Recent Review: I had 2 estimates and they were less expensive. They did excellent work and I was happy with them. They were very professional. They got the work done on time and at the price they said they would.

Recent Review: We had an initial meeting with Dien Davis and appreciated his professional approach to his work - as well as his honest opinion about what a backyard of our size would accommodate. He was initially very patient and helpful when it came to answering questions since this was our first pool install. Once we signed a contract, much of our communication was done via an assistant and unfortunately, it was like a game of telephone at times. The assistant didn't have the same knowledge base as Dien, and several times provided information to us that Dien then had to correct. Eventually I found that the best way to get things taken care of in a clear manner was to communicate with Dien directly. That was probably the most frustrating part about our job. The project began smoothly and on time - but it did go off the timeline by over a month due to other contractors not being lined up or being available in a timely manner. We were told the full install would be handled within 30 days since we were installing in the dead of winter. The full install - including concrete pour, rock installation, fence install etc. took more like 3 months. I don't know how much of that responsibility falls to Gulf Stream Pools but since it appears that happens often, those delays should really be built into the timeline provided to customers at the beginning of the pool install - I'd rather have a realistic timeline than one that's never going to happen. Towards the end of the project we had to really stay on top of the project to get it wrapped up in a timely manner. Again, some of this was more related to contractors working with Dien - and I've found that contractors on the Outer Banks in general tend to be on "island time!" With our pool install, we also signed on for a summer's worth of service to the pool. The pool did stay clean and our renters were happy. My only comment on cleanliness is that the inside walls of the pool needed to be brushed off sometimes to avoid a buildup of dirt and that didn't seem to happen often enough. The primary concern I had with the service was that the service people insisted on running the pool pump literally 24 hours a day/7 days a week. After talking to several other pool companies/rental home owners, we were assured that a schedule like that would kill our pump in no time at all and was not necessarily except in the worst of weather - extremely hot or extremely rainy. It also ran our electric bill up as you can imagine. I asked that the pool pump not run more than 12 hours a day and twice reset the pins in our timer box to run the pump around 12 hours a day. Both times when we arrived back at the house, the Gulf Stream cleaners removed the pins again and set the timer to run continuously. This was done without so much as a phone call to us to discuss it. For this reason and for several other communication issues we ran into, etc. we decided not to renew our service agreement with Gulf Stream Pools for summer 2017. We're actually paying a bit more to work with a company that has a much more personal service experience - and who does not believe in adjusting the pool settings without having a conversation with the owner first.

Needless to say, working with Mike has been fantastic.  He is professional and  talented in all of the areas included in this report.  The best part of working with Mike is that he teams with you on the projects. You get daily photo reports from him on the progress of the work. You are the owner and he respects that first and foremost.  And he is the expert in contracting and contracting on the Outer Banks and actually anywhere he goes(he has completed work for my daughter on Long Island, New York) and with this expertise, he can offer the home owner ideas for a high quality project outcome at very reasonable prices.  He is very carefull about spending the owners money.  This all adds up to our ability to upgrade and maintain the value of our home while keeping it attractive for our use and our guest's.
