Recent Review: Water was leaking into our crawl space under our house.  Called plumber about 3:00PM and he arrived about 4:00PM same day.  He replaced the relief valve about 1 hour later.     I was impressed with his service and called him again to clean our furnace this week which he did this week.  He charged me $95.00 for the work which is about average for this area.    I will call him again for similar work.

Recent Review: After the gas company shut off gas due to leaks on a very cold day. Comfort Zone responded within a couple of hours with 2 service workers ( one experienced and the other less so) and fixed the leaks and got the gas turned back on within a couple of hours. They returned the next day to install a new hot water tank. Although expensive, they were, polite, helpful and efficient. Overall a good experience.

Recent Review: I had a boderus oil-fired boiler that was smoking alot and one zone that was always warm, even when off. I also had an improper and unsafe oil tank filler/vent pipe and oil supply line. Steve came and provided a very knowledgeable diagnosis- the burner was improperly cleaned by another provider (I think it was Empire Heating - occurred before I bought the house) and the burner was missing screws that hold it firmly in place! That solved my smoking problem. The zone always on was a very tricky item -- I was getting heat siphoning through my system (backwards) even when all the zone valves were off. Steve figured it out quickly and replaced the pump with a pump that had a built-in check valve. A super job on a tricky issue -- Steve had come highly recommended by a retired boiler repairman (neighbor). I was very pleased. Steve fixed everything!! (I replaced the thermostats myself).

They showed up when they said they would and they installed equipment that was proper for the size of the house. They were very available by phone and their entire crew was very nice to work with, very pleasant.

FLowe's Home Improvement
We heard water leaking into the crawl space of our home and could see water leaking from the vicinity of the hot water tank.  I called plumber Wrenn's Plumbing and Heating.  Plumber installed new relief valve on the new tank which cost $111.00.  I called Lowes and they told me to call the manufacturer of the hot water tank.  Water also ran under the floor into adjoining bathroom and caused damage by heaving the floor.  Vinyl floor has to be torn up and underlay replaced.  Vinyl floor then has to be replaced which will cost about $1000.00.  American ---hot water tank manufacturer advised me that will pay for plumbing bill but will not pay for bathroom floor damage because the new hot water tank was not installed properly.  Their case #is 06690198.    I called Lowes Headquarters and they denied me again both at store and headquarters level insisting the Hot water tank was installed properly.     If true, I should not have sustained any bathroom floor damage.  There is a vinyl pipe extending from relief valve to under the floor  level that was apparently not reinstalled properly during the replacement of the new tank.    The plumber advised me that the Lowes installer also did a poor job of reinstalling the floor under the new hot water tank.  The installer charged me about $395.00 to install the new tank and new tank was not firmly attached to the new floor which was poorly replaced by the installer.  Tank does not appear to be very stable when he applied some modest pressure with his hand.    I would never purchase another large appliance or never use their installer again.

Dealer seemed unfamiliar with and unaware of procedures for servicing a hot water tank under warranty. At first, they were not going to honor the warranty arrangement offered by hot water heater dealer, which provides for direct reimbursement, until I contacted the water heater company. Turns out this company is a local authorized dealer for that brand of water heater, and I think I got them in a bit of and quot;hot waterand quot; by reporting they were not willing to honor the warranty and have the work covered. Eventually, after several phone calls, they did. Service was ok but grumbly, certainly not friendly. Ability or willingness to work with warrantied products not really evident; I shouldn't have to coach them through the warranty procedure. Diagnostics shoddy; they replaced a part without a thorough analysis of what was actually happening.Punctuality good, and the quality of the work appears to be good.

After two tech visits and a total of about 20 minutes looking at my unit (all visits combined), my issue was never fixed nor was it even diagnosed (but that is not really my issue). On none of the visits did the tech leave behind any kind of work order or receipt for parts and labor, so I could understand what my bill would be. I did finally receive an invoice and they charged me $183.23 for the thermostat and $89.95 for the labor of installation ($295.03 in total).  I checked online for vendors of the same thermostat (oem product, same item number) and found a NY supplier that sold it for $88.95 vs. what Chemung Heating charged me ($183.23). That is when I realized Chemung Heating does not do any kind of part sourcing to try and get their customers the best price. They are either being outrageously charged by their suppliers or they are price gouging their customers. Either reason equals terrible customer satisfaction. I would have no problem if the pricing was close, but nearly a $100.00 difference is crazy and just shows how little effort is put into sourcing their parts. I sent the information I found back to the Chemung Heating payable person, with the pricing information along with my overall dissatisfaction with their service and practices. I received no discount and paid the full invoice. I did not expect anything different from them at this point. I used to like Chemung Heating and used them many times prior to this last event. Ever since they starting sending out the 20+ kid to do repair calls on his own, the service and practices have gone down the toilet. I could see quality issues immediately. This was the last time I would spend my hard earned money on sub par service and terrible part pricing. I did find another service provider. The tech spent a hour looking over my system and explaining what they were doing along the way. They found my actual issue (which had nothing to do with the Hot Water Heater Thermostat, and the old one was just fine). This service provider was honest and detailed in their analysis and made sure I was fully aware of the charges as they went along. At the end of the process, I spent a good amount of money but I fixed the issue. The nearly $600.00 I spent with Chemung Heating was a wash as none it helped me get to the bottom of my issue. This new provider charged reasonable rates on their labor and parts (yes, I checked) but the main difference was the amount of time they spend actually trying to determine the problem. At the end of the day, my issue was fixed, I found a quality vendor for my heating needs, and I learned to check part prices before allowing any work to be done.  I wish Chemung Heating luck........and hopefully they can turn things around, but they have lost me as a customer.
