Recent Review: What an amazing experience from beginning to end!!! We knew Tim was the man for the job the first night we met him for the estimate. Even though our type A personalities bombarded him with a million questions, he welcomed the opportunity to listen to our likes and dislikes and to offer recommendations based on his past experiences. He was genuinely interested in our ideas and loved the fact we had pictures to help him visualize the project. As promised, Tim delivered the estimate timely and with a wealth of detail. It included a breakdown of the required items and a bunch of options to include/exclude so we could stay close to our allocated budget. Although we had a few questions, we were absolutely satisfied with the estimate and ready to sign the contract. Work was targeted to begin in early June but we were delayed until mid-July. Nonetheless, this was not an issue whatsoever because Tim was open and honest the entire time about the timeline. We admired the fact that he took the time to ensure his customers were satisfied and every I was dotted and t was crossed. Finally it was the day for the work to commence. We were excited yet nervous as we wanted it to be perfect in every way. Well let me tell you. After meeting the rest of the team - Anna, Seth, and Todd - and watching how they interact and work together, we were certain we made the right decision and knew they were going to build us a sick man cave. Their professionalism and attention to detail were first rate. They always ensured everything was completed to our standards each step of the way. A special thank you to Anna for helping us to select the perfect carpet for the theater area!!! Tim also had no problem when we asked if he would be willing to tackle a few extra things. He was always so flexible, honest, and accommodating. In the end, Tim and team built us the man cave of our dreams with a custom bar, half bath, and theater area. There are no words to describe the workmanship. They put their hearts and souls into their work and treated our home as if it was their own. We could not be happier. We can't wait to work with this team again on future home improvement projects. Tim, Anna, Seth, and Todd are the dream team!!!! We highly recommend them and rate them A+.

Recent Review: We consulted the Better Business Bureau for contractors who rated well and had no/few complaints.  We found several possiblities and made appointments .  Our initial problem was water seeping through the wall of the living room just above the top portion of the window trim.  This occurred only when there was snow and ice build up in the gutter in front of the house.   The contractors came to our house and found a much bigger problem.  The roof on the existing addition was collapsing and and the ceiling was bowing inside. We were not impressed with any of the contractor's so far until House Crafters came.  Salesperson, Bob arrived on time.  He was professional, knowledgeable, patient and very hard working.  He stayed late that day to complete the estimate and he even came back a second time to give us another estimate for more work we wanted done. This being our first major home improvement project, we really didnt know what to expect.  We were put at ease after seeing the AMAZING job the framing crew did, led by Paul and his team Chuck, Jerry, and Mike.  The crew arrived early the first day and everyday until the project was completed.  The original  shingles, plywood and rafters were removed and new rafters of  the correct  size were put in.  The pitch of the roof was raised which led to the removal of 2 back windows.  A new architectural roof was put on to the entire house and garage and a 2 ply flintlastic was installed on a low sloping roof in back.  The family room addition was gutted and reframed, insulated,  electric updated, drywalled, painted and trim work was done.  After that, new siding for the entire house was put on  along with shutters, 2 new steel doors and a storm door. The framing team worked well together.  They were professional, knowledgeable and organized.  They made suggestions and alerted us of concerns they had that we, as homewoners, would not have known.  This team proved to be true DIE HARDS who worked in the frigid, hot and humid temperatures.  They were always working and never seemed to take a break.  Thanks guys, YOU ARE AWESOME!!! Ed, the owner of House Crafters, would drop by time to time to see the progress of the project.  He too,  made suggestions and was very accommodating.  Due to the removal of one of my  windows, he had my entire bathroom repainted free of charge.  He also exchanged my shutters for another so that it matched the door. THANK YOU ALL AT HOUSE CRAFTERS FOR MAKING MY HOUSE A HOME!!!!

Ken agreed to do all the above for roughly $28,500, starting after Labor Day and he loosely estimated that he would be done well before the end of October, which would have been roughly two months time. Kdoes not work long hours. In fact, I don't believe I saw him before 10am or after 4pm on any day that he worked. This job, was supposed to be compliant with building codes in the town of Hamburg, and he assured me that he would have all of that taken care of because he's been doing this is whole life.  This was my mistake, I took the man at his word and his word is not worth the wind it rode on. I constantly was getting the run around from Ken about how his workers were lazy and the one quit and that is why he was lagging behind. I ordered a hot tub to be delivered the first week of November when I would be on vacation because Ken assured me that he would have the whole thing at least enclosed (I actually got him to sign that he'd have it roofed and sided by Nov 28, 2015. He told me he'd have the windows installed so he needed the money to buy the windows. So I stupidly paid him before he got them and then he never appeared back at my house.  The patio and foundation was $12,500 and installed by Battista Concrete - who did a great job. I paid Ken the money to give to Battista. Then in December the owner of Battista Concrete came to my door asking if we've seen Ken Walsh, which we hadn't. As it turns out, he never paid that money to Battista and it was only like $9,500 for the work, so he basically over charged me and walked away with all of the money. We also paid him $15,000 for labor and materials and since his work wasn't up to code, and he never actually did the application for permit, I was forced by the town of Hamburg to hire an architect (Jim Whittman - I recommend him highly) to come in and submit drawings (which cost an additional $1,500). Then I had to go and select a new contractor and I'm paying him as he goes (Frank Tye Construction - also highly recommended) but I've had to shell out an additional $35,000 to fix the mess that Ken Walsh left me with. To say that my experience with Ken Walsh has left a bad taste in my mouth would be the understatement of the year. The man has no integrity and will flat out lie to your face and walk away with your money. DO NOT HIRE KEN WALSH! DO NOT HIRE KRW HOME IMPROVEMENTS!

Tim and crew built us an amazing 'man cave' last summer. It truly was a dream come true. So you can just imagine our horror when the power went out and our basement flooded in May, less than a year after the job was finished. Although we had a back up sump pump, it just could not keep up with the torrential rain. Of course, one of the first people we called was Tim. Even with all the jobs he already had lined up into next year, he agreed to stop over and provide us with an estimate to repair the damage. Out of the kindness of his heart, he agreed to help us and indicated he would get started while we were out of town for a week and try to do a little bit every day in between jobs but to be patient as it would take time. When we returned from vacation, the majority of the work was done! The only piece remaining was to subcontract the carpet installation. He worked 16 hour days including Saturday and Sunday to get the job done so we would be surprised when we got home. Now who does that in this day and age. His work is so precise and he pays so much attention to detail, you would never even know there was an issue. Truly amazing work! It was then on to the last piece of the project - the carpet and transition strip installation. Unfortunately, we encountered a few bumps in the road with the subcontractor and his crew's sub-par work. When we expressed our dissatisfaction, Tim did not hesitate to work with the subcontractor to resolve the issues. He even went as far as to offer to remove all carpet expenses from the final bill. Tim even jumped in and finished the job better than any carpet installer I have ever dealt with. He is a master at all trades!!! In the end, everything worked out for all parties. Tim's willingness to go above and beyond to ensure all jobs are completed to perfection and his customers are 100 percent satisfied makes him the best in the industry. How he runs his business is a true testament to his character as he always puts his clients first. Businesses like Russell Renovations are hard to find! Tim and his crew put their heart and soul into every job and it definitely does not go unnoticed. We can never repay Tim enough for everything he has done for us and HIGHLY recommend him for any home improvement project. THANK YOU!

Putting aside the constant delays and complete inability to adhere to any semblance of a schedule due to his side-business (snow plowing) and just too many jobs going on at once - these guys are not worth the money you save. The countertop installation was done very very poorly. I may have to have them ripped out and pay someone to put in new countertops all over again. They didn't scribe the back wall before installing so I have a huge gap on one side (they claim will be covered by the backsplash). They measured wrong and one part of it is short and not flush with the cabinet on one end of it. The cracked the wood on my center island when removing the old counter tops. The kitchen sink is not seamlessly sanded/blended with the countertops - instead, you can feel bumps and gaps. They also left tape on the counter top when they put in the faucet and now there is torn blue tape under the faucet once they tightened it down. The bevel has imperfections in several places - they said they'd sand it out - then claimed they could not. The counter tops themselves have circular blemishes/marks that they tried to sand out, but couldn't. On this point alone, I should have thrown them out of the house and refused the counter tops - but once they have the old ones ripped out, what are you supposed to do? We'd have no kitchen sink or counter tops while I fight with this guy and/or wait for him to order new counter tops. Also, the cut-in where the slide-in oven goes is uneven on both sides. Here again, during installation they said they'd recut it and then said they could sand it down - then claimed they could not sand it anymore once it came time to do so. To top off this delightful experience, they forgot to install two screws that hold the dishwasher in place and did it in a hurry. While complaining about how hard it was to screw in the two screws (apparently they never heard of drilling starter holes) the guy decided it would be okay to just close my dishwasher door to see if it clears - it didn't. Instead, he scrapped the h*** out of the control panel on my brand new $600 dishwasher because they didn't screw one side in far enough. It is a shame that incompetent guys like this are even in business. But John is an old pro at establishing trust right away then once you sign, pulling every excuse in the book out of his a** as to why he is late, etc. etc. I will say this much - he stuck to the price and credited me $150 for a misquoted job to install a gas line. But as honest as his intentions might be, he is in way over his head and uses very inexperienced guys to do most of his work. He showed up on our job a whopping four times to supervise and assist a few occasions where it was necessary - otherwise he was out trying to sell more jobs, plow, or whatever else he needed to do that was more important than insuring he delivered a quality product/service. I cannot warn folks enough about this crew. I almost signed on to do a $40k room addition with this guy and my god, I am so glad I tried him out with counter tops first. I have plenty of pictures of the shoddy work for all to see if I can find a way to post them. STAY AWAY FROM THIS CONTRACTOR AT ALL COST!!!!!! DO NOT BE LURED BY THEIR VERY LOW PRICE!!
