Recent Review: Deck was torn out and rebuilt between Christmas and New Years.  The guys showed up on time, worked hard, and left the area clean each day.  Rain was an issue during the week and they erected tents and continued working despite the conditions.  The deck was finished within the week and the quality and workmanship is amazing.  Due to the extensive amount of rain and snow we got during that time, the patio was not installed until February when ground conditions permitted.  The area for the patio was dug out, and the ground prepared.  The stone was laid beautifully with a secure edging.  The guys again, did a great job and left the area neat and tidy for me.  After the deck was completed, I decided to have a few extras - I asked them to build a lattice surround for my A/C unit and to also put a skirt around the patio.  These items were taken care of quickly and also look wonderful making my yard as beautiful as I could have imagined.

Recent Review: I met Rick Knowles, the owner, across a fence between my yard and my neighbor. Rick was there doing landscape "cleanup" for my neighbor. This was October, 2013. I expressed interest in his lawn service, he got my email, etc, said he'd send me his standard contract that evening. He did as promised and then followed up with a phone call to answer any of my questions. He's been taking care of our yard since. I'm totally happy with that work. Now comes an even better review. We had been discussing adding an addition to our patio since last December. At that point we had no idea that Rick did paver's, etc. So, I got an Angieslist, made phone calls, sent emails, etc, etc for about two weeks. Of the six companies I tried contacting 2 called back, one showed up and gave me an estimate that was ridiculous. As  luck would have it, Rick was working with his crew in our yard one day and I mentioned my irritation of people not calling back for estimates, etc. Once I found out he did this kind of jobs I was excited because of knowing how he performed his work for me. He came by the next day, we sat and described what we wanted, measured out the area, talked a bit more about the process, materials, and time frame. He was busy enough that we were two months out from getting it done. We talked several times leading up to the job starting. The date finally arrived, he and crew were on time, and had the necessary equipment to get'er done. I'll not bore you with the details but will say that every single he promised he did, plus other things that were a real nice surprise to us. To say that we're very pleased with the workmanship, professionalism, personal touches, his crew, quality of the materials used is simply an understatement. It is SO refreshing to find a small business that does care about his job, what he produces, and the customer he does it for. I've recommended Advance Landscaping to many people already and will continue to do so. Give him an opportunity, you won't be disappointed!

Recent Review: We had a 15 year old raised stamped concrete patio that had settled and cracked.  Lou Sullivan came in and quoted to have the old patio removed, install rebar to add support to the new patio and to pour and stamp the new patio.  The project did not start as planned due to the weather, but Lou provided regular updates to me which I really appreciated.  He had quoted 5 days to complete the job but actually finished a day early.  Although Lou has a very good team working with him, he took the time to visit the work site everyday.  When issues came up, Lou communicated well with me and made good suggestions to address these issues.  Overall, the quality of the work was very good and I am pleased with the results.

Lou and his crew did an amazing job! Less than 2 weeks after I contacted him, I have a beautiful new patio. (It would have been less but there was a rain delay.) After dealing with 2 other contractors that gave me the run around, it was very refreshing to deal with a true professional that cares about his customers. Lou will listen to what you want and deliver the desired results. I could not be more pleased. My only regret is that I did not contact Lou first.

BDeck Specialist & Outdoor Living
I first contacted Deck Specialists based on the information I found on Angie's list especially the details about his not subcontracting our any of his work except for special items such as electric, etc.  (I found this appealing as I have worked with subcontracting before and it was not something I wanted to experience again).  So in late April I contacted them and set up a time with the owner, Marlon, to meet at our home.  On our first appointment, he didn't show and on contacting him he stated he had forgotten and so we set up a new time to meet.  He arrived as scheduled for this meeting at our home and we went over all the details of what we wanted to do with the old deck and what we were wanting with the new deck, new stairs and new patio.  He listened and was very professional and attentive to the details of what we were asking for and offered feedback when questioned about what he thought about certain aspects we were unsure about.  Upon his departure both my sister and I had a good feeling about the interaction and hoped that the price for what we wanted wouldn't be out of our price range.  Marlon contacted us with a day of that meeting with a quote for the project and it was a bit pricier than what we had budgeted and a few things discussed were left off of his initial quote but after discussion of what we had added on to the project in our discussion with him decided to proceed with a start date for the project of May 16, 2013. Marlon arrived on May 16 (Thurs) to go over the project again with us and to sign the contract/description of work to be performed which he stated would take approximately two weeks.  I am going to give an overview of how the project went from May 16 to June 7 when project was completed.  First I want to say that the work performed was superb; exactly what I agreed to and asked for and that I have absolutely no complaints about that aspect of the project.  I even added at the time of our meeting on May 16 if a  roof on a small shed could be done and Marlon indicated this wouldn't be problem and I was so pleased to have this issue resolved too! My problem with this project is the lack of communication, the promise of workers supposed to be at the work site but not and my having to contact the owner to find out where the workers were when they were scheduled to be at our job.  I didn't feel like I should have to check on if a worker was going to be at our house or not and felt this was poor management on Marlon's part.  I can understand rain delay (even though I was told in the beginning that to finish up a project they would work weekends....never saw anyone on a weekend EVER in making up time from any of the rain delay during the week) and even when sunny during the week didn't see any progress on the project so I brought this to Marlon's attention and he assured me that there would be someone there the next day to work on the project.  I returned home from work to find two unknown men (not part of the 3 original workers) in my backyard working the project.  When I asked who they were (as my first thought was that he had subcontracted out due to the delay in our project and which I specifically chose his company b/c he did not do this) they said they were his "second team" and introduced themselves and were very polite and nice (as were all his workers).   We dealt with the delays the best we could and didn't pressure too much about when things would get done until after a particularly uneventful project time when I was promised workers would be there on a specific Saturday to make up time, I received a call from Tom on a Sunday late afternoon requesting if he could come to pick up tools in their trailer so they could begin another project on Monday.  I absolutely lost it at that point and explained that I felt it was rude to request this in that we have been left hanging on our project with hardly any explanation as to why we were always delayed, workers not showing up the day before as they are supposed to, etc.  Tom was surprised that no one showed the day before and was extremely courteous and nice listening to every concern I had at this point and understood where I was coming from and said he would discuss this with Marlon.  He did pick up his tools for the project that evening and the next day I had the "original" crew back on my project and I got the explanation of delay in the special railings.  (note that other parts of the project weren't completed either).  At this point they worked diligently at completing the project as Marlon contacted me to state the special railings were in and would be done the next day.  My sister and I completed the punch list that evening so this would not delay the project further and I went over this with Tom (whom I discussed almost all aspects of the project at this point hardly speaking with Marlon the owner at all at this point) as everything now was moving along quickly and the project was done in a couple of days.  Even had a problem with the fan we bought (which was a product malfunction) but Marlon worked this out to send an electrician out after our project and this was GREATLY appreciated! This was a difficult review to write and I didn't touch base on everything but the bottom line is this:  workers are nice and professional, cleaned up after job every day worked (but did leave trash on site until last day of project, i.e. may be nice not to leave trash on site for more than a week as it attracts bugs), the work done (especially the punch list) was excellent and very specific to what we wanted and requested and followed up with any details we asked about.  All in all did everything we wanted plus and we couldn't be happier with the finished product!  The only downside was lack of communication (not told about reason for delays), workers not on site as expected, different team of workers not explained prior to arrival. Reason for not an A grading....is I felt I had to evaluate the entire project as a whole not just one specific thing.  So due to my explanation above I felt I could only fairly given a B.  Except for those things which could be improved upon this company would have received an A grading.  Thanks again Tom and Marlon and all the workers that made our dream finally a reality.

We are extremely happy! I contacted Lou after finding him here on Angie's List and reading his good reviews, and we couldn't be happier with the whole experience. Lou came out to do the estimate and he was friendly, professional, and a complete delight to interact with. The price he quoted us was extremely fair and once we decided to move ahead, he came out a few days later to get started and he had the job done in a week. Our new patio is beautiful, and we already love it so much more than the old, broken down wooden deck that came with the house. He was also able to recommend some folks to get estimates for the steps and the fellows we went with were also excellent people. Overall, Lou is honest, fair, personable and friendly and I would recommend him without hesitation to anyone needing concrete work. He obviously loves what he does, and it shows in the quality of his work. You can see how lovely the pattern is for our patio in the attached pic!
