We had Chapman install a brand new Trane heat pump and blower system to replace our 30-year-old unit. The old unit still functioned, but was living on borrowed time and tax incentives favored replacing. After an initial very positive interaction with the sales end of Chapman, and some comparison shopping, we agreed to have them replace the unit. Overall, the work was completed, and the initial install went fairly smoothly and in a timely fashion. However, during the install, some ductwork was altered and new vents installed in a way that actually decreased airflow to some rooms. Once the unit was in, it was fairly difficult to get Chapman back to fix their own issues. The sales rep would come by, be very professional and courteous, get everything seemingly set up, and then....nothing. It took nearly a year for everything to be resolved to our satisfaction. This is not to say we didn't have functional heating and cooling. But overall this was a process that was more trouble than it needed to be. In addition, we had some additional concerns in the airflow system of the house (not anything related to Chapman's work) that we would like to have addressed. They were not interested in helping out with this. That's certainly their prerogative, and they were straightforward in this regard. But I was hoping for a more complete experience. Once our brand new energy efficient system was finally up and running, we saw a substantial INCREASE in our power bills and power consumption. This is over the course of 2 years, so not a small sample size. I had not expected this, and the sales rep certainly stated that we would see much better efficiency than a 30 year old unit. So how did the energy bills go up 20-30%? Chapman did spend some effort reconfiguring the thermostat and such...and some improvement was obtained. But for our substantial expense in getting a new unit, we are saving little money, despite what we were told during the sales aspect. Overall, Chapman strikes me as a completely competent operation, and I have no major complaints. But if you are looking for a company that will patiently work with you and design the best possible solution based on the quirks of your particular situation, this may not be the company for you. But to be clear, the work was done, what they did is functioning, and we were always treated well by everyone involved. While I don't see this as a company that goes above and beyond, this is a solid company that does a high volume business, and I have no serious complaints. But we may be looking around elsewhere if we have any further needs in heating and cooling.
