Recent Review: Well Worth the Wait! We contacted JP Chimney Services in November, to talk about getting a wood cookstove installed where a gas fireplace had been installed. The first appointment they had for an estimate was Christmas week. We met and arranged to do the work the last week of January. They were professional, polite, and did a great job.
Business Description: Kimlin Propane was founded in 1982 by my dad and mom, Douglas and Jean Kimlin, from their home on Duzine Road in New Paltz, NY. My dad grew up in the gas business from the time he was a teenager in Dutchess County. Back in the 40’s and 50’s, propane was delivered by swapping out 100# cylinders. He remembers loading cylinders on a cable car that took people to a restaurant on the top of Mt. Beacon (you can see the line of the old route up the side of the hill as you head south out of Beacon on Route 9D). He worked his way up and in the late 50’s was hired as a manager for a large company called Pyrofax for their branch in Windsor Locks, CT. Eventually, mom got homesick and dad got offered the job as manager of the Clintondale, NY branch of a company called Star Gas. So they packed me and my sister up and moved to New Paltz in 1966. He ran that branch for 16 years and made himself so much at home that he even raised chickens there until Brooklyn Union Gas bought out Star Gas in 1981 and, as a token of appreciation for his years of service with the Company, fired him.

Unresponsive, Unreliable and possibly Devious. I have a propane gas fireplace and mantel purchased and installed by Sigma-Tremblay a number of years ago. Total price just under $5,500.00. Recently the fireplace would randomly refuse to ignite. I called Sigma-Tremblay and made a appointment for their tech to come to the house for service. On Oct 30 the tech came to our house, did some light maintenance and informed us that the pilot assembly needed replacement. Tech said he would inform Sigma-Tremblay to order the part and get back to me IN A COUPLE OF DAYS with an estimate and to set up a install date. Charge for this visit was $153.00. After not hearing from them for 10 days I called them on Nov 9. at 11:30 AM . Was told that Amy would call me back in as soon as she returned from Lunch.. DID NOT RECEIVE A CALL BACK. Called them back again on Nov 12 at 11:45 AM. Was told that Amy would call back when when returned from lunch. DID NOT RECEIVE A CALL BACK Called at 3PM the same day. Was told that Amy would call me back as soon as she was off the phone. NO CALL BACK. Sent them E:mail on Nov 13 informing them that if I did not call me within 24 hours I would call the credit card company and dispute the $153.00 charge. NO CALL BACK from Sigma Temblay. Opened a dispute with the cc company on NOV 14. the cc company gave Sigma-tremblay 30 days to respond to the dispute. NO RESPONSE from Sigma-Tremblay to the cc company as of today. So now almost 2 months later I still have the same problem and must either do the repair myself of find someone else to come out and do another diagnosis of the problem. It amazes me that a company that I Paid $5,500 will not even have the decency to give a me a call. This makes me very suspicious of the initial install of the fireplace. Was it done incorrectly? Was it not up to code? In any case, they are not to be trusted and their lack of response shows a TOTAL disregard to the customer

I was livid! I ask "just what do you do, then?" "Oh we clean chimneys, furnaces, and inserts for people who buy from us! Our fireplace was placed in when we built the house 9 years ago now. "What you are saying, then," I asked the woman on the other end of line, is" you don't want to even look at our situation, even if it turned into a new sales for you?" Her clear answer was , "No!" And she hung up! I was never so annoyed at a merchant in my life! When we travel past the store, both my wife and I avoid looking at it. It may have burned down for all I know! Don't care!!!

When I got it home my husband and I had to cut the plastic away in order to unload it. We carried the smaller box into the house and put it in the master bedroom where it is going to be installed. The larger box was much heavier so we had to open it and carried all the pieces individually up to the bedroom. The items in that box were in perfect condition, but frankly the box looked completely undisturbedifferent and I find it hard to believe it had ever been opened. We didn't get around to installing it until about 2 months later. When my husband opened the smaller box containing the actual fireplace he discovered it was seriously damaged, and appears to have been crushed by something heavy being placed on it. (My husband is a structural engineer). When we contacted Ashleigh's they refused to do anything, insisting that they had inspected it, I had signed that it was in new condition and that it looked like it had fallen off a truck. I pointed out that I was never given the opportunity to inspect it myself and was forced to rely on their representation, that it did not look like it had fallen off a truck and that they loaded it onto my truck so that would be their responsibility if in fact that is what happened (which is NOT the case). They also pointed out we had picked it up 2 months ago. I argued that their reasons for not helping us would be the same if I'd called a week later so that was just nonsense. They absolutely either knew it was damaged when they loaded it or they never inspected and just lied about it because they are apparently supposed to inspect in order to have any recourse.
