In April of 2012 I hired Discount Flooring in Roswell, New Mexico, to lay new vinyl flooring in my home. Owner Carlos Valverde assured me he and his staff were experienced and would properly prepare the floor prior to installation. He guaranteed I would be thrilled with their work. I accepted his estimate and paid half the price in advance. His crew arrived and went to work. When I checked on their progress it was clear that the floor was never appropriately prepped and the installation was far from professional. There were large, uneven gaps left between the flooring and the cabinet bases, and the planking from the old floor caused a ripple effect to show through the Congoleum flooring that was applied on top without a proper base. When I pointed these issues out to Mr Valverde, he told me he would take care of it and "make it right". Instead, he kept finding excuses to not correct the installation, and in the end he refused to fix it. Their installation also damaged an existing hardwood flooring. Perhaps he was upset that I didn't buy the overpriced floating laminate flooring he was trying to push on me (he failed to warn me I would have had to hire another contractor to adjust the height of my doors had I taken his advice). His work seems to define every homeowner's nightmare about dealing with bad contractors.This is the worst service from a hired contractor I have ever had! I reported Carlos Valverde to the BBB of the South West. bbbsw.org, 12/2012. Complaint # 9555935. Through the BBB's process and with in their contact with Carlos Valverde, Carlos Valverde told the BBB directly that he will refund the monies of the down payment in full to me. As the weeks passed by, still no refund. In March of 2013, I called Carlos to ask him where my refund check was. He told me that he had not fogotten, how he was super busy, and as soon as he received his tax refund he'd have his accountant issue me the check in full, in the amount of, $990.94. He promised me this in our conversation. The first call I made to Carlos Valverde requesting my refund was in January 2013, again in March, 2013 and as of May 2013 I still have not received any refund as he did personally promise me in our phone conversations, and to the BBBSW that he would! I write this entry September 1, 2013. I never heard from Carlos Valverde again, nor have I received any refund as he so promised to me. He has failed to take any positive action and seems to only of become motivated to do something when he was contacted by the BBB office. Carlos Valverde is obviously not sincere in his offer to make this right!
