Recent Review: Crew arrived in timely fashion. I had to suggest that the installation crew clean out the gutters first before they installed the guard over the gutters (even though the salesman said they would do this), and I had to bring the hose up to the roof to enable them to wash out the gutters, or else the crew would not have done so. Otherwise, the work proceeded smoothly and appeared fine when the job was complete. One of the installers also troubleshot an gutter overflow issue I was having and re-directed some water to try to alleviate the problem. After some rain I noticed that water was just rolling off the edge of the house and not being properly channelled by the gutters. I gave this some time, as I was told that oil that adheres to the gutter guards in the manufacturing process sometimes takes time to dissipate, causing the gutter guards to work ineffectively at first. However, after about 4 months I was having the same problem. I climbed up on the roof and also noticed that the gutter guards were improperly pitched in the center of the run, so that acorns and twigs and leaves the like were just sitting on the gutter guards in that section. Other sections of the gutter guards directly under trees--which you would think might have problems--did not have similar problems. I reached out to Master Shield to tell them about the problem and ask them to send someone out to re-pitch the gutter guards. After multiple calls and emails in which I sent photos of the problem, I received no response, although the individual who answered the phone was friendly and tried to be helpful. About a month after posting a less-than-favorable review on Angie's List, I received a call from the owner Joe, who was interested in solving the problem. He visited my home personally when he said he would, and adjusted the gutter guards, which solved the problem of the debris preventing the guards from functioning properly. As he promised, a crew showed up a week or two later to install an additional downspout that I had requested, without charge. This time around, I was positively impressed by the attention and professionalism that I received, particularly the owner's not mentioning the Angie's List review until he was sure I was satisfied with the resolution of the problem. While I do not know if I will keep the gutter guards--which I don't think can handle the amount of water they are asked to in my particular situation--I was pleased with the contractor in the end. I do wish that I received the same attention from the start, however, which would have made for a much more pleasant experience.
