Recent Review: I would recommend Highlander Hardwood Floors in a heartbeat to anyone who is interested in doing their floors. John, the owner is very professional and personable. He goes out of his way to help you get the job done. And his crew does an excellent job. We had recently bought a town home, that had carpeting that needed replacing, and with Pergo floors over the original tiles in the entry foyer and kitchen area. Our original plan was to install hardwood on both the levels, and replace the carpet in the stairs with new carpet and leave the Pergo laminate as it is, to stick to our budget. Given the scale of the job, I got 7 quotes but never really felt comfortable until I found Highlander floors. John was able to put my mind at ease during the first meeting itself. I found him professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. And honestly I would have picked John even if the price wasn?t as attractive as what he offered. We used select grade White Oak, and John, was able to throw in the replacement of the Laminate area - which included the demolition of the laminate, underlying tile and concrete at a really reasonable price, which made it a great deal for me. He also gave me great advice that helped me save some serious money. He was able to sand and stain the pine stairway that was under the carpeting of the town home as a temporary solution for free, where all other contractors told me that it would need replacing with new wood (@approx $1K-$3K more ) or new carpeting. Not only did this save me money, but it job was done so well that I don?t see a need to replace it even in the future. Once the floors were installed, Alex, who takes care of the sanding coated multiple stain samples on the floor, based on the photos of floors we showed him from Houzz (also a great resource). The stain samples don?t always look like the finished product, but we were able to make a judgment on the stain we wanted based on his advice. We picked 'Early American', and within a few days the floors were sanded, stained, and sealed with water based Polyurethane, which we preferred because of the quicker off-gassing time . Now I did not know that this was included, but the floors have a high end, hand scrapped look. They exceeded all my expectations, the floors are just gorgeous. The quality of the work was so good that it has transformed the look of our town house into a luxury condo. My wife who wasn't a real fan of the place, has fallen in love with it. Who knew floors alone could make such an impact on the space. Having dealt with a lot of contractors in the last few months since we bought this house, I can honestly say that John was the best thing to happen to us. He looks out for you like a friend and also gave me great tips on all parts of home improvement, which as a first time buyer, I am really grateful for. He also helped me choose and then installed new baseboards and quarter rounds at a huge discount. He always responds to your calls quickly, no matter what time of day or day of the week. He gets the job done on time as promised, which was a big deal for someone who was held at the whims and mercy of the other contractors I dealt with. And in my case was willing to work around my convoluted schedule. You cant go wrong with John. I just hope that by the time I am ready for my next big home improvement project, John would have expanded from floors, to everything else I need :).
