Recent Review: I hired Miguel Amaya for three jobs. It was a company called MD Construction when I first contact them and then convert to M Amaya Construction when the job was done. I should the first customer of this new company name. During the work, I was able to discuss with Miguel over details and all three jobs were done nicely. I plan to follow up on the result in the next few years.

Recent Review: Patrick Kelly has a great eye for stacked stone walls. His work is second to none when it comes to building and preparing these types of walls. Gave a full written estimate before the work and stuck to the price. I am having him back now to add a stone patio for me. Very reasonable pricing for the work and materials.

Service was very good. Workers were very skilled in taking the old wall out as it was in a difficult place for the machinery to get to. Owner was on the job everyday and workers were pleasant and professional. New looks great!

Carpenter ants had gotten in walls and were destroying structure of shop/garage. The exterior wall was torn off along with the insulation. All new was replaced along with placing ant deterrent. Outside walls were scraped and sanded (8' by 30' wall) along with back wall and garage door. External Concrete block walls were coated with fiberglass impregnated Conproco. Three foot wide 5-step field stone stairway was handmade with stone gathered from property. Prompt each day Would call ahead if 'something came up'. Very responsible Meticulous work Very knowledgeable about the materials they worked with. You get what you pay for... worth the money for certain. I see the work done as an enhancement and investment. On the negative side was the payment. I did not ask for a quote. I should have. This job was done as a 'pay as you go'. I had a business for 14 years and know how difficult it is to balance skill and business. Zappatella Construction is very good at the trades but the receipts for payment were lacking in detail. I just got the hours worked and materials receipts. The date and what was done during that time was not recorded in the bill. I suggest getting an approximate quote leaving room for 'extras' and unexpected costs. Don't 'nickel & dime' contractors but get a rough idea upfront as to the total costs.

FSolid Rock Stone Builders
Project was started at least 3 to 4 weeks late heading in to bad weather time here. The stone wall was nice but the repair to the retaining wall was totally botched. The wall was bowing out due to excessive water . Their plan was a total failure and the wall was bowed out again this spring. The owner said he would come up with another plan and repair it. They didn't show up until mid August and took down half the wall and left it with a big pile of stones in front of the entrance to our cellar. I wound up having to contact another contractor(at a substantial additional expense), to finish the repair and install proper drainage. They also left our front yard a mess and were supposed to make that right and never did. We asked for him for some restitution but of course never heard from him. It seems like the owner shows up and leaves workers behind so he can go off to get another job. Needless to say we have never had this bad of a job done and have never been as dissapointed with someone we thought was a quality contractor.

They duct tape my plumbing. The roof fell apart. The front steps caved in, the walls all cracked. The stairs broke. The door to the front came out from the wall. The put the siding on wrong-took materials. The roof leaked. The tube fell through to the bottom floor. They have judgments against them and have been taken to court numerous times. BEWARE Gambled money for materials at a casino.

It went very well! Tom came and did measurements and gave us a very accurate estimate on the spot. That night he returned with the written proposal to sign. He said they would get to it soon depending on weather (they were also working on roofs and good weather would have them on roofs). The next morning he applied for the building permit and the morning after that we got a call saying the workers were on the way. They arrived with the digger and my husband asked if they would be able to use it to pull out the ugly schrubs in the front of the house and they did that first at no extra charge. They worked in a timely fashion and got the job done quickly but professionally. It was basically done the first day but the worker came the next day and did some things and checking. I think it was another day and he tarred the wall and then the backfilling was done. When the bill was sent it had the price of the permit which we were informed would be added but the amount of the permit was not accurate. The charge was $100 which seemed high but the office also included a copy of the permit which was actually $35 but it was easy to see how the mistake happened as the hand written receipt for the permit was written like a check with 00 over 100 and the 100 was right by the word dollars...easy mistake. When I called the office Jen was very friendly and apologetic and said to take the extra off the bill. All in all it was a good experience.
