Recent Review: Graves brothers was very professional and did a great job with all the installations.  There was a quality problem with the glass in the doors and Graves Brothers went to bat with the manufacturer and distributor. They made the problem right without any impact to us as the customer. They were exceptional, trustworthy and affordable.

Recent Review: Our house is 25 years old.  We needed new windows so this whole project started by going to a home show.  We made appointments with 3 different contractors.  As soon as we got home, we signed up for Angie's List and looked up all 3.  Pace was our first appointment (and also the one with the best ratings on Angie's List).  We were so impressed with our sales person Larry, we didn't need to look any further.  We went with a rough install on the windows (as opposed to replacement windows) because we wanted as much glass as we had and because the casings and jambs really needed replacement also.  A rough install adds quite a bit to the cost but it was needed.  We weren't sure how white vinyl windows would look with wood casing and jambs.  Our old windows were wood.  Our salesperson Larry said let me go grab something and ran out to his car.  He came back in with white duck tape and put it one of the wood windows so we could see what it would look like!  We went to Pace to see our sales person Larry the following weekend to sign the contract.  When he came to our home we hadn't really decided on the slider but looked at them at Pace's showroom and decided we wanted one.  We initially decided on a 5-1/2 foot slider because that was our opening with the french doors.  I really wanted the blinds in between the glass but to get that we had to go to a 6 foot door (and a new header).  After a week or so we decided to upgrade to the 6 foot door.  Our salesperson gave us a great deal on the upgrade.  As for the front door, our doors on the front of the house are green on the outside and that's how the new door came to us.  We didn't have to do anything as far as painting the door.  We wanted to stay with wood casings and jambs on the doors and windows so Pace delivered the wood to us ahead of time so we could get it all stained and vanished prior to install.  Install of the windows and slider was done in 2 days.  The front door install was a week later and took only a few hours.  These guys who installed were great!  They were so professional and very picky about their work.  There was no mess left.  In fact, I'm pretty sure the carpet was cleaner when they left than before they came!  And they even washed the new windows after installing them!  They also took time explaining how to work the windows as far as tilting to clean.  They also made sure we inspected everything and were happy with everything prior to leaving. Not sure we're suppose to mention names but Bob, Tom, Mike and Pat are the best installers we could have ever asked for!  We really can't say enough good things about Pace!  We would recommend them without a doubt!

Recent Review: Morse did a great job--as mentioned, this is an old house--circa 1870--so all the doorways were non-standard dimensions, and everything had to be custom built at their mill here in town. BACK-DOOR:  they sized a fiberglass, Energy Star grade door--four solid panels, with two small double pane windows up top. The existing frame was ancient, and had been poorly repaired at some point in the long ago, with significant splitting and gaps on all sides. In addition to cutting and building the door to match the opening, they completely rebuilt the frame and sill, did some interior carpentry work to repair pre-existing damage to part of the adjacent wall, installed new trim and weather stripping, as well as replacing the locks / hardware.   FRENCH DOORS:  again with the custom sizing--also, they installed a wooden frame in the opening to take into account the settling that had occurred in the house and so created a squared off doorway within the slightly angled existing pass-through. The doors are pine, six glass panels on each. There was a bit of extra glue on some of the panels that was easily removed with an X-acto knife, but this was a minor quibble--the finished work looks terrific. INTERIOR DOOR:  yes, a non-standard interior door (very narrow) that had to be custom made for the space. Solid pine, nothing fancy, looks great. Of note, the house and work areas were absolutely spotless, really imaculate. Better than what I had left, in fact! They were right on time, finished on schedule, and were A-Plus all around. Would refer anyone to them for this kind of work--plus, everying is done locally, in their own mill right here in town, so that's good to know.

The process went very well from start to finish. The sales rep was very knowledgeable, and convinced us that French doors were not the way to go for our situation. As a result, we had them install a sliding door. It's a dream to operate, especially in comparison to the old door. I am hoping that we experience much less heat loss through the new door, but that will be tested this winter.

The headboard needed four large bolts which he didn't have. He left to quickly buy them at Home Depot and used some custom fittings I had for the bedframe to the mattress frame. It was a delicate job, involving precise drilling close to the edge of the bedframe. He did the job perfectly and cleaned up afterwards. Regarding the legs to the table, which was essentially brand new, he recommended we check with the manufacturer to see whether the legs were sized wrong. As it turned out, no alternative legs were available - but the manufacturer agreed to take them back and re-cut and re-finish them. Thus Dave saved me money with his suggestion not to do the job himself. Also the legs will be trimmed by the manufacturer, ensuring fit and proper finish. We agreed that the sticking French Doors are best dealt with in the spring. I will surely call back to have this done. He said that minor sanding and refinishing of the trim would solve the problem.

APace Windows & Doors
First of all, Pace replaced all the other windows in my house 12 years ago. That was a big job including installing a custom garden window in the kitchen and replacing all the old sixties sliders with larger double-hung windows (about 18" taller than the original windows). That was major construction for all the upstairs windows and I have been extremely happy with the installation and windows. My only complaint could be that the windows are not self-cleaning but I won't even go there because the windows are so easy to clean, it's almost a pleasure.  At that time, I did not replace the picture window (10' x 4') in the living room nor the other window on the same wall (about 4' x 4') because I wasn't sure what I wanted to do (I considered replacing the smaller window with a french door). It finally came to me what I wanted to do: remove both windows and the wall between them and have one long expanse of window across the wall.  When Dave from Pace came out to talk to me about it, it took a bit for him to grasp what I wanted to do because it was so huge. Essentially, Pace would have to reconstruct the wall (new headers and footers) in order to support the four side-by-side picture windows that would span the distance. Once he saw my vision and we arrived at a price I could afford, he was as excited about it as I was. It was really awesome to watch him get it and to come on board with what I wanted to do.  A few weeks after we signed the contract, he and an expert came out to take technical measurements. Everything was going to have to be planned and perfect in order for this to work. At installation time, there would be a huge hole in the back of my house so the new windows needed to go in that same day.  On the day of the installation, the head installer arrived with two assistants. They set up a plastic barrier so we could keep the rest of the house cool and free of critters while they reconstructed the wall. It kinda looked like a haz mat site! They got right to work removing the old windows and took them to dispose of them. They started to cut out the wall but we discovered a wire in the wall we didn't know about. The installer capped it off which left me without power to the middle zone of the house (including the stove and microwave). The refrigerator, air conditioning, TVs, and computers still worked so this was a livable solution for me until an electrician could come the following week.  Installing the header and the new windows went extremely smoothly. The team worked well together and there was nary a hitch. I took pictures of the entire process, and even a video of one of the window panels going in.  At the end of the first day, the windows were in and any openings were sealed. They came back on the second day to do all the finishing work, both inside and out. You can't tell they had to remove and replace any siding on the outside and I only have one small place to touch up with paint on the inside. I was planning on having to repaint the entire wall so this was great.  So, how do the windows look? Spectacular! Whenever anyone comes into the house, they are drawn to the windows and always walk right up to them and look out into the woods behind. It is everything I imagined and more. It really has changed the look of the house in a major way -- it looks so much more modern. I am entirely pleased and highly recommend Pace.
