separately. The other contractors did include an allowance for these items on their contract. What we didn't anticipate is the loss of time and peace of mind that working with this company would turn into. Tear up of the old bathroom went well and reasonably fast. Dust was well controlled. Mr. Shephard was quite pushy about getting rid of the bathroom?s built-in, floor-to-ceiling cabinet and using up the space to enlarge the shower (we explained to him that the cabinet was sorely needed). Luckily, we stood firm and the layout of the new bathroom is pretty much identical to the old one. He installed the shower threshold sloping along the length rather than toward the shower. During the time he was making it, Mr. Shephard insisted that?s the way it should be (?) and that the glass enclosure should be cut at an odd angle to match it up. The glass company had to cut the door to accommodate the odd slope. Bottom line: water does pool on the threshold and runs to the floor every time the shower is used. When the bathroom floor was torn up, the original (50 year old) door threshold got exposed, and it was clearly worn and ugly relative to the rest of the bedroom floor (which has recently been refinished). Before the floor tile was installed, I asked Mr. Shephard if it would be possible to replace that board, which would have been a 5 minute job at that point and virtually impossible after installing the new floor. He willfully ignored my request and proceeded to install the bathroom floor. Bottom line: There is now a 50-year-old-looking board between the new bathroom floor and refinished bedroom floor, which is the first thing you see as you enter the bathroom and sticks out like a sore thumb. Not good. The tile work was a disaster. (1) The three walls that have a bull-nose were laid with the tile running from left to right whereas the bull-nose was laid right to left. As a consequence, the grout lines very visibly don?t line up. (2) He left a 1? grout line between the door casing and the adjacent tiles, which would have been very easy to avoid. The drywall on both sides of the wall had to be torn down anyway in order to install a new pocket door, so the door opening could have been easily moved ?? to one side in order to avoid this eye sore of a grout line. (3) The tiles are generally not well installed as there are uneven gaps and not flush everywhere. (4) The ceramic tile we chose for the floor has a pattern consisting of a darker patch on a lighter background. The floor as installed looks like a checkerboard as he managed to butt up the dark patch of one tile with the lighter area of the adjacent ones. The bathroom floor is really small, and making it look right would have implied rotating 3 or 4 tiles 90 degrees one way or the other (it?s more complicated to describe than it is to do it). When I politely brought up my discontent with the overall tile job to Mr. Shephard, I got his typical shoulder shrug and deer in the headlights look. Bottom line: Despite Mr. Shephard?s big claims about making it right for the customer, I was never given the opportunity to be 100% satisfied with his heinous tile job. Mr. Shephard built the abovementioned bathroom cabinet and nailed the maple face to the sides, then covered the holes and gaps with putty (there were LOTS of gaps). It?s the first time I see a fine cabinet nailed together. When I asked why he didn?t use pocket screws, he said ?it?s not possible to do.? One of the shelves fell down in the middle of the night. When I brought this up, he argued with me that the shelf had been installed correctly (obviously not the case). Given his negative response, I realized that he wasn?t interested in making it right to us, so I yanked the face frame and rebuilt it with pocket screws; I also installed the shelves correctly and repainted and stained everything. It now looks perfect. (To his credit, he helped me identify the way to make the stain color match the vanity, which had been purchased separately.) Bottom line: his stubbornness and unwillingness to do things the right way forced me to spend my own time to fix major things that he was being paid to do. What makes this especially aggravating is that all the while he kept boasting about being ?a professional? who has ?especial tricks?, etc. etc. Pocket door. He left a huge 3/8? gap between the door casing and the wall. It looked as though the entire door assembly was coming off. Look around and you won?t see a professionally-installed door look like that, yet for Mr. Shephard, that was normal and easily fixable with? spackle (lots of spackle!) As the days and weeks went on, he didn?t apply his ?fix?, and at that point it was obvious I would have to step in again. I yanked all the trim pieces and re-nailed them carefully, and now the trim looks as it should. Bottom line: that door job was heinous top to bottom (including not only the trim but the awful stain job as well) and yet again I had to spend my valuable time to fix something he should have done right or fix in the first place. Oh, and he left pieces of plastic wrap in the hidden pocket door which makes a nice sound of crumpled plastic bags every time the door is used. Very unprofessional install. The rest of the doors he installed all had problems of some sort, except for one. He left the last pocket door unfinished (the drywall around it is obviously unfinished). By that time the job was dragging on and on for weeks on end, so it became apparent that a) he had totally lost interest in getting my project finished and b) we would have to cut our losses and finish it ourselves or hire somebody else to do it. And so it was, but to add insult to injury, he demanded full payment for the unfinished job. In fact, he insulted me and belittled me on the phone. He said ?you are the type of guy can?t do anything for cr@p and then expect others to do it right.? Well, whether or not can I do things myself is beside the point, he i the "professional" hired to do the job right in the first place. As I said above, I stepped in only because of his inability and unwillingness to make it right for us. He said that I had "ruined his work" (wow!!). He told me ?You have problems? and ?You have to look at myself in the mirror? all the while he called me a ?bully? (I never insulted him whereas he did, which formally makes him the bully). At some point in the conversation he said that I could ?stick the invoice up my a@s,? which got me really confused since a minute later he was demanding full payment for that same invoice. Consider that at the beginning (when no checks had been written yet) his attitude had been quite different: "I am in this profession for the satisfaction of it"; "It's your money so you are the one who should be 100% satisfied with the finished job"; etc. etc. All this talk now rings of utterly insincere. Very, very unpleasant experience. I paid him the full amount he demanded. Other aggravations: - He would rip into previous customers that he didn?t like or were ?difficult? in his eyes. I?ve never seen a so-called professional do that. - He likes to show up to the job site without proper materials and tools, always helping himself with lumber, paint, whatever is around the house that he forgets (mostly without asking). - He will not shop around. He was pushy about using his own electrician which would have been much more expensive than the one actually used after shopping around. - He and his personnel took the habit of randomly using all of the bathrooms in the house (despite my request that they use the one downstairs) forcing us to clean bathrooms everyday throughout the length of the job. I pointed this out to him a couple of times, to no avail. In summary: If you are looking for a discount contractor and don?t mind the lack of attention to detail and the customer-is-never-right attitude, Craftman Services will probably be fine. Otherwise, stay clear.
