Shaun Dennison, owner of Quality Coatings Drywall and Home Maintenance in Ocean Springs, MS, advertises he is licensed by the state of Mississippi as a contractor. I reached out through a co-worker to him and inquired about home renovations. He took note of what I wanted done and came back with a quote of $30,210.00. He asked that I pay 50% down and then the other 50% once the project was completed. He seemed as if he was mature, understood what I needed, spoke highly of the team he would have on site and that they could do it promptly. I decided to hire him as the contractor to supervise, oversee and carry out my project. I wrote him a check for $15,000.00 and then he began my projects. This project should have been 3 to 4 weeks per Shaun (and others that quoted me) - as it's not major construction and more so typical renovations. As we began to enter the 7th week with less than 30% completed (and no materials on site such as granite counters or flooring) - I began to worry about Shaun. He struggled multiple weeks due to poor planning, showing up at 10:30A or after and not being on site to supervise the staff he hired. As I began to worry - I checked his credentials and was shocked to find that Shaun Dennison of Quality Coatings Drywall and Home Maintenance in Ocean Springs, MS is NOT licensed by the State of Mississippi Board of Contractors. Furthermore, roughly 24 months ago was fined by the state of Mississippi for not holding a residential license and violated Mississippi Code Ann. 73-59-13(1)(a). This confirmed by the Mississippi State Board of Contractors on May 17, 2018. Documented Issues / Concerns: 1.) Contractor (Shaun Dennison) is not licensed by the state of Mississippi as of the date of our contract and was also confirmed to not be licensed on the date of this discovery on May 17, 2018. 2.) Project order is counterproductive and highly unprofessional. The Contractor (Shaun Dennison) hired staff to paint entire home, as well as an electrician to install newly purchased light fixtures and recess lighting. Then he later proceeds to rip out flooring and tile, completely ruining freshly painted walls by scraping and scratching them. Furthermore, completely covered the entire home in dust and debris without properly protecting or shielding items in the home. 3.) Contractor (Shaun Dennison) starts his day at 10:30A (or later) and departs at 3P - 4P. Leaving multiple times each day and actual work time is 4 hours or less per day in home. 4.) Crown Molding has unfinished caulking - projects seems to be left open / pending. 5.) No specific crew - seems to be amateur at times and no proper tools on site. One crew member was confirmed to be arrested for burglary in 2013 in Gulfport, MS on Case ID 24816. 6.) Contractor (Shaun Dennison) not present to supervise at times and leaving crew unattended to do unnecessary or low quality work. (Example: Trimmed children's bedroom in wrong color. Trimmed accent wall in master bedroom with a color that's not accent.) 7.) Crew left water hose running in the backyard on a Friday (May 4, 2018) unattended all weekend. 8.) Demolition occurring with no protective shield covering household items. Entire living room furniture covered in rocks, debris, and broken tile. 9.) No major materials have been acquired and brought on to property. * Seven weeks into project and less than 30% completed, no materials are on property (flooring / granite) and numerous quality issues observed, both safety and quality of work performed. 10.) Contractor (Shaun Dennison) has given the home owner's personal passcode to gain access to home, via garage, to numerous parties not approved by home owner. Some of which were never vetted or introduced to home owner prior to be given code. I have turned this matter over to my attorney and reported this fraud to the Mississippi State Board of Contractors.
