Recent Review: Very responsive and professional personnel and job foreman. We had a very large job -- installing a roughly 1,000 square foot stone (paver) patio and significant landscaping around it. Work was excellent, great attention to our desires and to detail.

Recent Review: I have used Preferred for years with good results.  They are professional, honest and always available for emergencies.  Although this occurred close to Christmas, they returned daily to mud the hole in the wall, then sand, paint and reattach the shelf.

Recent Review: Do not waste your money hiring this individual. I was told that if I had any problems with the repair that was done to my roof that Richard Horton from Great Valley NY, Horton Builders, would come back and repair it at no cost, that he guarantees his work. BIG LIE, my calls are sent to voicemail and are not returned. If your looking for home repairs to be done, pay the extra money to hire a real professional, so you don't have to go through the headache that I went through. Recent Review: Owl Homes of Fredoina never finished our home - and when they attempted to complete or repair their errors they made it worse than before they arrived. The home is sold as a "turn-key" home - just move in. Well, we didn't even have lightbulbs and fixtures installed when we moved in! They left the entire basement full of mud, and products were damanged. All the appliances were scratched or dented, and although we were told we could "buy" them at scratch and dent and receive a check back, we never recevied this. We had to have their work team in our home to finishe the house for over a year after we moved in...doors didn't fit, a cupboard was broken, a wall-cap remained undone, plumbing was promised to be in the ceiling yet hung below. When we discussed the plumbing issue, which TWO of us heard it would not be exposed, we were told we were wrong and were never told that. In their attempt to make this right they moved the plumbing UP and now we have issues with drainage. When the workers came to our "one-year guaranteed" home to make repairs, they left dirty hand prints on the walls, and the floors a mess. The quality of their workmans hip is extremely shoddy and unprofessional. For the huge amount of money we paid for our home, the customer service, quality and guarantee do NOT live up to their promises. I would NEVER recommend anyone buying anything from Owl Homes of Fredonia.

Their estimate was good and one of the lower bids we received.  The work held up well in the time we were there.

ALand's Home Remedies LLC
We have used Land's Home Remedies before in our own home which is closer to their business address in Cattaraugus, NY. We are so impressed with owner Jim that we asked him to do this job some 40 miles farther away although other contractors are available there. Jim has always made suggestions that either saved us money or made the end result much more attractive or functional so; when we find a good professional to work with, we prefer to stick with him. He's worth the little bit more he costs (not the lowest estimate) and in the end probably costs less.

FHawk Construction LLC
Contractor did a haphazard job. The building inspector had resigned early in the project therefore there was no building inspector to oversee the project to ensure the contractor was building up to code. The contractor used 2 x 6's in the roof instead of 2 x 10's. The roof started to leak the very first winter due to ice buildup and the contractor refused to fix it. He tried blaming it on inadequate insulation, although we could not install the proper amount of insulation in the roof due to the contractor using 2x6's. He refused to come back and resolve the problems. We finally had to take him to small claims court. We learned that when he built the house, he did not use ice and water shield on the roof, he offset the 3-tab shingles less than 2" apart in some areas although the manufacturer recommends a minimum of 4 inches, he did not install an overhang in the back of the house to provide air flow to the roof, and he under-built the roof using 2x6's instead of 2x10's as per code. He kept blaming the problems on us - the homeowners, even though we knew nothing about building and had entirely entrusted him to build the house correctly. Two other contractors provided testimony (both in written form) as to the problems with the house. The contractors concurred that poor insulation was not the problem with the roof and that adding more insulation would just act as a "sponge", absorbing water from the leaks which would contribute to mold and mildew. The court mandated us to split the cost of a licensed architect with the contractor, for the architect to look at the roof and provide his opinion. The architect also provided the same opinion as the two contractors. In the end the court ruled in our favor and the contractor had to pay us a settlement so we could hire another contractor to remove the entire original roof down to the sheathing and properly install a new roof. After we started doing finishing work in the house we found that many of the partitions for the interior walls were "off square" and also that he should have provided with us with 2x6's for wet walls in the bathroom and kitchen areas, which he didn't.

AJeff Holt DBA Holt General Contracting
From the first day Jeff Holt was very professional and spent the time necessary to understand the existing windows and trim/mouldings.  He presented a fair proposal for the work and brought in a representative from the window company to explain their products.  He then measured each window and inspected the exterior and interior trim/mouldings.  Once the windows arrived his crew was on time daily to start work, performed their jobs in a professional manner ensuring the protection of the house's new hardwood floors.  They cleaned up each day and worked in such a manner to ensure the house was comfortable for my family.  All work was started and completed on time with Jeff Holt personally inspecting the work several times each week.  A high level of attention to detail was shown by all the crew members.  The painting, electrical and insulation jobs were conducted in the same manner - with Jeff Holt presenting a proposal and with his crew performing at a high level. The work spanned most of the winter months so we became very familiar with the crew and their work ethics.  They always had our comfort in mind since we continued to live in the house while the work was being done and ensured that the house was clean at the end of each work day.  Shane Holt managed the daily work crews and advised us on the work each day.  We never had to question how the work was being done or why.  Shane made sure we were kept up to date. Given the high level of work performed by Holt General Contracting I would not hesitate to recommend them.  They will be returning to renovate my kitchen and bathrooms in the near future.
