Recent Review: I was very happy with the grout cleaning. Our formerly white grout had become filthy in highly trafficed areas, and former experience with a DIY approach convinced me it was time to call in someone with the appropriate equipment. The team did an excellent job, taking care to carefully go over regions that appeared stained. Unfortunately, the front office had not informed the team that we wanted our grout sealed, so they did not come equipped for the task. Although they were able to run back for the sealant, they did not have the special applicator they usually use. (I don't know if that would have made a difference.) It is now 1.5 years later, and I am a bit disappointed by the efficacy of the (expensive) sealant, as our grout is again black. Although I have read that well sealed grout should not have this problem, I don't have any direct experience with other types of sealant. I would be very interested in hearing the experience of others.

Recent Review: Tony, the owner, listened to what we wanted to accomplish and suggested some tile on which he was running a close out sale. After looking at it, we agreed that it would be great in our application. Tony then identified the type of mortar needed to install the tile (thinset mortar) and recommended a grout material that matched the tile very well. We later found out that the selection of grout not only was the right color, but was of high quality as it set up very quickly after installation and let us walk on it 4 hours later. Tony suggested using his favorite installer, Scott Calloway of Pro-Tile. We agreed and Tony arranged for Scott call to set up an appointment so he could provide an estimate. The proof of the pudding is in the tasting, and the taste was just great! The tile and grout looked wonderful in our home and the work Scott did was perfect (see my review of Pro-Tile). Tony's advice and counsel was spot on for the tile, grout and for using Scott to do the work. I would unhesitatingly use The Binghamton Floor Store again.

Recent Review: Our house is 4 months old. There was a problem with the original installation of the tile that lead the grout lines to be "bleached" and turn from brown to a gray. The builder's warranty dept. brought in grout works to stain the grout back to the correct color. They sent a two man team who were prompt and courteous. Everything was done was described and completed on time. The final grout color looks great.

Recent Review: 3 very efficient and personable women arrived at 8:30 with their own equipment. they each took an area of the house and went through a checklist. Only missed a few cobwebs on a 10' ceiling - I didn't expect her to. One lady returned the white tiled floor to almost new and another gal scoured a utility sink that was covered in dried on paint - looked great!

Recent Review: I ordered the tile and metal edge from The Floor Store in Binghamton, NY. Tony there suggested using his favored installer Scott Calloway at Pro-Tile. We agreed and Tony arranged for Scott to call to set up an appointment. We agreed on a time and Scott arrived on time, spoke with us about what to do. He offered suggestions and together we agreed on a scope of work. He provided an estimate a few days later and we hired him. We had to solve an issue with a door in the area where he would be working before we could agree on a start date. When we resolved the issue, we got back with Scott and as luck would have it, he was able to come to do the work 2 days later. It was a very bad day for snow, so he didn't finish the job the same day (I don't blame him for leaving at 5!), but promised to be back the next day to apply the grout, thus completing the job. The work was perfect! All was level and square. He undercut the trim around the doors so the tile ended under the trim and hid the cut edge. He commented that the grout that Tony at The Floor Store in Binghamton, NY had sold us was of very high quality (hydraulic) so it set up very quickly and we were able to walk on the tiles within 4 hours of Scott completing the grouting. I would unhesitatingly use Pro-Tile and Scott in the future. The work was just plain terrific.

Recent Review: I got a general estimate per square foot on the phone, which was much the same as phone estimates from other places. Setting up a time for an in-person estimate was painless, and he arrived on time. I had already purchased the tile at a home improvement store; we picked a grout color from a picture during the estimate. The day of the job, he dropped off two young men and left them to do the work, came back at the end of the job. Tile was laid perfectly, but there were rough edges that I wish I had been forewarned of: smears of grout or quickest on lower bits of the walls, and loose carpet from the hallway lapping into the tiled room through the doorway. I had to install quarter-round moulding around the edges of the floor, and cut the carpet and tack it down at the doorway. Looks fine now, but I wish the estimator had brought up the necessity for the finish work.

The tile and grout look like new. I am a very particular person. I probably can be classified as borderline OCD (obsessive compulsive, disorder)Cody was excellent. He was very patient while I selected the color seal. I would highly recommend him without any hesitation or reservation. Very professional experience!

job was supposed to be completed within the time frame and the time frame was missed. installing of the tile there is 2 different colored color grouts. tiles have crackes and chips on corners that were utilized in majorities walkways. grout sponged onto the existing stonework that is on the wall. installer over cut doors and wood trim. tar paper utilized for hardwood underlayment marked walls that the installer did not clean up. hardwood has gaps that a quarter can fit in in and staples are visible. transition piece from hardwood to carpet does not match the hardwood used. I could keep going I have all sorts of pictures any further questions please ask I would be happy to show.

The company was recommended by Tony at Binghamton Floor Store on Susquehanna St. They were prompt, on time and gave me an estimate that was a bit more than I expected at first, but I went ahead anyway. They completed the work as quickly as possible, working sometimes past 6 or 7 pm. The final result was fantastic. I couldn't be more pleased. After the grouting was completed they came back after a few days and installed my towelbar, toilet paper holder and grab bar. I highly recommend this company. They were professional, friendly and did a great job.

AOLD WORLD REFINISHERS
We met with Mike Mayer (owner) in November, 2013.  We agreed on the scope of work and price.  He indicated that mid-December would be the earliest he could start.  Before he started, he arranged for us to meet at his place of business to select the countertop material.  Once we had selected what we wanted, he arranged a second visit to show samples of stained maple that he thought would complement the colors in the countertops and to select door and drawer hardware.  He purchased the wood veneer and doors from a supplier. He got clear of other projects and, with our agreement (due to the proximity of Christmas and the fact of having the kitchen torn up), started work 12/23/13.  He carefully sealed the doorways to the kitchen with plastic sheeting.  It was noisy, but that was to be expected.  Due to the condition of the surface of some cabinet areas, he had to use a smelly chemical to smooth it out.  He kept the smell down as much as possible by opening the window (it was cold!) and keeping the exhaust fan on.  This took place over 2 days.  All very reasonable things to do.  At the end of each day he and his helper cleaned up the mess they made and took all of the debris with them to be disposed.  When he found a drip in the finish on two of the doors, he took them back to his shop and removed the drips (can't tell there was ever an issue now.)  There was a roughly 2 week delay caused by my tile supplier not being able to obtain the tile from his distributor when he said he would (it appears to me that the tile distributor had drawn their stock down for for end-of-year accounting purposes.)   Mike was very understanding of this and was quite professional.  He went on to his next job awaiting notification from me as to when the tile would come in.  After I called, he came the next day to start the work after he finished some work he was doing elsewhere.  As it turned out, my tile supplier and I miscommunicated about how much of one tile needed and he ordered less than I really needed.  This was not apparent until Mike had gotten most of the way thru installing the tile.  He put in what he could, and promised to return once I had gotten additional tile from my supplier.  Happily, my supplier was able to obtain the needed tile the next day and Mike was back in to install it that afternoon.  He and his assistant finished grouting the tile the next day.  General assessment.  Very professional performance by Mike.  He was able to accommodate himself to the issues created by the lateness of my tile - twice!  He did this without complaint or any issue.  Kudos!  The actual time it took to do the work appeared to be very reasonable based on my personal experience doing similar work.  I would unhesitatingly do business with Old World Refinishers again. Quality of work.  1) The carpentry was first rate.  I am personally experienced at woodworking and have a grasp of the difficulties involved.  I would not give this comment easily.  My wife was fully satisfied.  All issues we identified were quickly addressed and resolved.  The wood work is beautiful.  2) The tile work was OK, but not stellar.  I also have experience with tile and appreciate the work needed to perform a top quality job.  On reflection, if I had to do this over, I would have had the tile work done by someone who only does tile work altho it almost certainly would have cost significantly more to do so.  My wife and I are very picky, others may be less so and be perfectly satisfied with the work that was done.  We made a trade-off here.  Responsiveness.  Mike was very responsive.  Customer first, seemed to be his unspoken motto.  See my comments about the tile delay above.  We communicated often by text message.  Mike is clearly excellent here. Punctuality.  Mike came when he said he would or called ahead to notify me of any changes.  Well done.  I was very pleased with this behavior.  Couldn't have been better. Professionalism.  See my comment under General Assessment.  Great guy.

AHarry Schaffer Services LLC
Harry was recommended to me by a neighbor for whom he enclosed and insulated a garage into an office space. He is reasonable in his prices. The job he did painting three rooms in my house was meticulous. He has a sure hand and cleans everything up. It was a pleasure to have him do the painting, since the rooms came out perfectly. So did the screen replacements on my porch for that matter. He's careful with everything he touches. He's also assembled a gas grill and replaced the closer on a storm door, which I forgot to mention when I listed all the catagories he works on. He's a Methodist and a church goer. A family man. It's not like you can't go off and leave him in your house either, because you can. Hope this helps to let you know how good he is at various and assorted tasks. He's volunteered to stop in and change light bulbs or take a minute to do what's needed. So helpful.
