Recent Review: Anthony and Dave did a good job with our bathroom remodel - from the studs up. They turned a small, choppy bathroom into a fully-functional wheelchair accessible bathroom. Anthony created a roll-in shower with a made-to-order ramp into the shower. Installed a barn door and handcap accessible sink.

Recent Review: I called John DiMartino on February 26th.  He came over on the 27th at 3 PM, precisely on time.  I gave him the details on the deck we wanted.  He gave me an initial quote.  We then modified the design to better meet my needs (I am a paraplegic in a wheelchair.)  With mostly his input we ended up with a better design and a lower price!  We asked him to start as soon as possible.  He said he could begin, weather permitting, by late April or early May. Around the end of March John called and said he could do it earlier.  He and his crew showed up on Monday, April 6th and were finished on Thursday the 9th.   His crew was really good, curious and professional.  I also asked him to build a ramp in the garage to give me unassisted access to the house.  This too was done before they left on Thursday. Would we use him again?  We've already arranged to have him come back to paint the garage floor, walls and ceiling, and the basement floor.  No doubt we will be asking him for more help in the future. Thanks again John Rick and Nadine

Recent Review: In 2010, a year after my husband was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease, he and I met with Scott McClurg to discuss how to modify our home to accommodate our changing needs.  My sister and brother-in-law had been extremely pleased with renovations McClurg had done at their residence 12 years prior and again in 2003, and many of the members of the community of ALS patients and their families, with whom we met monthly following my husband's diagnosis, recommended that we contact McClurg to create our handicap accessible space.  Once we realized that building an addition to our modest, two-story home was the most logical choice for us, we felt compelled to work with the company we believed was most qualified to do the job well.   Overwhelmed and unsure of our needs, our family was guided through the decision-making and construction process with ease.  My husband, who typically insisted on being in charge, felt so confident in the ability of every craftsman who worked on our project that he readily relinquished control.  The contractor was respectful of our requests concerning the time that work would commence each morning, diligent in keeping our house as clean as possible every day that workers were on the premises, and consistent in his efforts to keep us apprised of the progress being made.  The addition, completed on schedule, became the perfect sanctuary for my husband.  It included a closet and bathroom, was large enough to house the increasing amount of medical equipment he required without resembling a hospital room, and contained an elevated fireplace, suggested by McClurg's project consultant, which provided warmth and an ambiance that my husband enjoyed so much, at first from his recliner, then from his wheelchair, and finally from his hospital bed.  A sliding glass door to the ramp allowed any available sunlight to bathe the room, making everyone who entered smile.  As I explained in a letter I wrote to Scott McClurg after my husband lost his battle with ALS, our addition was the brightest spot during our darkest days, both literally and figuratively, and I will forever be grateful to everyone at McClurg for creating such a beautiful, comforting space. One day, after my husband's condition had deteriorated to the point that he needed a bipap machine to breathe, we lost power during an autumn storm.  In panic mode, I called 911, and after the emergency workers set up a generator on our deck, but were unable to restore electricity to the addition, I called McClurg to ask for the phone number of the electician who had worked on our project.  Within a half hour, the electrician arrived at our home, followed a few  minutes later by Scott McClurg.  They demonstrated, once again, how to reset the circuit breaker, and Scott then assured me that he was always just a phone call away. I found McClurg Remodeling and Construction Services to be outstanding in terms of expertise, attention to detail, and customer service.  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the company to anyone seeking quality work.

AAffordable Solutions by Brian
The work went very fast. I was expecting a border around the perimeter of the floor to disguise the board ends, and the workers said they weren't accustomed to doing that. They got Brian on the phone, and he left another job to get the needed trim materials. I felt like a pain in the neck, but he insisted that I should be happy with the job. I am very happy with the new decking and stairs.

The job grew a bit as it went, by our suggestions and the suggestions and expertise of the workers.  We were very satisfied with the job they did.  The price was fair and we were given the discount as per the note on Angie's List.

FCutting Edge Decks Inc
Approximately 8 to 9 months after the deck was completed little things began to show. IE: the gate was sagging, a deck board was flipping up, the boards of the skirt surrounding the deck were loose and falling off in places, the access door under the deck was falling off and the boards that made up the door were falling apart. It took many calls and a long time before Mr. Florian showed up to my home, and when he did he only shimmed up the gate and fixed one board of the skirt, which I might add fell apart again. I told him I wanted to be there when he came, but he showed up when I was working. (very sneaky) It was a constant game of phone tag with Mr. Florian. He never came back to fix all the problems. Through the years of trying to chase Mr. Florian down my deck began to sag. When contacting Mr. Florian again he became rude, condescending and would not even consider that the sagging of the deck could possibly be something he did wrong. He would not listen to anything constructive I had to say, and then I heard him say to someone......I'm going to hang up on her, and he did. (so unprofessional) I wrote Mr. Florian a letter and sent it certified mail. He did not respond to it at all. In the meantime, I contacted 2 contractors to come over and look at the deck. One contractor told me the supporting beam under the deck was not continuous from post to post and that this was "NOT COMMON PRACTICE". The other contractor told me there were "NOT ENOUGH FOOTERS". I took this issue to another level and contacted the City of Syracuse Code Enforcement. The inspector that originally came out only viewed 2 of the footers which were O.K. However, Mr. Florian was instructed by the inspector to call when he had the others done so he could come back out and look at those. Mr. Florian "NEVER CALLED CODE ENFORCEMENT". (what was he hiding) By the time the inspector came back out Mr. Florian covered the deck, the inspector could not view the remaining footers or any other supporting structures, the inspector took his word for it that he did it correctly and closed the permit. When the inspector revisited my home, at my request, he then took a look underneath this time and found that the supporting joint had been spliced together and was not a full board as required, and that the boards should be bolted to the 4X4 post due to the weight they have to hold. He also saw that the butting and mitering of the boards are unacceptable. In addition, the inspector also wrote me a letter for court explaining what he had found on his return visit. Without going into the legal end of this situation let's just say justice was not served. My guess is Mr. Florian knew to keep putting me off so the warranty lapsed and my best guess is the statue of limitations ran out on this type of complaint. I leave you all with this.....Mr. Florian is "NOT A MAN OF HIS WORD". He promises to keep his customers happy, as happy customers promotes more business. I AM NOT A HAPPY CUSTOMER OF CUTTING EDGE DECK AND/OR MR. FLORIAN. I AM A CUSTOMER THAT HAS BEEN TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF....DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU.

APRECISION BUILDING & REMODELING INC
I got three bids for each job (last year and this year). He was by far the most reasonable in price. However, it is the quality of his work that gives him my business. He is extremely neat, laying tarp wherever he works and then cleaning up and vacuuming before he leaves everyday. He is very polite, very much a gentleman. He had great suggestions and is open to ideas. His woodworking is beautiful and very finished in appearance. Dan is very precise and pays a lot of attention to detail. The projects proceeded on schedule. He was always around, even when another contractor was doing an installation for him. Dan is very honest. I had no hesitations in giving him a key to the house so he could come and go as necessary.
