They started with excavating to upgrade plumbing for sink and to upgrade electrical line for new refrigerator. Upper and lower cabinets were installed plus island was anchored to concrete floor. Sink, garbage disposal, and dishwasher installed. Butcherblock countertops were installed on long counter and island. Replaced entry door and painted it.

At my request, Mr. Maldonado came to my home and provided an estimate for the work I defined. I got two other bids on the job. Mr. Maldonado provided the most information and suggestions from the three bids. He called me back the next day and reduced the bid amount, since he discovered he had another job in the area. He was willing to share the savings with me. His work crew arrived on schedule and did the excavation and forming work the first day. They poured and finished the job the next day. Their work was excellent. All of the stated parameters of the job were met. They thoroughly cleaned up the job site. I was most impressed by the professionalism of Mr. Maldonado and his work crew.

The project didn't go as smoothly as I was led to believe. I had tried to get Eden, the sales guy, to take the rain garden design document with him so they could review it in advance. I was told that John would look at the rain garden design the day of to figure out what needed to be done. Instead, he expected to be told what to do, and I didn't know offhand. So, we had to sit and figure things out after he made a call back to the office to yell at people. I was told that they would take good care of my existing plants; they did not. I had indicated that I wanted the dirt from the front yard to be used to grade the backyard. Instead, they brought clean fill, which was not indicated on the work proposal. The major goof-up they did was not installing a drain line at a proper grade. They had to dig it out and make it deeper. If I hadn't noticed that before they had everything buried, I would have had a huge mess on my hands. I also wasn't happy with the resodding they did.

ARICHARDSON'S EXCAVATING LLC
One day last spring I was horrified when I walked out into my backyard to discover water bubbling up where the septic tank is located.  Initially I called a different company, one that had previously pumped our septic tank on several occasions.   They pumped the tank & explained that the leach field was exhausted & we needed a new one put in.  Their estimate was very high (double what Richardson's charged) and they also insisted it would be necessary to cut down several mature trees to get their excavating equipment in place. Thankfully we decided to get another estimate.  Richardson's Excavating was a referral from a neighbor.   Although my initial call did not get returned immediately (they were in the field & out of cellular range), all subsequent follow-up was timely.  Rich walked the property with me, determining the least invasive way to get the job done.  Thankfully we had a nice open space where the field could go, but it required trenching through a narrow area between mature trees to get to the open area.    Also he was able to engineer the leach field to be two separate "legs" which helped preserve the existing trees. Rich explained what documents he would need from me to apply for the permit.  I emailed him all requested items, and within about 10 days we had our permit, and the work was scheduled.   Seeing the backhoe being unloaded from the flatbed, I was convinced that we'd lose some trees.  However, they expertly maneuvered the hulking machine like it was an extension of their hands, navigating between the trees & extending the backhoe arm through an even narrower channel to get close enough to the septic tank. The work was done over about a two-day period.  When the work was done, it was difficult to tell there had ever been any heavy equipment in our yard. Richardson's Excavating is a small company, family owned.  They might be small, but they have their own equipment and know how to operate it. If I ever need excavating work done again, I will definitely hire Richardson's Excavating without hesitation.

The owner came out the same day I called to give me an estimate to remove the septic tank and replace the damaged sewer line. The work was done over the next two days. The sewer line replacement was a very small section, but it was over 8 feet deep and required a large excavation area for safety. Overall, my experience with this company and the owner was excellent. The work was done quickly and the price was the most competitive out of several companies I called. I will definitely useTCJ in the future and recommend this company to others.

David came out quickly and gave a good estimate. He was easy to talk to and had a good plan for the work I needed done to bring the floor in a recently bought house up to code after rotting was discovered. He was also willing to do the additional work of stripping and staining french doors. He had an idea of how to stop / patch some rotting in the wood frame of a door that could not be replaced easily. Overall, the quality of the work looked great. We stopped by several times during the work and found the crew to be hard at work most of the time. The main problem we had was with the cleanliness and professionalism of the crew. During the work, we asked them to keep the bedroom sealed off since a lot of dust and dirt was being moved and we wanted to keep that room which had just been painted clean. We set up plastic to keep the room separate. The crew needed to get in to stain a door and didn't bother to reseal the plastic, which ended up creating a lot of work from us to clean the bedroom at the end of the work. When the job was complete, we noticed some problems. We had been doing some other painting and work on the house in the evening and we found some of our tools missing. The crew took a long extension cord, our tape measure, and several screwdrivers, used our paint brushes and paint pan, and used up all our painting tape for the job they were hired to do. This was extremely inconvenient because we were on a time crunch and needed the tools we had bought (and kept in other rooms) for the work we were doing at night - plus materials were supposed to be covered in the quote, so we ended up paying extra since they used our tools. In addition, when the painting tape ran out, the crew used our masking tape on the walls near the doors. When it was removed, it pulled the paint up and we ended up having to patch around the door and repaint. In addition, the crew often smoked cigarettes outside and left cigarette butts all over the front yard and street. When working in the bedroom, a room that had recently had its floor refinished, one of the workers was eating sunflower seeds and left shells everywhere. They didn't do a good job of removing the painter's tape from the doors they refinished and left bits of tape everywhere. The crew left sets of nails/screws and brackets throughout the house randomly and one of cars got a flat tire from a screw that was left right in front of the house. We paid the bill before the final cleaning since David was available and asked us to pay then, but they hadn't completed the patch of the rotted wood in the door frame yet. David stated they would come back and patch the wood, but that job was never completed. I ended up having to do that work myself despite the payment. While the work they did was great and I was very pleased that I was able to get a licensed contractor out so quickly to Santa Fe for the work, in the end I was displeased based on the lack of clean up, the use of our tools, and the fact that they never completed the job that I paid for. David did replace the measure tape and extension cord when we commented to him on the problem, but stated his crew had just gotten the items confused, despite the fact that we had put our tools in rooms that were not being worked on.

JeromeI had called Alliance back in May and that is when I met Jerome.  I was impressed with his knowledge and how he was prompt to our appointment for our first initial walkthrough.  Jerome was very attentive and provided great ideas as well.  I received an email with the cost and detailed explanation of what we had discussed and was pleased with the quick turnaround time with the bid.     After Jerome met me for the second time to make sure we were on the same page, he explained that he would have his staff on that Friday and would have the job completed by Monday (this was not including the crew working on Saturday or Sunday).  I was not sure if that was going to be done as he explained but I trusted Jerome and his word.  That Friday evening when I arrived home, I was impressed of how much the crew had done in one day.  As Jerome had conveyed, the job was completed on that following Monday.  Jerome and his staff had gone beyond my expectations and we are pleased with the work they did.  I never encountered a landscaping company that worked so efficient and quickly.   I also want to thank the staff at the Alliance Landscape office who were always friendly and very helpful when I called into their office.  When I had a question, they always returned my call in the same day.   I am truly grateful to Alliance Landscape.  We recommend Jerome to all of our family and friends.  Thank you Jerome!

It was one of those jobs that seem to start out small and then Murphy's Law kicks in. 1st we thought the pipe was plugged and they tried to flush it out with a hose, then a snake, but nothing came through to the septic tank. The hand dig was tough, as there were mountains of rocks and tree roots. New pipe and fittings went very quickly and professionally. Raking and cleanup was excellant.

George's crews worked efficiently and with great professionalism.  Over the almost three weeks of work, I became acquainted with many of them and learned most have been with the company for over ten years.  All schedules were maintained.  All of the excavation had to be done by hand, and it was very precise, exactly the dimensions specified.  Excess dirt was deposited exactly where we requested it.  George decided the retaining walls need extending several yards past where we had planned (he was right), and he didn't charge us for the extensions.   He used first rate materials for everything, no off-brands, etc.  The concrete color came exactly as we had specified. Thirty yards - two full trucks worth!  French drains were installed behind the retaining walls. The design and planning were, in my opinion, ingenious, exactly addressing the problems we had.  George works in an "ad-lib" mode, conceiving of what he wants and communicating it to his crews, no drawings.  He explained it clearly to us, made any changes I suggested, explained everything to me, got my approval and pressed on.  The end result was exactly as I expected. I definitely admire the efficiency and flexibility of his way of working. Two of his crew, Eugene and David, were at the house for the whole project time.  They had occasional other helpers.  The big concrete crew came in two waves, the form designer/builder crew one day and the pouring/finishing crew the next.  Everyone did exemplary work.  Eugene and David are really nice men.  George is a hoot.  Somewhat gruff, but with wit and patience underneath.  The clean up and final small fixes were satisfactory and complete. I gave George a "B" on price because he wasn't the cheapest.  And Advanced American Construction deserved every penny of it.

ACourtesy Plumbing Heating & A/C Inc
Since Courtesy has been doing all of the plumbing, heating, AC, and electrical work on our 11 rental houses (plus our own house) since June of 2007 it dawned on me that it was high time I reported our experience with them to Angie's List. We started asking them to do our work when we discovered the company we had been using was cheating us--charging us for supplies they hadn't actually used, etc.  Courtesy has done everything from small stuff like replacing faucets and unclogging sinks and toilets to installing new furnaces and AC's, running new electrical circuits, cleaning out sewer lines, excavating for and installing new water and sewer lines, and other impressive feats.  They're fast without being slipshod, their charges are fair, and if they make an occasional slip-up, they rectify it. They maintain a small and competent staff and run a tight ship.  Both Charles and Curtis, the owners, work the same hours as the rest of the crew and take their turns at being the emergency response person on the weekends.  The whole bunch, including Dana and Gloria, the dispatchers, are unfailingly pleasant, accommodating, and friendly.  It's hard not to believe that they all think we (and, I'm sure, their other clients) are part of their own families.  We have certainly come to feel that they are all part of our family (and our tenants love them, as well).

Recent Review: I knowingly paid Mr. Cacy more than the other bid due to his rating on Angie's List and was not disappointed.  I bought a lot that needed restoration work done, Frank communicated well with me, showed up on time and did a fine job.  As a part time resident, it is frequently a challenge to get contractors to execute as planned, but Frank did exactly what was requested, did an additional task, on time and without incident.  Would recommend Cacy's Bobcat / Excavation to others that need this type of work done.
