Recent Review: Jeff, Don and Gary reviewed the damage and evalutated what was needed to be done to meet their quality standards. I note their and quot;quality standardsand quot; because it was obvious that they don't believe in just and quot;patchingand quot; a problem....they believe in and quot;fixingand quot; the problem. Fixing the problem is permanent, patching the problem is temporary. I appreciated that they explained their job in detail, giving me confidence in their knowledge. Their team was very courteous, polite and kept their work areas neat and tidy. Jeff or Don called me or came by each day with an update. Their team showed up on time and worked until dawn. I will recommend them to anyone I know that needs any type of home improvement or remodeling done. Thank you guys!

Reviews for Walnut Cove Storm Shelter Installation

FLegacy Building & Design Inc
After discussing installing a storm shelter, my wife noticed in a Kernersville, NC magazine that Structures by Design (owner, Tony Hubbard) advertised storm shelters.  She contacted Tony and he came out to our home in April of 2012 to discuss purchasing a storm shelter.  In talking with Tony, he said he would have to go to Oklahoma to get one, rent a flatbed truck to haul it back, pay for the gas and anything else involved in hauling it back and then install it.  He said he would have to also check the thickness of the concrete on our carport on which the shelter would be installed to see if it the concrete would support the weight of the shelter. After much discussion with Tony about price, the ability of the shelter to withstand an F5 tornado and other strong storms, and the certification of the shelter, we signed a contract for $9603.22 on April 26, 2012 and gave him some "upfront" monies in the amount of $1603.22 per Tony's request.  Our agreeing to the contract price was based upon all the work that Tony indicated he would have to do and the cost involved to him and also on the fact that he stated he was a Christian and even named the church he attended. In our minds we believed him to be trustworthy.A few days after signing the contract, Tony came out and checked the thickness of the concrete by kicking the dirt away from edge of the concrete.  After that, some time had passed, and we had heard nothing from Tony.  My wife called him and learned that he would not be going to Oklahoma but that our shelter would be coming from a company called FamilySafe Southeast from Fernandina Beach, Florida.  FamilySafe would be delivering it and installing it.  On May 19,  2012 the shelter was delivered and installed by FamilySafe and Tony was only a bystander during the whole process.  Upon completion of installation, FamilySafe instructed Tony to come back 24 hours later, which he did, to tighten the floor bolts.  Upon completion of the installation, FamilySafe gave us an invoice of $5695 as the price of the shelter.  On the day of installation, we paid Tony the remaining $8000.00, not thinking about the difference between the price he charged us compared to the $5695 price on the invoice. We just thought that, perhaps, the invoice price might be a mistake.  However, we learned it was not a mistake when we received a review form from Angie's List regarding FamilySafe Southeast.  The survey asked a question about price, and the difference in the invoice price and the total price we paid Tony were so far apart until it set us to thinking again about the difference.  At that point, we called FamilySafe to verify the correctness of the invoice price and was told that $5695 plus $600 for hauling it was correct. So that made the total as $6295.  Tony did send one of his painters to come out and paint the shelter to match our home.  However, it took less than a day to paint it.  My wife has tried to contact Tony via letters to discuss the huge difference in cost of product versus what he charged us, and to date 5/06/13, almost a year later, and we have received no response.  We have waited almost a year to write this review and feel Tony has been given adequate time to respond to our letters.   NEEDLESS TO SAY, WE WOULD NOT CONTRACT WITH STURCTURES BY DESIGN (OWNER, TONY HUBBARD) TO DO ANYTHING ELSE FOR US!!!! -

I called and was told I would be called back after a scheduling meeting they were getting ready to have. I got a return call day or two later and made an appointment for the estimator to come survey the damage. He came at the appointed time. He said he was going to try and get them to rush the job due to how the damage was. A RUSH DID NOT HAPPEN. Everyone that I spoke with was very courteous and professional. However, actually getting them to come and do the repairs was a bit challenging. It was about a month from when I first called to when they finally did the work. I had to call several times and kept getting told that another job was taking longer than expected. I finally got an appointment for Monday of the following week, but they never showed up and when I called I got an apology that no one called to let me know they were not going to be able to come that day. Finally, after being told on a Wednesday that the problems with the other job had been worked out and they were to come the next day or Friday, they did not come or call to let me know that they were not coming. When I called on Friday to see where they were, I was given an appointment for the following Monday. More importantly, I was asked if I still wanted them to come, which sounded to me like they did not really want to do the job in the first place. And I it crossed my mind that maybe they kept putting me off to get me to cancel. But this day and time, it's very difficult to get someone to do a repair job; other companies I called all wanted to either put on a new roof or put new vinyl on the whole house or they do not do repair jobs at all. I do believe this is a very busy company and they worked with me as well as they could, but it most certainly could have been better. After they did not show up on Friday, the next day, I got a surprise call (I did not realize they worked on weekends) from one of the job supervisors saying they could come that morning, if I was available. Fortunately I was available, and the repairmen came within an hour. Another reason I had been given as to why they could not come previously was because the equipment they needed to do my job was being used at another job site. However, when the men got there, they had no equipment and bent the aluminum by hand using a piece of the blown off fascia as a template. They were courteous, knowledgeable and did a good job putting it up, but they did not replace the entire fascia on both sides of the gable. Only half of each piece of aluminum blew off on each side of the peak...and that's all they put back. Naturally, the old and new did not match exactly. The job appraiser quoted a price of $650 when he came to look at the damage and I was under the impression that it would be for the entire fascia replacement. They also emailed a long contract with numerous pages with all these legal requirements; some of which were pretty ridiculous, but I can see how they may need that for certain remodeling jobs. Then, after using my paper and ink to print it out and have it signed for them, they did not ask for it or take it when I mentioned it. The contract even stipulated that a check should only be given to one of four people and one of those people called me on the phone and told me to give the check to one of the repairmen. They did not follow their own contract! I also feel that the price I paid was two to three times too much for no more work than I had done, but I did not quibble about the price with the foreman on the phone because I was so over the whole situation. I wanted to get my repair done before my house had any problems from being exposed to the elements. If I ever need another repair of this type, I may call this company again since it will probably be difficult to get anyone else to do it, but I would prefer to get another company, if I can find one.

David did an excellent job! He arrived at my home as promised and ready to get to work. He did an excellent job removing the old custom molding so that it could be re-used. He then very quickly installed the new doors, and in a most professional manner, in a way that was much better than the original installation. He cleaned up, was very professional throughout. I very highly recommend him for any carpentry work you need done, and I promise that you will not be disappointed! I am very pleased with David, his professionalism and the quality of his work, and will definitely be calling on him again soon!

Tom and his assistant were terrific! My rental home had experienced an unfortunate break-in. The jerks destroyed the back door trying to get in. My renter was an emotional mess, and because the door was not functioning properly, was afraid to leave the house unattended. This was an emergency for me! Tom was absolutely wonderful to ask his other clients if they would allow him to put me in front of the line since it was an emergency. His other clients were so understanding, allowing him to take care of the door quickly for me.  His price was only a tiny bit higher than I would have liked to have paid, but it was well within acceptable and his professional demeanor, caring response, and absolutely top notch work made it a bargain for me at that moment. My renter is happy, the work was excellent, and his timeliness was impeccable. A big thank you to him and his assistant!
