I hold a strong emphasis on strength, durability and craftsmanship with the service to back it up. For your home, don’t you deserve the best? Recent Review: Project was well timed and progressed seamlessly through various stages - demolition, framing, installation, finish carpentry and painting so that we lacked access to the second floor for only 1 night. Planning including multiple house calls for precise measurements to maximize dimensions, selecting style options and consulting with lumberyard for stair dimensions and details. The crew was experienced, took pride in their work, and did not skimp on quality or details, independent of time.

Recent Review: We had been trying to get our pull down attic stairs fixed for several months but fixes proposed by a variety of contractors didn't seem appropriate. The salesperson for Jeff Tallon was great - up front about safety concerns regarding a "fix" and showed us where previous fixes had been done. Based on his very reasonable advice, we replaced the whole thing. The available attic stairs did not fit the space of our 50 year old attic stairs, so they came up with very appropriate modifications. The actual project was one day, the person doing the job was professional and friendly. They also included a reasonably priced replacement of insulation and covering that was discovered in the attic. I would definitely hire them again.

Recent Review: Doug never show up when he said he was suppose to. He started the project the end of February and we fired him at the end of September. We paid him more than half upfront he left things half done he also kept changing the price on things as he brought in other people to do his work which was never discussed. Tile was not layed out properly that the tile kept popping up. He never put support under the bathtub in the bathroom. Hot and cold on opposite sides of sink. We had to hire someone else to fix because he never showed up to finish the whole bathroom. He never finished the recess lighting or the door on the bathroom, molding or the ledges. He did not put railing up on stairs. So, needless to say we had enough trying to get a hold of him to finish the work that took months to do. When we let him go and expected us to finish paying him when he never finish and fix the work he messed up.

It all went very smoothly.  There's little detail to report.  He arrived on time and completed the job by day's end.  One small change was using pine boards rather than pressure treated boards (as quoted) for the back-kicks of each step.  He explained that this was due to the pressure treated boards being a bit too thick. This would have left to little overhang on each step.

My stairs were falling in my house, it's a common problem in older houses, Clayton went above and beyond getting the stairs back into position, he's clearly wants to provide perfect workmanship. For the other job I had a wood support column in the basement that was starting to bow, he replaced it with a lally column, he also reinforced the connection between the floor and the wall. I will be using Clayton again, he takes the time to answer all your questions, he actually makes you feel at ease and comfortable through his sharing of knowledge and he provides a very good service.

Dave always shows up pronto and fixes it -- two thumbs up. On this visit, he helped us begin to handicap-access the house for an elderly relative who suddenly lost the ability to climb stairs anymore, so time was of the essence. Dave came quickly and accomplished the most essential needs i.e., installing grab bars in the bathroom, and opening a door between the front and back of the house so as to avoid all stairs. The door hadn't been opened in decades, and was actually sealed shut, so it wasn't a straightforward task. He worked carefully and succeeded without damaging door or wallpaper. Very pleased!

APenfield Hardware And Handyman
Dave from Penfield Hardware and Handyman initially did a walkthrough of all my projects that I needed quoted (there were 12 different ones). He was friendly, knowledgeable, asked questions along the way and provided great advice. He was very friendly, easy to talk to and seemed trustworthy – I liked him immediately. For items on my list that he didn’t do (i.e. gutter cleaning, replacing a garage door), Dave was able to provide referrals for other businesses that he uses and trusts. The next step was the estimates, which is always a little scary, never knowing if you’re getting a good deal or not. I received an email from him a week later, detailing out each of the projects, not just a total cost, but all the steps he would take to complete the work. I was overjoyed at the prices, they were very reasonable, so we scheduled time to have him start with 4 of the smaller tasks and then talk in greater detail about a couple of the more involved projects. Dave came today to replace the kitchen faucet, replace 3 outdoor lights, fix a toilet and begin repairs to my concrete garage floor. He was as pleasant as ever, his work was excellent, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. Next I plan to have him remove a wall in my living room and install 2 pocket doors, and replace metal stair railings with new wood ones. Dave has a new customer for life, and I highly recommend him.
