Recent Review: Doug is a one-man show, taking care of creating the plans, getting the building permit, arranging the required inspections by the town, demolishing and carting away our old deck, digging and pouring footings, and laying out and constructing the new deck. The final result was excellent, and we now have a sturdy deck that not only looks great, but will last a long time. Doug did a fine job coping with a lot of rain and the resulting mud, slowing things down as he had to remove a fair amount of excess mud and cart it away. In the process, much of our lawn was damaged by his equipment but Doug went the extra mile, volunteering to spread a load of top soil and grass seed to help everything get back in shape. If it weren’t for all the rain, this level of damage would not have occurred. The only possible, but small, drawback was that he works completely alone, resulting in a total construction time that was a bit longer than if a crew of people were working. Doug estimated the job at 5 days, and if it weren’t for all the issues with rain and mud, one delay in the delivery of out-of stock materials, and a half day family emergency he had to take care of, that guess would have been spot on. All along, he was responsive to our questions and communications, and easy to work with. My feeling is that he might cost a bit more than other potential contractors, but his workmanship and desire to satisfy the customer make the extra costs worth it.
