Recent Review: Crowdsourcing site for interior and architectural design. Interesting service and if you are comfortable with internet shopping and a little risk, IMHO, worth the cost.  My project:   Redesigning kitchen and family room (great room concept) and we needed interior design/style advise for the project. The site posts a "competition" for the project, you determine what amount of money to offer for the competition (site recommends an amount, but the customer is free to change if needed.) Within 20 days, we had 20 designers signed up for our competition from all over the world. In the end, 8 designers submitted designs. We picked our top 4, rated all designs and the top three were selected based on ratings -- one from France, USA and Serbia. Honorable Mention went to country of Georgia. First, second and third place received a portion of the award money.   Pros and Cons:  You, the customer, must be comfortable with the risk of paying for something and not knowing if you'll like the result. For me, this was part of the process and an acceptable risk.  You don't have a face to face consultation. The site has a "wall" where you can post ideas, photos, communication with the designers or architects. I resolved this by posting my houzz.com design book on the wall to give designers ideas of our likes, dislikes, etc. You can also post requirements and constraints for your project. Toward the end of the competition (a deadline is set when you submit a project) a lot of communication occurs with the architects and designers. Expect it, it's part of the process.  The website is fairly rudimentary. Online/chat help is available but is somewhat hit and miss.  You can send designs to friends and family to rate. This is helpful in making a decision.  Overall, we got a number of ideas between the designers and were very pleased with the process and project.

Recent Review: The crew was on site and ready to roll by 8am at the latest, to get the most out of everyday! The were polite and professional, while working around myself- and my children. The living room is now tongue and groove pine throughout, the wall separating the kitchen and living room was removed, the kitchen ceiling was raised 5ft- with the tongue and groove pine on the kitchen ceiling with a HUGE ceiling fan. The rooms feel so much bigger and it feels warm and inviting now! Very reasonably priced for the amount of work done! I would highly recommend to anyone looking to remodel their home!

AHoney-Do Home Repair
As these were upper floor rooms we were worried this may have been a more serious problem such as water damage from the roof or something similar. Martin quickly reassured us that upon inspection the cracks were due to stress (settling) and that the repair work was more cosmetic and not costly infrastructure repairs. He explained it would be a 2-3 visit process that would entail cleaning around the crack, replacing mesh tape, applying a mud compound, and then painting the impacted areas. Martin was extremely professional and really accommodated our busy work schedule by coming in during the early evening hours and finishing up on a Saturday morning. Without even charging extra for what some may of considered after normal business hours. His estimate was very fair and the price only ended up being $30 extra due to additional paint materials needed. The price difference for the quality of work was well worth it because the repainting matched the existing colors and ceilings texture perfectly.  You can't tell the difference in what was repaired and what was not.  He is now the first number in our contact list should we need future repairs to our home.

Fantastic company and people to work with. Everything was top quality at the best price we found. They insisted on everything happening on time and to the finest detail. Great advice as we went along too. We could not have been happier with every aspect of the service.

ATongue & Groove Carpentry
We are very happy with the work that Mark did to finish our basement. He was an absolute pleasure to work with. He was always on time, he had some great suggestions to improve on our intended design, and the work was top notch. Mark is one of those rare contractors who puts customer service at the top of the list. His team was polite and friendly, and cleaned the work area thoroughly at the end of each day. They worked quickly as well, completing all work within 4 weeks. As we were removing some lally columns to make the basement space more open, the first thing Mark did was bring in a structural engineer to review the loads and determine how best to shore up the beams. The work that Mark did would have easily cost me more than twice as much with the other contractor who quoted the job. I recommend Tongue & Groove 100% and will definitely hire them again!

Mark and his crew did an excellent job. He even threw in a couple of things I needed done around the house staying within the quoted price. its very refreshing to find an honest dependable contractor who gives you a fair price and sticks to it then exceeds your expectations on top of it.

AGreen Age Builders
ATC Builders worked with us to transform our dark and choppy log home's first floor into a brighter, lighter, open space.  Our kitchen remodel spilled into the living and dining rooms by refinishing the floors, sheet rocking a wall to unify and lighten the dining room and kitchen and removed a wall that cut the kitchen off from the living room.  There are no square walls in a log home, so customization and engineering are key components to remodeling.  Many builders have these skills, but what you get with ATC is also some wonderful craftsmanship.  When I asked them to repurpose a display cabinet by cutting it in half and have it flank a new custom banquet in the dining room, instead of pushing back, they thought it was a great idea.  It wasn't an easy task, but the end result is a unique show stopper.   Instead of upper cabinets, we wanted open shelving for our dishes.  Abe was not satisfied with the end result and came back to make the changes to his satisfaction.  That's his satisfaction folks, not mine, I thought they were ok.  After the rework, he was right, they look fantastic. We had some unsightly plumbing fixtures for the upstairs that had previously been hidden in the wall that was removed, I asked for a small broom/utility closet to be built to hide them.  Instead of a plain solid door, David constructed a beautiful custom wood door. A great feature I hadn't expected!  After lots of notching, cutting custom trim, building out window frames, piecing in new wood flooring to match existing, refinishing floors, customizing a rebuilt kitchen cabinet, re-purposing a display cabinet, building a banquet with storage drawers, installing cabinets, loads of white paint and a multitude of other things, Phase I is now complete.  The changes are unbelievable and I can't wait to have them back to begin Phase II.   These gentlemen are professional and talented.  They humor this crazy homeowner and honor and execute my far fetched ideas.  You will not be disappointed with their work.

AWooden Hammer
Ben did a wonderful job on our kitchen remodel which included removal of a wall, new island built with cabinets, new flooring and general kitchen remodel. Ben clearly has a passion for cabinetry and woodworking. We have received wonderful comments on his cabinets and woodworking from friends and other vendors we used (counter install company). Only opportunity we saw for improvement were a couple small things which included price and services performed when a 3rd party contractor was hired by Ben. Overall would give an A and look forward to working with Wooden Hammer in the future.

ACROWLEY CONSTRUCTION CO INC
Gary Crowley is rather expensive for a contractor in the area, but he is a man of his word. There was a small delay to the start of a project, but that is not unexpected. However, once they arrived to start the job, they did not leave until the job was done! They started this project in mid-December of 2006 and finished by early May. They had a crew there every day, and the logistics were exceptional. When the electrician was due, he was there, as all of the subcontractors were. Gary's crew is a group of professionals who were meticulous is their job(s), polite and incredibly fun to work with. I ended up making them lunch every Friday. Not only would I have Crowley do more work, I have and a report will follow on that.

ASnowscapes General Contracting
Zeb Snow's company, Snowscapes, has done extensive work on our home in Colchester, VT. He and his team did an amazing job completely remodeling our kitchen and bathroom. The house was truly transformed after Zeb and his team were done. Zeb provided an accurate quote and exact timeframe for the project which was so helpful! This was our first home renovation project so we appreciated Zeb's insight and professional expertise. When we put our home on the market a couple years later, it quickly sold for our desired price largely due to the high quality remodel which was commented upon by real estate agents and the home buyer. In addition to the remodeling jobs, Zeb also helped us with substantial structural fixes. He is our go-to contractor!
