Zappatella Construction
Recent Review: Carpenter ants had gotten in walls and were destroying structure of shop/garage. The exterior wall was torn off along with the insulation. All new was replaced along with placing ant deterrent. Outside walls were scraped and sanded (8' by 30' wall) along with back wall and garage door. External Concrete block walls were coated with fiberglass impregnated Conproco. Three foot wide 5-step field stone stairway was handmade with stone gathered from property. Prompt each day Would call ahead if 'something came up'. Very responsible Meticulous work Very knowledgeable about the materials they worked with. You get what you pay for... worth the money for certain. I see the work done as an enhancement and investment. On the negative side was the payment. I did not ask for a quote. I should have. This job was done as a 'pay as you go'. I had a business for 14 years and know how difficult it is to balance skill and business. Zappatella Construction is very good at the trades but the receipts for payment were lacking in detail. I just got the hours worked and materials receipts. The date and what was done during that time was not recorded in the bill. I suggest getting an approximate quote leaving room for 'extras' and unexpected costs. Don't 'nickel & dime' contractors but get a rough idea upfront as to the total costs.

B & B CONSOLIDATED
Recent Review: Terrible. Not only did they leave us with a complete mess, they never paid the electrician they subcontracted. He's been in contact with us since and we showed him the receipts. He informed us they lied to him saying we hadn't paid them and they never paid him for the work he did, which was the only good work done on this entire project. B & B Consolidated. They left an opening for a ceiling light fixture 9" out of place. The electrician had to open a new hole for proper placement & we had to repair the ceiling ourselves. Because they didn't tighten the drywall to the ceiling, when the electrician hung the ceiling fixtures it popped screws in dry wall creating holes. An electrical outlet was covered with dry wall requiring electrician to locate & cut opening for same. This caused more popped screws. Improperly covered seams, & unprimed dry wall areas inside all closets. Dimensional paint streaks on ceiling and walls. Many areas, including corners, around doorways & dry wall repairs not primed. This is evident by running hand across and coming out white with dry wall dust. Dry wall opening left too large for light fixture to cover. Shower unit installed out of square which will resulted in floor tile now being out of square. Kirk Brickwood promised to cover & protect the new heating system, hardwood floors, windows & wood shutters. Nada. Damage to wood floors, new baseboard heaters & new replacement windows. Extreme amounts of dirt and debris inside of new vinyl windows tracks. All areas left extremely dirty. The electrical inspector never showed up for the final inspection. Our attempts to contact & resolve issues with contractor failed. He would not respond. He put a lien against our home for the balance of $1460.00. We paid this to keep our credit sound. We feel Kirk Brickwood blackmailed us by putting a lien against our home instead of contacting us to resolve the issues I mentioned in my complaint. We also reported him to the Better Business Bureau. They had no better luck with him than we did.
