Recent Review: Mr. Paul Spears, owner of Stand Structural came to our home in November 2012 per our request. We purposely did not disclose the name of the Foundation Repair Co to Mr. Spears in order to keep an unbiased opinion. Mr. Spears seemed to be very knowledgeable and investigated areas of our home that the other Company has never inspected. Mr. Spears performed his inspection and later sent us a written report of his findings.

Recent Review: Mr. Sieg did an excellent job. He listened to my information and concerns and then performed an excellent, thorough evaluation. He took time to completely evaluate our home's foundation and was more than willing to answer any questions while he worked. He was not just interested in "getting in and out quickly". He took his time and did an outstanding job that gave me the information I needed in ordered to begin the bidding process for the needed repairs. Dennis Seig carries my highest recommendation.

Recent Review: We needed a thorough and knowledgeable assessment of what needed to be done to the foundation of a home -- and we were starting out very alarmed, after hearing costly and elaborate suggestions from other quarters. Fortunately, we called this firm and reached structural engineer Bill Carter, a seasoned professional who immediately inspired confidence. He scheduled a visit to the home very promptly, and gave us a summary by phone of how he saw the situation, followed by a detailed report. His expertise allowed us to move expeditiously on the home improvement, with confidence that we were fixing the problem AND not spending more than necessary. This was an exceptional experience, and I would highly recommend this organization.

Recent Review: We contacted Norton and Schmidt, based on their years in business, for a structural engineer inspection on a home my brother is purchasing. Although our initial whole-home inspection (with another company) found concerns at two places in the foundation, Norton and Schmidt inspected full scope for structural integrity. Mr. Schwabauer performed the work. He arrived on time, was professional, friendly, detailed, and explained his preliminary findings on site (fortunate for us, it was great news). His secretary, Ms. Woebke, had the report submitted to us via email within just a couple working days. The report is thorough, provided peace of mind, and has even been a critical resource for my brother's HUD financing approval. I want to add that each time I've contacted Norton and Schmidt's office, Ms. Flynn has taken my call and she is helpful (patient!) and courteous. Finally, in talking with others including the realtor, I've learned this Company's pricing is very good.

Recent Review: The engineer was professional and polite, however, the company that own's the engineering firm owns Dry Basement Foundation Repair.  The possible conflict of interest is addressed with a form you sign, but I would still likely have an independent engineering firm do the structural analysis next time.

Recent Review: I was able to make the appointment over e-mail, a service that I wish more businesses would make available. (I really dislike waiting on the phone, listening to awful music.) Tom was prompt and didn't seem to be in a hurry at all. He showed us everything he observed, and described what the underlying problem was, and how it should be fixed. He even gave us the name of an independent structural engineer who could come out and verify his observations.

Recent Review: I called the office and left a message. My call was returned by Robin. I told her what I wanted and she spent a long time on the phone  telling me about foundations, and Frank Comer's (the engineer) background and qualifications.  We set an appointment and she emailed me a confirmation along with a resume of Frank's qualifications.  It was at this point that I realized that Robin was Frank's wife, which explained the unusually long conversation with the glowing report  from our first conversation. All of this was handled very promptly. Frank arrived at the appointed time and did a walk through of my whole house inside and outside, listening to my concerns and questions and making comments  and suggestions as we went. He did not do any measurements.   We agreed that I would pay for a detailed report, but one without drawings.  He shared his opinions with me about what might need to be done as well as options.  I was satisfied with his visit. He expected payment at the time he was there, but before I had received his report. He said I should receive his written report within a week, and if I didn't  I should call him.  Everything up until this point had been fine, but my frustrations began here.   The week passed and I eventually called/emailed him and got a message back that he had been in court and was behind, but he would get right on it.  Time continued to pass and I made another contact and this time he told me he hadn't done the report because his son had  emergency surgery .  Again more promises that he would get the report done.  After I contacted him again I received the report- three weeks after the initial appointment.   There wasn't a hurry, but he shouldn't have told me I would have the report within a week. After reviewing the written report, I was disappointed.  I found the information to be disjointed and somewhat confusing and mostly filled with general engineer's lingo  clearly written into every report, and lots of text absolving the engineering firm from any liability.  I had some questions about the report so  tried to contact Frank via both his personal cell and email and the company phone and email.  I made multiple attempts with no response. Frank did  finally contact me, but was "in the field" and didn't have my report in front of him. I felt as if I was bothering him with my questions to clarify the report, and felt brushed off. I went ahead and contacted several foundation companies  and provided each of them with his report in advance. Of the three companies I had, two of them said they found the report to be disjointed compared to the engineers reports they usually had.  I decided to go ahead with some of the work Frank had recommended. The company I chose to do the work had a question about one part of Franks' report and contacted him, but the call was never returned. I also had called Frank Comer's office to let them know a foundation company would be in touch, and they had my OK to speak with them. I can't say  there was a problem with the quality of the engineer's examination of my home or even the recommendations, but I was definitely disappointed in the report I received and the lack of customer service that was provided after they had my money. This seemed to be a case where they were easy to reach when they were going to get my business, but very unresponsive after they had my business. I

I called and he didn't come out, but he gave me so much information over the phone. He told me how much it would be, about $315.00. He said the way the weather had been and being familiar with the ground in this area, that it would be wasting my money to come out now. He said he if he waited until Spring, we would have some moisture and that would change some of the problems we were having; if he looked at it then, it would probably be much different than it is now and we would probably have to spend less money. I was very pleased with him being so honest about it. He told me how to water to help restore the moisture to the soil; what strength to run the water and how long in one place. Also, for the one spot where the basement was leaking, he told me how to take care of it. I was just very pleased with him because he could have easily come out and done the inspection even though it would have been better to wait and I wouldn't have known the difference. The person I talked to was Ed Hutson. When Spring comes, I will be having him out to do the structural survey to know exactly what has to be done.

They basically came out and told me they couldn't help me and charged me their normal fee for doing it. They charged me $350 which is their normal rate. To be fair they came out and talked to me but they basically told me that they couldn't assist me that it wasn't safe what I was asking for.  They were saying that they needed somebody else to come up with some amount of it and then they could say they agreed or did not agree.

We knew we had some foundation issues and started with getting estimates from two foundation companies before we called Dennis. The estimates were from $20,000 for 11 piers to $5500 for 4 piers. Who was right? I had a couple of friends tell me bite the bullet and find a structural engineer to get a non bias opinion. I looked on Angie's List to find a structural engineer. Dennis reviews were good so we had him out. Dennis was on time. Professional and very informative. He spent around three hours inspecting and giving us his option on repairing foundation damage. Dennis recommended 8 piers and gave us a general idea of what to expect to pay for the repairs. He included a structural drawing of the damage and also a recommended drainage drawing for the exterior. We had two other companies come out for estimates. One was for $8700 and the other was $9700 which was in line with what Dennis had told us repairs would cost. Do your homework before you call anyone! That way you have some idea who's blowing smoke! Dennis helped clear the smoke. Dennis was great would recommend him or use him again.

We were on a strict deadline. We were refinancing our house and the VA required a termite inspection. The inspection indicated there was old termite damage to the rafters under our front porch. By the time we were notified that the VA wanted a structural engineer to inspect the damage, we were only days away from closing. The folks at Norton and Schmidt were really nice and worked hard to get someone out in time to meet our deadline. Note only did they get someone out, we got our report that same day. All in time for our deadline. The closing remained on schedule.

Barney was right on time, we were given a 1 hour window and he showed up right at the start.  He did a thorough walkthrough of the basement looking from floor to ceiling on each wall.  He explained what exactly was happening to the house, likely causes, and told us the severity of the crack and that it was not yet bad enough to require a full excavation around the foundation.  He explained which cracks require attention and which do not, he even suggested some places to find good, inexpensive paint for after we have the work done since concrete sucks up paint so fast.  And most of all, he humored all of my father's questions that he asked even after Barney had already explained it before.  He gave us a detailed description of the work that needs to be done, including specific spacing and size requirements, and will email us a written plan for us to use with foundation companies.
